Been reading up about BTCC classes after that piece on Top Gear. These guys have put together a register of the cars built to Super Touring reg and are recording what they are up to.
I was amazed at how few over the 10+ years the regs were in place were built! I always imagined that if they crashed there were loads of chassis lined up ready to take its place.
Rose tinted view of BTCC I guess.

Thats makes for an interesting read. My bro and I followed the BTCC from the late 80's to mid 90's around the country and a lot of those motors hold a lot of good memories.

I guess it takes a lot to write off a chassis, so a lot of cut and shuts about :)

I was watching a programme abut WRC and how very few cars ever get written off. IIRC Solbergs big crash in Germany (barrel rolling over a hinkelstein) didn't total the car!!! The Focus that injured Gi Gi was totalled due to the chassis resembling a banana.
