Im booked, a mates booking with his S14a. SM will probably be taking his S13.

Its a big open safe venue and will be a laugh irrespective of conditions :)

Any more for any more? You can all come and kick my ass in my low powered auto S14 :wack:

Last time I went to Elvington they were having noise issues and a 98db limit was in force...which was too low for alot of guys....this is not very loud at all:(

do i need a licence? i dont have one unfortunatly but i can drive/drift pretty safely..

Would drifting/ accidental oversteer be allowed or be flagged?

Dammit if i had money/tyres/brake pads to burn i'd be there! I've been wanting to try an airfield day as opposed to a full on circuit for a while as i've never been on a trackday before!

it'll be a trackday, not a drift day:) if you take the piss you'll be spotted. i think the t+cs also say you need to be licenced to drive the car.

bren
18-12-2008, 11:50
We wont have it back in time :( The boat docks on Christmas Eve but I dont think we will see the car until around the 5th at the earliest. The cars also booked in to work at the Autosport show on the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th of Jauary doing demos in the main stadium so I cant break it playing at Elvington a few days before.

Having said that I cant see me leaving it behind for one minute if its actually here! :D

Ah, noise, that will be a problem :(

PGD

*Crosses fingers and hope the boat gets a shift on :D*

Noise, didnt think it was that noisy... In comparison to the other Time Attack cars at Donny anyway

bren
18-12-2008, 12:43
Its load at idle so when they do the static DB test it will get laughed off the track. A shame as, like you say, its not noisy once its out running :(

Took it too a repair shop, they tested it and it was fine. Put it back on the car and it worked for 10mins and died again:cry:

Not sure where I can get a new second hand one. If anyone has one lying around and would post it before the 3rd? :)

24-12-2008, 15:41
£50 delivered for the alternator. Got one off a 55k mile car that we have just broken. We are about to finish work for Christmas but I can run down to the Post Office with it for you. Not sure when they reopen, Monday I suppose. Ill get one of the lads to pack it now and will take it with me in case you want it.

Give us a ring if youre interested, Ill pm you my mobile number.

Yeah looks like only 2 more places left, it's filled up fast  Doesn't look like I'll be doing it either, waiting on gear linkages to turn up as there's no way I'm doing it with the gearchange I have now, I'll end up destroying the gearbox :wack:

No doesnt look like I'll be on track either, as the old rear (porterfield) pad fell apart yesterday, then a caliper hanger bolt sheared in two places and still needs replacing or tapping out

I'll be there dropping subtle passenger ride hints and spectating though :D

I need a standard turbo, fast :(
If anyone knows of one available this week, please let me know.

Yesterday swapped both rear struts for the S15 gear I've had for ages. Both of my rear dampers were leaking, which partly explains some wayward handling I've had.
Parcel due today with new brake discs, as all of mine are original to the 150k mile car  and very thin.

On my s14a im running a 3" exhaust from turbo back with an elbow. I have a de-cat silencer from apex and a cat back with one rear silencer.
Am I likely to be below the 98db limit?

If not can I run a bar of boost with the exhaust bung in?

Cheers

thats what im running mate, just with a scorpion de-cat silencer instead, last time i was there i was at the 98db without the silencer and was more than ok with the silencer, you should be fine.

put my silencer back in test and cant believe how much quieter it is.

I'm still here

The tyre pile has been excavated, so I have plenty of rubber.

There was no paperwork to suggest the discs had ever been changed before I got the car, but I've done 80k miles on them. And, failed to change them today, though I have the new ones now.
I have 19mm and 23mm sockets, but not the 21mm? the front calipers seem to be attached with.

Still on smokey turbo too, and an oil change this morning seems to have doubled the smoke :( so tomorrow will be a 'how long will it last' day for me .

I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Best track day eva.

The early ice made things interesting for sure.

I even managed to get my front passenger side tyre down to the cord - woohoo. Makes a difference from track days of old where I went home with more rubber than I arrived with. :D eh Kev?

Thanks to zzzyyyyyxxxyyyy for the drive of your car. The handling and brakes were soooo much better than mine. I can't believe how much the difference was. Speak to you soon about the agx/eibachs - can't wait.

I think I've got some serious pad transfer - my car is juddering dreadfully under braking now, but It will have to get a bit warmer before I start messing with the car.

big hi to everyone else - hope the track monster car gets sorted - whatever the problem is/was.

Was a good day even though i was only spectating, albeit a tad chilly.

It was also good to see Richards SX(craving impact) finally out on the track for the 1st time after seeing it over the past year in his garage slowly fixing together piece by piece. He has some fiddling to do with the suspension i suspect as the 888's were burning rubber on the body:eek:

Excellent day

Unless it's going to blow up tomorrow, a good old fashioned thrashing blew the cobwebs out of my car and done it some good. There was no sign of billowing smoke from the turbo, and it was boosting earlier than it was last week too

Killing the rear pads so quick was a surprise as I usually melt the fronts first, though the front were smoking a little too :o Thanks to Apex Mike for the loan of the caliper winder, and the chap (sorry, I didn't ask who you were) who held the stiff caliper still while I wound it. Caliper refurb required now before they seize any more.

Kudos to the Apex Catering Company. Coffee and Bacon Sarnies works for me

Still came home with tread on the tyres, so I wasn't trying hard enough.

Because my steering wheel had worn through completely, leaving an uncomfortable sharp edge, I invested last week in a classy steering wheel cover, something similar to this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-TRANSIT-VAN-BLACK-CHROME-TRIM-S-W-COVER_W0QQitemZ380083280472QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_C arsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item38008328047 2&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1299%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318

Bob spotted it straight away this morning, and I (quite rightly) told him I'd been unable to get it to slip, and it was a precision piece of engineering (or a £5 piece of tat from Lidl). I didn't notice until nearly home that the silver bits were now about 90degrees out from where they were this morning :D

Was great fun and good to see you guys :) Richards cars going to be awesome when its dialled in, Im hoping it will provide a good sparing base for our Tomei S14 so Ive got someone to play with when its first put together. We will be running the SR out of our V8 S14a to begin with using a GT2871 and around 350bhp so straight line performance should be near identical between the cars. The Tomei wont be installed until the chassis dialled in as its going to take a lot of donkey work to get the handling sorted and the little niggles ironed out.

You up for that Richard, we going to go and play later in the year? :)

Ive just booked at Elvington again, going in the Skyline this time. Its on Feb 14th, details here:

Sounds good to me Bren, although i think Elvington is a litle too bumpy and abrasive for my liking!
With all that travel my suspension was using, the front geometry must have been changing so much as its killed the insides of the 265 888's on the front in one day!!
I know it wont be as bad when the roll is sorted, but still.
Plus i dont think its worth doing much setup there as its so much different to propper circuits.

bren
04-01-2009, 17:11
Suits me, the Tomei S14 wont ever see an airfield  :) Im not damaging the paint and, as you say, its only good for very rough set up, its way too bumpy to relate to normal track work.

Our V8 S14 on Comfys was loads better suited to Elvington suspension wise than my mates car with 6/5s.

Elvington is great for getting to know your car on the limit

BUT

Yeah, not great for learning lines, and setting up cars, you certainly need a set of disposable tyres (to add to the learning your car on limit fun - really cheap ungrippy ones)

Ive got some good footage of Tim (Apexs competition winning race driver) and me playing. Tim was driving a mates Stage 1 S14a on T1Rs, I was in our stage 0.75 S14a auto but on rally slicks.

Its great to watch Tim driving, good to see a professional driver at work.

Im no slouch on track but only matched Tim because I was on slicks, would have been screwed on T1Rs.

Ill get the footage up asap.

was good to watch from the sidelines:thumbs: didn't realise there was such a power advantage, though it was prob negated by the autobox

Its ok for 1st and 2nd where you can get the car to do what you want to an extent but you cant hold 3rd so the bloody thing pops up and down between the top two gears mid corner :wack:

Saying that though it still did well against Rich with his 330 ponies! Owned:wack:

I have a suspicion though a lot of it was down to the driver.

i think it had everything to do with brens experience over my 2 track days haha. Its not what you drive its how you drive it.

Remember you said i was brakeing far too early and by the vid i see what you mean.

was you not on the rally slicks at this point also bren?? haha
