my mate is intrested in one of these???? i look on the autotrader and cannot find any??? are they really that rare???

Imported only I believe, so yes :)

There were some official imports. mostly used as rally cars. They were called the Corolla GT, and I think they are pretty rare. I think there are a couple of people on here with one. PazzaAE86 has one, so he'll probably know more about it. I wouldn't mind one myself for a first car, but I might just wait and get an S14.

I got mine about 3 months ago after a couple of years of searching for a good one (i thought...lol)
There are a few kicking about but prices range from 500 to 5000 pounds, i can see where some of these prices come from because mines abosrbed the best part of 5K during it's restoration, so much for cheap alterative to a turbo motor!

Paz no doubt will jump on this thread pretty soon and fill you in on all the history etc.. (saves me typin it)

THe main problem with most AE86's is rust , rear pockets, inner wings , front crossmembers and all the usual places. Engines are branded unburstable with is pretty much true , just check for the usual neglect and signs of wear.

Mine will hopefully be making a apearence at the 5th of May Drift Practice at turweston, along with Paz and a guy call Cas who did pretty well at the last event considering it was the only normally aspirated car competing.
