This (http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1684) stuff is very good and is the proper padding for cages.

This is the stuff I used int he S14.

Fire proof too (well, flame retardant).

the cage isn't that thick really. probs about two inches. do you think either one would fit okey?

2"

No way!

It wont be 2". Even the Fabricage main roll hoops are only about 50mm. WHich is 2". NOrmal cage bars (front/uprights etc) are probably more like 1 1/4 ".

THat padding I had was fine on my car with the fabricage cage

LOL. Not really. Just a bit more experience :wack:

Here's the thread on the D:Mon site for the cage fitting and EDC scruteneering level makeup.

without sounding like a ghey I'd really recommend getting some FIA spec padding to go anywhere within about 75cm of where your/passenger's head is, as otherwise in a fairly small crash you could permenantly put yourself onto a soup diet if you connect head to bar; you'll completely crush padding not made to this sort of spec, and take a chunk of cage-to-skull contact. This is still important even on track with a lid on.

**Please note I totally despise the FIA, so to recommend something by them hurts my soul and demonstrates how important I think this is!**

I used this (http://www.lifeline-fire.co.uk/motorsport/rollbarpadding.asp) near my head and the earlier link for the rest of the area. It's very hard though and not very head friendly so watch out if the car is a daily driver.

Thats the stuff I have used on my cage. Its hard stuff but Ive more faith in that than stuff that looks like pipe lagging.

Trust me, its NOTHING like pipe lagging! I would have put anything I didnt feel happy with in the car.

its already got thin foam dotted around it but I want thicker stuff.

anything that can be deformed by zip-ties is not going to be enough protection in a big shunt mate, even if it feels really stiff... there's no give in the FIA spec stuff, and the reason is that it's designed to stop the contact between helmet and cage; so anything less tough is not going to do the job to the same extent; I'd use the softer stuff for protecting knees and elbows, but have this stuff for anywhere a head could hit. As you say pipe-lagging is pointless

True true true. But I think youre underestimating how tough and hard it is. I think its ideal for daily drivers stuff.

yeah you've got to hope so mate! Tbh I'm definitely going to get FIA :hurl: spec padding when we get the cage sorted... but I still don't want to find out for real how good it or any other padding is! I'm definitely of the thinking that the cage is for stiffening the chassis, and crash protection is just a nice something you can work into it :)

anyway, the stuff you'll use most is the door-bar protection section... I hate those "bruises on bruises" you get from things like that when it's not covered, simply from getting in and out the car in a clumsy manner!!

I never got anything from the door bar. I guess its technique and what seat you have.

Nor me. The only parts of my cage that are covered are the bits with in 300mm of people heads.
Only time Ive injured my self on it is while climbing around in the back and nutting bars :wack:

I was recommended by the MSA scrutineers to have padding above door across drivers side screen bars and also the door bars. I haven't got any piccy's but will take some when I have the chance
