View Full Version : Defi Like Gauge's
hey there. just a few questions to help me out please .
installed the controller II today running the power off of my stereo loom but was unsure about the white cable on the controller. i put it to the light on the ciggy lighter but the turbo gauge and controller only light up when the lights are on.
they all work just not lighting up unless the lights are on so im sure ive put that on wrong. what cable should i put it to?
also for the turbo gauge, where do i T it into on the vacum line as i couldn't make it out in the instructions. dam jap instructions?
also how is the best place to get the cable into the car from the sensor in the engine bay?
final question. how do you get the cable from the back of the controller to the a pillar? i have it mounted under the stering wheel so not to far to go i pressume?
i look like a right fool that knows nout about cars by this post muchous help appricato:sxoc:
can anyone help me want to get in in this afternoon :)

If you want them to light up all the time connect it to a ignition feed same as the main power. Do they need to be lit up all the time?

Use the hose that goes to the dump valve, should be fine

There is a small grommet just above the peddles, failing that there is a massive grommet in the drivers side inner wing

Just run the cable with the existing loom to above the fuse box and you can tuck it up behind the dash board. The a pillar trim just pulls off to make it easier

:)
thanks. well becuase their defi link the gauge is black and cant be seen unless it lights up lol.
in which case, you need a permanent/ignition live to the illumination feed. :)
should i just put it onto the same one as the main power. the stereo live

Can't see why they would need an illumination live in that case :)
IIRC they dim slightly when they see 12v on the illimunation live, so they don't blind you at night :)

yea thats what i mean they dim at night like they do with your stereo. i just dont know what cable it is that they go on. i might look in my stereo manual and see if it tells me which is the illumination live
Take it from the fag lighter dude.
You'll need a multimeter (if you haven't got one, buy one - they can be had for less than a fiver and are so, so useful).
Set teh multimeter to DC (probably)20v
Connect the black probe to an earth (anywhere on the chassis of the car) Then look at the three wires going to the fag lighter.
With the lights on, touch each terminal in turn with the red probe. if you find a live one, turn the lights off, and see if it's still live. If it's not, that's your lighting live :) (the ignition may need to be on for this)
If it's on all the time while the ignitions on, that's your ignition live.
When you have found the lighting live, tap into it - you can realisitically do this one of two ways: a solder connection (strip back a bit of the wire and solder on another bit to connect to the gauge)
or a scotch lock/IDC - you can get these in Maplin and halfords, and let you piggyback on to wires. These aren't as secure, but are a lot simpler to use.

One will be earth.

thats whats its on at the moment mate.
however when i turn out the lights the lights on the boost gauge go out.
becuase they are defi gauges they cause me not to be able to see them as there the black face ones. im thinking off putting it on the ignition live aswell as the main power so that it it stays light up when the lights on the car are off.
i havent actually got the sensor wired in yet to a vacum hose so i dont know if the controller 2 goes into a sleep mode and the guage doesnt light up becuase it has nothing to display. does anyone have defi link black faces?
