Simple Yes or No - with a 'Yes, but as it's an M it is allowed some slack - just to appease those who don't like a Yes or No' option!.

Excellent third option mate:

Points in question:
A) Tiff "The Don" Needell described it as the best handling road car hed ever driven
B) The aformentioned also said it was the best "sideways" chariot he knew of
C) It looks like a poofs motor
D) My slightly effete mate is going to buy one
E) The name can only be said while sounding camp. Go on - repeat the mantra "Emmm cooo-pay. Oooh matron. Hello boys" :D

AFAIK it looks exactly like a Z3 but with an M badge on the back. I went for "yes - hairdressers car" (second option).

Tiff must have been off his tits when he said that then!

They are sooooooo dodgy on the limit. I wouldn't go near one.

Unless I was a hairdresser with a small pen*s of course!

Errr....

Seems as 1) Tiff is a far better driver with more experience of motor vehicles than everyone put together on here 2) I've driven both an M Coupe, and the respected era M3 (the M-coupe handles far better as is VERY ridgid)

I'd say the Coupe is VERY good on the limit!!!

Ooohhhhh  Excuse me if anyone but Tiff Needle is allowed an opinion

There are a plenty of people who don't rate it handling wise, especially on the limit (mid engined + short wheelbased doesn't help).

Ripper
17-04-2003, 09:43
Me to start with - I've never been able to get one to handle to my satisfaction! ;)

That may or may not be so. However, how much skill does it take to throw a car sideways on a wet airstrip when you've got someone to edit out your mistake

Also. though I probably agree that he is a good driver, he is without doubt a class A T I T and I wouln't treat his verdicts as anymore gospel than Clarkson (who at least is funny).

Just MHO :D :D :D :D :D :D

Shock, Horror!

Ripper (partially ;) ) disagrees with JB!

I rate Tiff and I think Clarkson is VERY funny.

Sorry!:p

I agree that Clarkson is very funny. But to me tiff comes across as a bit of a big headed nob. Not my type, sorry :p

Well he was good enough to run two F1 Grandprix in 1980:

Grand Prix of Belgium, 04/05/1980
Grand Prix of Monte Carlo, 18/05/1980

Then he went on to do sports car racing and a the most apt part of his racing life (Racing in the home land of our cars(:

"1987-'88 Tiff was back in Japan driving for the TOM'S Toyota team"

And probably the hardest thing hes ever driven:

"Mainly driving Lister Storms in the British series in 1998, he scored two wins at Snetterton and in the October 4 meet at Silverstone. Tiff also was invited to drive a Nissan Primera for Ray Mallock in the BTCC race at Brands Hatch in August."

So if hes a shit driver, why are none of us driving any of these vehicles or even competing in proffesional motorsport?

:D

(and these are just snippets from his motorsport life).

Ripper
17-04-2003, 10:29
I almost competed in professional motorsport: I once bet a guy my 200 would beat his 2.5 V*ctra over any distance he chose.

He changed his mind the next day when he (no doubt a BIG shock) found out that there ARE cars quicker than V6 V*ctras!!!!

If we had have gone ahead with the original arrangement this would, surely, have been classed as 'professional motorsport'. ;)

Two things:

Tiff Needell WON LE MANS FFS!!!! Clarkson also said of him "He can drive a car flat out round a racetrack, come down the home straight, pull up the handbrake and leave the car 2 feet in front of a camera (vocal gearchange), with the logos on the tyres pointing the right way" :)
Also - M3 Roadster - mid engined?? News to me
If you want to slag FR cars, go ahead ............ ;) :D

Vez
17-04-2003, 12:04
Who said it was mid engined.....LMAO, now let me check... :D

No one apparently!

Ripper
17-04-2003, 12:19
It is mid-engined. ;)

There - I said it! :p

Holy sh*t! I didn't realise this was the Tiff Needle appreciation society!

When did I or anyone else call him a sh*t driver?!

I really don't know why people are getting all defensive at the audacity of anyone to actually question any of Tiffs' opinions!!
How presumptious of me to think that anyone's opinions count for anything when compared to the mighty Mr Needle!!

How dare I!  (...slaps myself round the face for being so insolent)

As for the M coupe being mid-engined, perhaps you should read my quote again.
In case I was unclear, let me paraphrase for you:

If a car is 'mid-engined' or 'short wheelbased', both of these attributes will negatively affect its on the limit handling.

The M coupe is obviously not mid-engined but does have a very short wheelbase.

I just didn't want to make out that only short wheelbases contribute to dodgy on the limit handling, because I knew some people would get upset.

Disingenuous ;) Can't blame whoever it was for getting t'wrong end of t'stick :)

M Coupe? I'd rather have an M3. But I wouldn't say no to a go in one, though :)

(All parties should note that Vez has been shifted around at work - after so long successfully running the Ultima PR account, he's now shifted his attentions to the personal publicity of a certain Mr. Needell... :p ;) :D
