hey thanks to phoenix managed to get the clutch in and box on relativly quickly. Started the car up and i couldn't get the car into gear and the clutch pedal feels like piss even after bleeding it for ages. It would go into gear fine when the engine was off.
After speaking to buffy and the guy i bought the clutch off i was guessing that the release bearing carrier wasn't long enough so as a temporary fix, phoenix welded a nut onto the slave cylinder rod and hey presto the clutch will engage all gears when the enginge ir running and thecar drives fine
with one exception
the clutch slips as soon as you go over 0.3 of a bar of boost what ever gear your in. Even if i drive the car slowly if slips like a bitch the faster you go.
now i have started to hear a noise coming from the gearbox, as if 2 pieces of metal are hitting each other for a second like (ting ting) usually when i go over bumps or change gear.
any ideas guys?
FUBAR. If you like I can pop over one night this week and we can have a look. have you got the box back out yet?

Its probably going to be related to the the release bearing/carrier.
I would get the bearing and carrier sorted before making any diagnosis of the box.
That should sort your slipping issue out too.
He's coming over tommorow so I can have a look. Bloody datsuns!

Hmm didn't realise they needed a different bearing carrier!
The one in mine is totally different to the stock item (came via Sumo power) but mine is a twin plate HKS jobbie.
Well the catalogue gives the acceptable tolerance for the bearing carrier, ( I'm a dealer now ), and it's between 24 and 26 mm from the back of the fork mounts to the top of the seat. Also I believe the single plate ones use a non 200 Nissan bearing.
I'm trying to look up the part number. It's 30502-14601. If anyone can shed any light on that one I'd appreciate it.

My giken triple uses a diffent carrier, and depending on how many plates etc (thickness of the clutch stack) you use a different carrier, they are all nissan parts though
The part number for the bearing that giken/ORC etc all use is 30502-14601, which is what you have listed, this is a Nissan part but isn't listed in the UK version of FAST.
This pdf lists the various carriers. (bottom left hand corner of the right hand page)

holy shit batman
i just realised i havent changed the carrier since i had the car. The car came with a orc single plate clutch. That clutch died after i had the car for about 3 - 4 months as the thrust bearing was pretty much through the clutch cover as all the fingers had a massive groove in. I heard a constant grinding noise but they told me that was normal for twin plates (but it wasn't a twin plate which i found out when i took it off)
I then replaced the clutch for a nismo one. Nismo clutch cover, nismo clutch plate and nismo flywheel. I tore the centre of the clutch plate away from the outer edge within a month and a half. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/psirus/03012009058.jpg
That same carrier is on the car now. Didn't realise until you just said jezz that the orc one requires a different carrier. So basically i don't know what carrier is on the car now.
That's probably the reason why i destroyed the nismo clutch (i heard a grinding noise when i fitted the nismo clutch but i looked on rhdjapan and they said it is a noisey clutch and the clutch was operating completely fine so i didn't think twice.

I can also remove the "customisation" to your slave cylinder arm at the same time :wack:

it's quite hard to tell but from memory the orc carrier looks like mine as i had the orc 309 series single plate clutch on there previously.
ok buddy, just give me a day or two to rest my hand up. strained my wrist pretty well having the gear box being held up by it :wack:

Spoken to exedy and they said the clutch i have used the oem carrier and bearing. So i must not have the right carrier/bearing.
Jim the bearing i need is
30502-45P00 - this should be the stock one. If for defo it is the carrier/bearing, nissan direct got back to me and quoted me £28 for the carrier and £21.50 for the release bearing :) just have to find out if it is

Took the car around to jim last nyt and it has to be the release bearing and carrier. Will give them a buzz if when i put it back together it's still not working. Thanmks for the advice tho mate
