Seriously trick stuff for my Merc Cosworth

Ordered the front Anti-Roll bar and gear shift bush kit...

Feeling better know, because ultra hardcore street racer stuff ain't just the preserve of the Jap boys...

So does that mean we're gonna see the Merc Cossy at drift days then?

Nope

Currently getting the LSD rebuilt.

The 1986 2.3-16v was the only year fitted with LSD (as opposed to torque sensing ASD on 87 onwards)

The clutches have no tensioners on them, and rely on shim thickness to maintain pressure on the clutches.

Clutch life expectancy is approx 25,000miles normal type fast road driving.

One drift day would knacker the LSD - resulting in a £600 rebuild.

Besides, 1400kgs & 187bhp/137lb-ft with LSD do not make for a driftable car!

That's somewhat limiting then isn't it

D'you know owt about the ASD? Is that likely to be just as fragile?

The ASD is fine, as the clutch plate pressure in the diff is controlled by hydraulic pressure from the self levelling suspension system - this applies pressure to inside of the casing, resulting in an increase of clutch pressure, thereby reducing slip between the two sides - an early form of the S14a electronic diff.

The LSD on the early valvers is a straight locked LSD - far better on the track, but without spring tensioners once wear sets in, it becomes cyclic - more slip = more heat = more wear

The bonus of the LSD is: no response time worries, no electronics to go wrong, no pressure loss worries, lighter assembly

The price of performance over reliablility I suppose.

All the 16v from 87 onwards had ASD.
