View Full Version : Anyone ever had trouble with malaria tablets?

I only ask cause I'm thinking getting malaria might be a more attractive option than taking these for the next seven weeks. I'm dosed up on Chloroquine and Proguanil and am experiencing some pretty severe side effects.
Has anyone had this problem and if so was your quack any more useful than mine? ("those are the side effects. Yes")
Anyone tried any other antimalarials that'd be suitable for India

Think the side effects affect some people worse than others. I'm sure there must be different types you could try, though they may all have the same effects. :( Still, its much better than getting malaria...

The problem is that i'm only four days into the course and am getting progressively worse - There's gonna be no point going if I'm going to be unable to leave my hotel room. One of my friends had malaria when he was in Africa with the UN - it recurs about once a year and isn't pleasant but if I'm careful...

Yup I think it was just the preventative measures.
I'll endeavour to find out for sure.
Gaz,
Ask to see a different doctor, mate.

The side effects list on my tablets (I've never bothered reading them before) is so fecking drastic I don't think i'd even have let them in the house if I read it first!!! It contains something about severe hair loss, along with psoriasis, respitory problems, retinal problems, trachea swelling and the softening of bone marrow!
Probably was the tablets that made her lose her hair. I'm just glad I'm not as bad as that.

her was a him, but yeah I'm pretty sure it was the tablets though I don't know what kind they were either.
Oh it's my missus' boss, not my missus, she'd not be my missus anymore if she were baldilocks. :D:D

Its all hes got, bravado is ;) :D
Mate of mine went to Tanzania a while back - came back having had a lovely time etc. etc. :)
3-4 months after he came back, got rushed to hospital with acute malaria - was in 4 2 weeks, touch and go at one point, but eventually pulled through - I saw him just after hed come out and he was literally a shadow of the bloke he was.
Obviously me an me mates helped his recovery with "sucked off by an insect" jokes and shouting "Malaria" at him everywhere, but you might not be so lucky!! ;)
Apparently its not too much of a problem if you get it out there - its only when you come back here to Doctors that dont see it often you're in trouble ...........
