Yesterday I took the Shopping Trolley in for tracking and balancing.

On checking the fronts for the inevitable tread wear they were found to have wire hanging out of them!

ie They were shredded!

Now I don't drive like a loony in my Punto as I use it to drive my Daughter round in and thus keep an eye on the important things like tyre condition, brakes etc. and even I got caught out.....:(

Just shows what a truly crap idea FWD is.

I know you can shag the rears on your 2***** but, you must admit, you've got to go some to do that.

The Punto has done it just by the continual bouncy rubbish action of pulling out of side turnings and driving round town.

And this from a BHP hungry 1.2 power (I say 'power'....) plant.

FWD is a caaaaaaaaaaaarap idea

Was there ever any doubt that it wasn't?

Ditch your Punto m8 and get a Merc 190 like I did. Cost fcuk all to buy, use it for absolutley every thing day to day wise (5000 miles in 2 months), never goes wrong and is...... RWD.

FWD = bouncy, scrabbly shit.

FWD does have its advantages...

its easier for the inexperienced to control near the limit...

its cheap for manafacturers to produce...

and errr.... hmmmm..... yeah, thats it...

not going backk to FWD for a long while yet (not until its family time), gonna stick with me RWD or AWD

And THAT is PRECISELY why so many cars are FWD.

Anyone who says different is struggling with their grip on reality.

JB: Can't have a Merc or similar 'cos the Punto is in lieu of a company car and has to fit the following criteria:-

1) Less than 6 years old (the BIG problem for me)
2) MUST have 4 doors
3) Can't have more than a 2.5 engine
4) Can't be a 4x4 (no problem there ;) ).

If the issue wasn't age then I would probably have bought something else although, now I am 'with child', I'm very glad I've got the Punto.

Apart from the Scrabbliness, of course ;)

Another reason is space - you nees a teansmission tunnel on RWD cars and space is at a premium in a small car.
