Does anyone know of any disused airfields / expanses of concrete in Norfolk that can be used for a bit of drift practice?
Anywhere near public roads / estates is a total no go.
Cheers,
Chris
dunno how far into norfolk you are but theres rattlestden air feild, not many people know about it as its used once a month for people with gliders, its about 100 meters wide and about 2 MILES long and in the middle of know where, i love that place i didnt wana leave, thes completly flat, its been re surfaced before it was decomissioned and has no pot holes!, unlike eye air feild which sucks ass

Sounds interesting....how did you get on it? Were you with the glider lot?
EDIT: Found a website for the gliding club here: http://www.ratair.org.uk/page.php?2
I wonder.....

I think its owned privately by the glider club. they may rent it out for the day or something. I might give them a bell if I get round to it

Norfolk Arena at Kings Lynn.
If we get 8 people its £40-50 each IIRC for a day's drifting, more if they turn on the floodlights.
We have more than enough locals to make that a regular practice.

Can you just take your own standard road car round? I'd be interested as Im not far away so if I put it in the wall its not too far to get it home! Drifting on shale would be easier to learn on, right? Ive seen the banger boys drift old granada's round there and they make it look easy! Mind you, the steel plate wall is rather unforgiving!
Swaffham Raceway can be rented pretty cheap, although theres no concrete infield to mark courses so it would just have to be drifting round the oval.

Id be interested in the Kings Lynn area option too. We should easily be able to get 8 people onboard, even in these parts!
You can take any car you like round and we drift the concrete infield not the shale oval, so the shale is used as run off before the wall. The wall is fairly soft though. As walls go.
Cones are needed to mark out a track. We used Norfolk Arena for BDC Round 3 so its plenty good enough!

This the one where the walls are pretty close to the track:wack:

If enough members were interested, we might even be able to organise a day at Norfolk arena as a club event (which may mean that I can get member's a subsidised price aswell!)... I'd have to check it was ok with the powers that be, but I wouldn't imagine it'd be too much of a problem!
What do people think?

Ive posted this on driftworks to see if we can drum up some more interest :)
Depending on when this is I might be up for it, I need to do some work to her before I would be happy to drift her.
If I cant drift I'll come along for moral support:sxoc:

Well that looks like we've got about 8 people already! :wack:
Chris, Fingers crossed we can run this as just a club event and see how it goes first... I'm sure I'm going to have to sort something out with regard to marshalling, so I'll have to have a chat with Docwra and GmasterT and see if they'd be up for helping out...
Leave it with me, I'll see what I can get sorted!
Oh - this is liable to be something that'd get booked for early next year as I'm sure people will have family commitments and a serious lack of cash coming up to xmas.

Yeah I'd be interested once Ive got the cooling system sorted. Also depends on dates for me as I work filming banger / stock car racing (not just at Kings Lynn, but all over!) but certainly be interested. Would there be any chance of a kind of tutor session for the people who have never drifted before? Also depending on dates, would there be a market for a DVD done so you can watch it back and learn from it? I may possibly be able to sort that out as I do the stock car dvds at the track, but obviosly I'd like to take part too!

Well, I can teach people how to understeer and then spin! :wack:
Fingers crossed we'll have some guys who know what they're doing there as well as noobs (infact, I want to have some experienced guys there, as I can see a disaster if we don't!), and from the one drift event I've attended the people have been pretty friendly and willing to offer advice when you ask.
Although the dvd does sound like an awesome idea, I think we're best off just sorting out the session for now. It's certainly something I'd keep in mind for the future though!
oh, and get signed up for membership! ;) It's only £15 and you get loads of benefits!!
I'm not a member :wack:.
But I'll happily jump in with people and give them pointers.

Well, I'm losing a little heart with trying to organise stuff like RR days and drift days in East Anglia. I get loads of people telling me it's what they want to see and do, but when it comes to the crunch of paying up, nobody seems to be interested!
Jim, are you paid up for the rolling road day yet? Come on man, show me the money and I'll have more confidence with organising these things! :wack:

As said before - the east anglia forum died quite a while back and has been hard to get restarted. Events will need to be promoted elsewhere on the forum to get enough eyeballs to see them

03-06-2009, 23:04
Chris, events are always promoted elsewhere in the forum, You'll note that the RR day has threads in EA, home counties and essex & kent, along with a thred in the events area. Combine that with most people who want to come along having it advertised in the sig and there aren't many other places on the forum events can be advertised :wack:
I've got no problem organising stuff for people, but if there simply isn't enough interest then the events can't be run. I've been trying to get an APT RR day sorted for months, everyone say "great, I'd come to that" but when given a date, nobody seems to be interested anymore! If we're getting Norfolk Arena for a drift day, we'll most likely have to pay upfront, I'd like to be able to ensure we can cover the cost of it without having to go over to driftworks...
right i will pay for RR day tomorow promise . wanna do some drifting. cant the little oval at snetterton avaliable?
Stuffing
04-06-2009, 22:30
That's something else I can enquire about, but I don't think an oval will interest any of the more experienced people... But we'll see, there are a multitude of options! Once the RR day is out of the way I will make some more enquiries and see what we can get sorted! :)
yeah ok cool just thought the oval would be ok for people like me who have never done it

To be honest mate, you don't need masses of experience because I expect that we'll try and do a similar set-up to how dwyb is run at santa pod! If we can't fit it all in, we'll run it in stages with the easy stuff to start off with and then increase the complexity so that everyone gets to have a go at roughly there level... :)
think i may get laughed at lol
