Hi Dave,
I noticed you were thinking of getting a stage 1 chip. In my opinion (everyone can chip in) I think you should:
1. set your bhp aim
2. set your budget
3. get real and set your bhp aim properly
Then, decide what parts you need and what order to fit them. In that way you might eventually need a stage 2 chip so a stage 1 would be a waste of money. You could look at my list of mods which is good for 255bhp but now my T25H stops me going further! So what do you want? 255bhp or 280+?

Also, sign up for Norris's catalog on this website: he lists the things you need for various bhp targets. Might be useful.

Pls feel free to comment!!!!

Mike

Agree with all you say.

I visited and requested Norris's Catalogue last summer in preparation for me beginning to look at mods.
It is a great way to get an idea of what you would need and what you expect to pay if buying things new.
I ended up buying 90% of parts via the board at a massive discount off the new prices.
My original BHP aim was around 225-230 anyway so everthing I have installed is near a damn it (It's my son who wants the BHP higher !!)

As Mike has said mate, u really need to think of what ur horsey power aim is.

To give u a general idea.
If ur @180-200 now.
£300 would see u reliably to 230 ish
£700 would see u to 250 ish
£1500 would see u beyond 280,
but thats just purely spent on the engine parts
Ud really have to sort out brakes and suspension, and decent tyres.
(says the guy with 280 and standard suspension, and cr@p tyres)

Once we know what ur aiming for we can advise u alot better of what to aim for.
TBH, most of what ND quote is sound advice, but some is a bit misleading imo, and of all the prices listed, half it then ur looking more realistic.

If you buy everything slowely and shop around you will pick up bargains. I've not spent that much and I should be around the 280BHP Heres the stuff I bought, most second hand

T28 - £160 with 2 month warrant & sold my T25 for £65
Apexi electronic boost controller - £100
SE upgraded fuel pump - £45
HD stage 2 chip - £110
Volvo FMIC - £47
Powerflow exhaust - £340

My car came with a pipercross filter and DV, so the total I have spent is £802

All is still not hooked up yet, just dont get enough time. I hate studying for exams!!

Mike,

Why dont you go for a T28. You should get an extra 30BHP out of one and you could sell your T25 for a good amount.

Interesting idea! I've spent long hours debating what to do next... The smoke is a bit worrying (perhaps rings?) so I think I'll stick with what I've got under the bonnet for a while as a T28 may force an engine rebuild! Do you know if pistons can be replaced from the sump or does the head have to come off?

Anyhow, a good T25H setup might be fun against a good T28? Mine pulls from lower rpm/less lag (I think), but you've got better top power? Which would win at Crail?

Top of my current list is:
- keep it clean/polished
- fix my a/c (thanks to Dunc for the parts)
- fit shift light (so I can get the edge on Kev)
- fit FMIC water spray (ditto)
- inertia computer 0-60 thingy
- bigger speakers

then perhaps:
- spot lights for the winter
- lowered
- black windows

What do you think? ;)

How are you getting on with your mota? And, more importantly, what happened to Dave?

I'd say get it lowered. Springs will set you back £100 the most.
If you need a hand fitting them I could always come up. I got spring clamps, which you will need.
The car will look well nice aswell

I got my SE fuel pump in. Need to do intercooler, chip and 16PSI of boost:D :D and a RR again

Have been away for a few days. Thanks to everyone for all the advice, its really appreciated. The most I've seen from an s13 is 280bhp so I reckon thats where I should be heading.I'll sign up for the catologue thingy and now keep my eyes open for a T28 going at a good price. If anybody hears of one then please drop me a line.
My next job just now is lowering the suspension. new springs are £90 and I can do it myself. Mike you wanna give me a hand it will give you practise for doing yours!!:D :D :D
Tonnie, I'm impressed by what you've got at the price, lok forward to seeing the final run on the RR

...oh yes, you might want to consider getting the springs fitted professionelly? My camber was out and my tyres were wearing badly on inside front edges. Had to get a camber adjusting bolts from Bren (Apex). So if i were to lower my car I'd go for a four wheel alignment especially as youve got nice wheels! Pre-facelift S13's have camber adjusting bolts already fitted, I believe.

Any other opinions?

Just whacked the boost up to 14PSI and the car is a rocket:D :D
Dont want to boot it too much without the chip in.
But its sooooooo rapid. Cant wait to take it to the RR now!!

Volvo intercooler will deffo be going in on Saturday or sunday.

fuel pump is in. I had a bitch of a time with it.

Snapped the connectors on it as i was trying to make the wholes bigger, so I could hook up the power and both snapped.
Went and bought a solderer and its now sorted. Its well loud aswell and a lot smaller than the original

Im a tad worried here.

hahaha! lack of faith kev;)

You know the metal bit where you connect the + & - connectors on the original. My fuel pump is smaller than the original and the hole on the connectors were aswell. Tried making it bigger by screwing in a srew but it snapped off. Hit it into place and got some soldering wire and soldered it back, only used a very small amount.
Did you get the ECU Kev
