OK, I have a shiny new force feedback wheel and a broadband link - time to get some driving sims/games! What are the good ones, using 'how close to real driving' as a very important factor?

So far, I reckon -

Surprisingly like real driving: CMR2, GP4, Nascar Racing 2003, Racing Simulator 3, F1 2002

Not so hot: MS Rallisport, Cora 3

Totally unrealistic/no wheel support: TOCA Race Driver, Need for speed Hot Pursuit 2, Test Drive, GTA III

Anyone suggest more?

You wont touch another, it's still in beta, but it's very very very good... I run an SXOC Racing server most nights...

I challenge your GPL with my own 'realistic' contender: Viper Racing!

Has 3 settings, arcade, inter, and simulation. Simulation is very cool. Kinda hard to get hold of, doesn't run in 2000 / XP by default, there is a patch released for it though as there seems to be an active player list for it (Found a link on the same forums as liveforspeed, btw). Also you can mod the Viper :D Compete in the league and win cash and as such go from stock power to Viper GTS-R (700bhp) level. Very fun.

Yeh, they even "fade" out rather that simply go on and off. :o I was quite impressed with that myself! :D

GTA3 for pure hilarity (sp) and a game you can spend 5 mins just playing without worrying about long loading times or missions to complete!

Not sure if steering wheels are supported!

The most realistic in my opinion are Rally Championship (the original not the arcadey sequels) and Need For Speed Porsche (tweaker's heaven and arcade racer's nightmare :D )

Gran Turismo 3 on the PS2. I haven't played a better driving game yet.

All the cars have distinct driving/handling characteristics, you can modify them loads, and it all actually makes a difference to the way they drive. Plus the graphics are awesome.

And plus you can drive an RPS13 and an S14a in it :D

Well its not that realistic (In terms of the way most of the cars handle) but the road layout and geting to put bits on cars etc... This is a MUST for fans of jap performance cars...

TOKYO EXTREME RACER ZERO (PS2) Played it for hours and hours... There are loads of cars (S313,S14,S14a,S15,Skylines, evos and just about most other jap cars) Finished it in the end but still play it as it actually gives a reasonable thrill and sense of speed... You can also pic is up (But its quite rare) for a tenner...!

well, i'd say GT3 but really it'd have to be the original GT... shame the graphics are so dated now.

also F355 Challenge on PS2. obviously prefer the actual "arcade" game. Probably the hardest, most realistic game you'll find in an arcade. Oh and I play it with all driving aids set to OFF. :beam:

Proud to say I've got 2nd place in Monza (yes it's that hard I cant get 1st place).

Auto Modellista for the PS2 is Ok. It's pretty easy but quite fun, abit more in the vein of Ridge Racer type arcade racers rather than the GT3 sim style but the concept is nicely carried off (other than the irritating tw*t who "commentates" thro the races).

Grand prix legends is the one. The Nurburgring in full, cars that are extremely difficult to drive a huge array of setup options but getting it all right is very rewarding - a sub 1:30 at Monza ( the easiest track!). Also practically every track you can think of is available to download .

I'll second that. If youlike drifting, this is the game for you!

Possibly one of the hardest racing sims ever. Very skinny tyres, lots of power and no driving aids.
