Someone asked about cars that kick ar$e ??
I got a chance to ride in a '92 S13 fastback with a 300zx twin turbo motor / 5speed..... WOW!! Car still had stock turbos, single 3" exhaust, no air mass sensor (hks vpc?), but ran an 11.8 quarter it's only time at the track. Scary to think what it'd do with "real" mods... even in third gear you're still violently pinned in the seat! Most impressive street car I've seen, quiet, effortless power with a glass smooth idle and ac. So far he's walked away from two heavily moded S13 / sr20det.. Drivetrain went in there with ease according to the owner, and looked factory. The only reason I didn't buy it is because I really dislike working on that motor - you're supposed to enjoy this hobby right ?
I also know of an S14 240sx powered by a homemade turbo kit mounted to the original kade24 (us model 2.4L) / auto tranny. Runs an upgraded first gen 300zx turbo unit, 3" exhaust, big FMIC... etc. Car turned out far quicker than expected. My buddy has a built ka with forged pistons, head work / cams and a 5speed / perf. clutch on standby... just waiting to blow up the original equipment, he says. Soon. It's a slick looking piece too with full suspension mods, lowered on custom 18x8.0 / 18x9.5 wheels.
Shopping for a good digital camera now, so I'll try to get a page up on these beasts as well as my own car.
I'll eventually get performance out of my S13 on par with my buddy's v6 S13, but I'll swap in a 2.6L 4cyl (parts cheap and readily available, easily makes 450hp / 500ft-lbs). The CA18DET is nice, but it'll be too much stress at that level (breakage) and parts are already hard to find around here. Also, my steering wheel is on the left, so no point in even going with a big turbo, only to choke off performance with a resrictive downpipe that has to clear steering.
I've been contacted by a guy recently that says his ca18det puts out 440 hp to the wheels!! Luckily he's only a four hour drive from here... I plan on making a trip to check it out
later
