My mk2 Astra failed it's MOT this morning on account of scratches across the windscreen from dodgy wipers (not me though), rust near important bits, hole in other bits, corroded/pitted front->back brake lines and mis-alligned headlight. It's gonna cost something like £200 just to get the welding done, and then it needs a new screen and brake lines too :( . The MOT actually runs out in the middle of May, about 2 weeks before the tax and insurance. Is there any chance I could get my NCD 2 weeks early (I've never had any claims, been driving since jan '01 on full licence) so I could get an SX earlier :) ? I'm insured with Liverpool victoria atm, next one will prolly be a different company (1st-on-line possibly). My other option is to scrap it, but leave it insured so I get the NCD, not have a car for 2-3 weeks and get a new one when I go to my dad's in Maidstone.

Cheers

Just leave it sitting on your drive for a couple of weeks. The insurance people dont need to know its got no MOT.

If I scrapped it would I have to tell the insurance company? It'd only be for 2 weeks and it's not gonna get any claims if the cars in a scrapyard.

Tax doesn't matter, it runs out at the same time as the insurance.

It's your car you can do what you want with it. No need to tell the insurance you've scrapped it (assuming you can find someone willing to take it off your hands) as you're not making a claim. As far as the insurance is concerned you've still got a car. Perfectly legal.

One little plea though, if Tattons or whoever don't want to scrap it without you paying loads of dosh, please, please, please don't dump you car at the side of the road. There's enough of that in Stafford as it is. :( :( :(

Take it to Stoke instead:D

Lol :D :D

I wouldn't dump it, thats just plain wrong. Anyone know if the fire service might want it to practice setting alight/putting out/chopping up? Might be a way to get rid of it cheap.
