View Full Version : insuring 2 cars
whats the cheapest way of insuring 2 cars,is there a policy for doing it,or do you have to insure the cars seperatly?
seperately as far as I know.
otherwise they could both get knicked and the company would have to pay out twice

What about simillar to richie style.
Have a limited 7,500 miles policy on your weekend driver, and a full time daily user, would that be cheaper?
If both car are going to be used full time, then I agree 2 seprate policy is probably best...insurance already thought of all the things the can do to screw you over. :(
I run two cars and had the same dilemma.
I ended up going through Greenlight and they are excellent.
They understand the limited mileage, weekend driver thing and insure accordingly.
I insure the Punto under my full NCB with the usual 'for use on business use' etc. gumph you'd get with a normal policy.
I also insure the 200 on a limited (6000 for me) mileage policy.
You end up with two policy documents but Greenlight level out the cost because they are both through them.
Example: When I wanted to insure both cars Direct Line were talking £1200-£1300, so were the other 'biggies' and some even refused to insure me!
Greenlight know you can't drive two cars at once and also appreciate that your 'weekend' car is a cherished item and therefore you are unlikely to drive like a knob all over the place.
The first year I was with them cost £850-ish (compare that to D/Line!).
If you don't go for Greenlight look in the back of Top Gear, I saw a company 'specialising' in 2-car insurance recently.

I use liverpool victoria for both my cars.
Got just myself on the 200 and myself and the (learner) g/f on the micra. They gave me an excellent quote for the 200 but the micra quote was a bit high once i put the g/f on it. Because i insured the micra as a second car with them i got a nice discount which brought the total cost below the best seperate quotes i'd had elsewhere.

I got mine through AXA. My 200 and the wifes 405 both using my full NCB. A few restrictions - eg. you have to be claim free for 3 years (or 4 maybe). Don't know how they'd view mods though as mine's bog standard.
