View Full Version : My new daily driver - RB goodness inside
As some of you may have read i have recently brought Mitch's Stagea that he had for sale :D
These are a few pics from the for sale thread

Its a 1996 RS FOUR which as you can see has the RB25DET from a gts-t (iirc) thats pumping out around 230-240bhp depending on who you listen to.
This thing is as clean as any used car i have ever seen, the sills are spotless as is the rest of the underside of the car.
These are a few pics of the worst points

Unfortunately the mods started before i had even got the car home :wack:
I got hold of a couple of things off the options list - a load area cover and a dog net. On top of this literally 10 mins ago i had these dropped off, they have 2 good Bridgestones and 2 fubar'd Falken FK451's (been a long time since i have seen any of these) all for £285 delivered :D
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c100/califunky/NewWheels002.jpg
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c100/califunky/NewWheels001-1.jpg
As this is going to be my daily driver i dont have to much planned but there are plans - lowering springs, exhaust, filter, fuel pump, plugs, decat, boost controller, some pimp rims (when these are dead), i'd like to see 300bhp which shouldnt take much at all really.

I was rather tempted by this Stagea myself but means i would have got to have sold the S14
Nice car MEL! Welcome to RB
I was rather tempted by this Stagea myself but means i would have got to have sold the S14
Thankfully/luckily i am now in a position to be able to run this and keep my beemer project running too. Economy wise i managed 160ish miles home from Mitch's on 1/2 tank (about £25) which will be ok
Nice car MEL! Welcome to RB
Loving the torque :D
And the way it gets up and goes for a big car really surprised me
I really like this car, if I hadn't already got a new car on a boat I probably would've bought it.
Only real problem is the seats. The seats look like an old granny's wallpaper

Agree but they are comfortable enough to keep them for sitting in traffic jams :)

Are you going to get a seat cover made of little wooden balls? ;)
Sorry, I'll stop taking the p1ss now.
Edit: Would be worth it if you wanted to build a sleeper though.

Ta, needs a bloody good clean, if it stays dry tomorrow that might be the plan.
The first mods
I ordered these before i had even picked the car up - looad cover and dog/safety net
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c100/califunky/NewWheels006.jpg
Next i brought myself a decent set of R33 GTR rims, today i went anf got 2 of the tyres changed and them fitted

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c100/califunky/NewWheels008.jpg
Much better i think. I have my eye on a well priced set of Sustech Pro coilies to sort out the tractor like ride height :D
When you taking it off road :D
wheels look good, just get it lowered

i was thinking the same thing. not bad looking though. looks kind of volvoesque from the side view.

I've thought about it - thera are a couple of fields opposite the house with level access from the road, its been hard not to go and be a proper hooligan before they fill them with useless food stuffs
Lowering is hign on the agenda  as is a trip to Hayward and Scott seeing as they are only round the corner :D

I was tempted as well and I'll have one at some point but i'd have to make some major changes if and when I get one lol, manual and rear drive only would be my plans :D
This will look really cool once its decked. Good choce on the skyline wheels.
Time to start saving up for an R34 front end conversion? :p

I would love to do that but the kits are extortionately expensive and i cant seem to find any evidence to suggest that the makers are in business any more or not.
I like this kit - gtr oc chairmans ride

I love these with an R34 front.
I do like the Massa r34 front end conversions but iirc they cost about £3500 plus shipping when they were being produced - i dont think they are now.

I think it would look pretty cool with an R32 Gtr front
Cant see it myself, the lines around the wings would be all wrong imo
just quickly calculated my mpg for the first full tank of driving
i filled up with 59litres (12.97 gallons) of V Power @ £4.134155744 gallon (£53.62 total)
I got 390km (242.35m) from the tank
That all equates to a cost of £0.221250258 per miles which = 18.68542791mpg :yikes: need to calm the action on the loud pedal a little i think.

I bet you're not feeling at all smug buying a 4wd car just before all that snow landed. Subscribing as I'm sure oneof these would top my list of cars to buy if my commute were to reduce.

I'd be thinking about an LPG conversion before anything else :wack:
They wont fit, the panels are all custome made :)
I still think any decent bodyshop could work the magic required if you supplied R34 wings, lights, bonnet and bumper
Would prob work out cheaper than the £3.5k that company used to charge for the kit too depending on how cheap you could get the panels. Would look awesome... ;)

Unless your lucky - you'l pay around a grand just for the R34 headlights alone! The whole lot for £3.5k will be pushing it!

Now that REALLY is a Skyline tax :D I like it as it is, there will be far more people who don't know what it is without the R34 front end.
If it were mine it wouldn't get a kit either but then it would get a towbar!!
How about the autec kit? Needs bigger wheels than these or lowered suspension though...

Love the autech kit, nice and simple
Yeh I like that too - decent 18" wheels with a decent offset and that will be shwwwweeet

Those wheels look smaller than mine but i assume they are the same size - they look a little lost :)

Its getting even slipperyier soon - in a couple of weeks i will be fitting some coily goodness and a shiny new front pipe too, just need to sort a rear section for the exhaust :D
By the way, your car sounded like a wet fart pulling away fron the tolls last night :p
Went out in this last night and its awesome, nice smooth ride and pulls really well.

It sounded worse on the way home :wack:
Hoping to find blown tubby gaskets when I investigate tomorrow, and a new decent exhaust will be on the cards soon too as the current one isn't great and way too loud/boomy at mway speeds :whip:
Can't believe I didn't notice you at the tolls either, clearly losing it in my old age!
We honked, if you had managed to stop the wife from nagging for long enough you might have heard us :wack:

Slippery slope? No, it's a straight drop down Mel, get used to it. My Skyline was to stay standard according to Bubble.... it's ended up with 406BHP. :D

I am guessing that due to the skankyness of the old filter i was down on performance a little. The new intake kit has perked things up a treat. Feels more responsive on the throttle, eager to pull a little quicker and it makes a lovely noise too :smitten:
Glad it's made an improvement mate
I reckon it's more down to my professional licking skills than the filter though :D
Cheers for your help today mate, really appreciated it. My back is proper fooked though :wack:

Parked up on a mates drive sunday and noticed the passenger wheel was tucked into the arch a little further than normal due to a bump. Jumped back in to see if the tyre was scrubbing on lock and it wasnt - obviously i couldnt see if there was scrubbing while out on the move but i like the way it looks and think i mat have to lower it a little this weekend :D

Never :wack:
No, its not wound down yet as i have had to drop it back into the garage - 4 of the 6 mani studs were snapped so they have all now been replaced. Picking it up tomorrow. If i get time between seeing my old man and getting absolutely paraletic i might get round to finishing my install and dropping the b1tch a bit further :D
It seems the braided lines fitted when the gtr brake set up was fitted wasnt secured and has been hanging down and getting pinched when turning. The drivers side line finally wore through and popped and burst this afternoon, luckily just as i was parking up but it has obviously left me with no brakes :(
Now i have got to order a new set of braided lines and get it done as quickly as possible because i currently cant get to work :annoyed:

good prject i like, refreshing to see something different, i was contemplating selling my s13 and getting one of these for the dog lol! whats the insurance like? being an import? really want one now lol
the only stickers going on this are the stagea oc stickers i have
the fusions sound really rich and full, not too bass or treble heavy. The 6x9s havent been connected yet - ran out of daylight but hopefully tonight
Insurance isnt too bad tbh, am paying about £700 fully comp 0ncb 2000 business miles sdp & c

that's not too bad. Are imports automatically group 20?

Dont know. A lot of insurers that specialise in this sort of thing are asking for previous experience of a car/power level similar to what you are trying to insure. My stage 1 14a was an equivalent power level. Flux dont mirror other policies ncb but they have based the policy on the 7yrs nc built up previously and currently on my beemer iirc
only 2000miles a year? no wonder its cheap lol, how old are you?

I'm starting to get drawn towards this barge, was looking good when I was following it from a few cars back when we left the curry night
from that pic of it parked on the bump, i.e how low you're gonna take it, the camber of the wheel looks to have changed slightly, so i imagine when you do slam it, it'll have some serious camber either just on the front, or both front and rear. maybe look into some camber bolts/camber arms if you are going to take it down, thats if it doesnt already have the ability to adjust that stuff as standard. if the tanabe's dont have camber adjustment then you should be able to bolt on some normal camber-adjustable top mounts from any other manufacturer, should be some cheap ones on ebay.
other than that, it looks tidy mate. im seriously considering getting myself a skyline, probably an r32 or r33 gtr.
awesome rims, looks good on the barge would look even better slammed:D

Hopefully the whiteline arb's i ordered will be here early July, i have some guttering to go on, a gizzmo boost controller to fit and an earthing kit on its way too :D
Gizzmo is now fitted and the setup is almost right, a couple more attempts to sort the duty and gain settings and it will be bang on. Bossting at .75bar with the scramble being set to .85 :D
Been fiddling with the Gizzmo and have turned off the scramble feature and am now just running 0.83bar
My adjustable Whiteline arb's finally arrived in the country the friday of the Weekender which was a pain as i was hoping that seeing as i had paid for them about 9 weeks earlier they would have been fitted by then.
To be fitted
Whiteline ARB's
R33 GTR fuel pump
Dayz sideskirts
Apexi SAFC II
Dal will be wiring in the SAFC and fitting the arb's for me as tbh seeing the trouble Del had with his i cant be arsed. Gonna drop the pump in while i am there seeing as its a 20min job and hopefully collar Pablo to help me sort the skirts.
Gearbox is fooked
Slipping like a cnut. Its not picking up speed :annoyed:
Put new atf fluid in last weekend, checked the levels - fine. Got home, checked the levels - fine. Checked the levels during the week and still fine but it had started slipping and it got worse. Driving home tonight and i have nothing. Checked the fluid again (still reads fine) and put anoth litre of atf fluid and its still slipping

Isn't it the same RE4R01A as in the 200? Should say on the VIN plate?
Just need to swap the bellhousing.

Re4r01b
Sitting here at the side of the m25 waiting recovery - managed to get it going enough to head to a stagea specialist before it well and truly shat itself.
Good news is i will be trailered to his garage and he has a spare box :)
So you should have it going again by the end of the day?
doubt it, still at the side of the road - gonna take 1.5hrs to get to the garage from when i get picked up and i have no idea if he has the spare box to hand
Good luck mate, any update?

Can you do me a favour and ask him what the difference is between the re4r01b and re4r01a and if they are interchangeable? ;)
I have an re4r01a in my Cefiro and am looking for possible upgrades.
I will hopefully have my car back tonight with a working box, bad news is that the front bushes are fooked so thats something else to sort out
Lum - i will ask
Have you looked here - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Cefiros-4-Door-Sedans-Ta-f83.html
I have my car back :D
Gearbox has been replaced, gearbox and diff fluids have been replaced. Front cv boots changed and my boost controller plumbed in correctly so its not working off the actuator and it feels amazing.
Gearbox feels a lot tighter than the old one - revs drop quicker on gear change - they dont hang, gear change is much slicker and feels quicker.
Big :notworthy:notworthy:notworthy to Pablo for driving all the way back from Bournemouth to pick me up in Wanstead (where i work) and then drive me all the way to Ninfield (near Battle) to pick up my car
Thanks bud
No Problem matey.....although I do feel a bit knackered today :)
Glad everything is working well now
Good news. :)
Did you ask him about the gearbox differences? ;)
I tthink we were to worn out to remember to ask :wack:
Mel may know a bit more though
Completely forgot to ask, sorry Lum :(
On the plus side i have some new wheels winging there way to me so i can refurb my enkeis, trouble is these will need a refurb first  :wack:
There will be some splitting involved, some sanding, plenty of painting and maybe some polishing - havent really decided yet. Photoshoppers will be called on to help me decide
new wheels are here - less than 24hrs after the courier being arranged in scotland :D

ooh, deep pan pizza!
Should look good
Need rid of those Baloooooon tires. Looking good Mel :D
Tyres are bald as fook, will swap my current tyres onto them when its time for the enkeis to be refurbed.
I did want to refurb these but they are in really good condition and i dont want to go loosing the CV PRO logo on the rim. Maybe just a polish and paint the centres.
Got my new wheels fitted yesterday. Got the tyres swapped over from the enkeis on to these so still 235/45 allround.

Nooo, i was interested in how this was going to turn out! Whats next Mel?
I know, i feel kinda sick atm :hurl:
The increased mileage everyday, and more driving coming my way with the other half being pregnant doesnt really make it a viable option anymore. I could afford to run it but have nothing left over for mini mel at the end of the month.
I dont really know whats next, hopefully s-body but who knows.

S-Body is a tempting one eh! Back to what you know! I am keeping an sx when I have a lil un, itll just have to be caged subtly to give some extra protection!
