Someone asked about cars that kick ar$e ??

I got a chance to ride in a '92 S13 fastback with a 300zx twin turbo motor / 5speed..... WOW!! Car still had stock turbos, single 3" exhaust, no air mass sensor (hks vpc?), but ran an 11.8 quarter it's only time at the track. Scary to think what it'd do with "real" mods... even in third gear you're still violently pinned in the seat! Most impressive street car I've seen, quiet, effortless power with a glass smooth idle and ac. So far he's walked away from two heavily moded S13 / sr20det.. Drivetrain went in there with ease according to the owner, and looked factory. The only reason I didn't buy it is because I really dislike working on that motor - you're supposed to enjoy this hobby right ?

I also know of an S14 240sx powered by a homemade turbo kit mounted to the original kade24 (us model 2.4L) / auto tranny. Runs an upgraded first gen 300zx turbo unit, 3" exhaust, big FMIC... etc. Car turned out far quicker than expected. My buddy has a built ka with forged pistons, head work / cams and a 5speed / perf. clutch on standby... just waiting to blow up the original equipment, he says. Soon. It's a slick looking piece too with full suspension mods, lowered on custom 18x8.0 / 18x9.5 wheels.

Shopping for a good digital camera now, so I'll try to get a page up on these beasts as well as my own car.

I'll eventually get performance out of my S13 on par with my buddy's v6 S13, but I'll swap in a 2.6L 4cyl (parts cheap and readily available, easily makes 450hp / 500ft-lbs). The CA18DET is nice, but it'll be too much stress at that level (breakage) and parts are already hard to find around here. Also, my steering wheel is on the left, so no point in even going with a big turbo, only to choke off performance with a resrictive downpipe that has to clear steering.

I've been contacted by a guy recently that says his ca18det puts out 440 hp to the wheels!! Luckily he's only a four hour drive from here... I plan on making a trip to check it out

later

I've got an old Max Power (I know, I know) with a heavily tuned import 180SX in it. It was an older one with a CA18DET with a T4 turbo, knife edged crank, 8 injectors etc. Apparently the guy bought it in Japan unaware of all this! They dyno'd it and I think it was averaging about 570hp. I wonder if the cars still around?

PS Whats that 4cyl 2.6 you're thinking of putting in? I think dropping in an RB26 would be a nuts conversion if you have the cash!!

Is that a green 180sx ? The guy with 440 road hp mentioned that he brought the car over from japan. 570hp... incredible!

I wonder if that Max Power is the same magazine as the US. Which issue is it ?

The 2.6L is from a us model mitsubishi starion. Why ?
'cause I know these motors well,
I like the torquey feel for everyday driving,
extremely easy to wrench on, (pull turbo in 15min)
parts cheap, readily available and,
the main thing I want to have is my exhaust on the right side of the car, away from the steering linkage. This would easily solve my exhaust plumbing headaches.
I plan on using the nissan electronics to run it, with bigger injectors etc....

I swapped a 2.0L jap starion motor into my
2200 pound '81 corolla (this thing jets!!). So this kinda stuff is no biggie.

I think from memory it was silver. In fact it looked fairly standard from the outside! It was an old issue - maybe 2 years old? I'll see if I can dig it out tonight and scan it in.

Heres a nice video of a crazy Corolla (with 3 rotor engine from a Eunos Cosmo shoved in it). Barmy..

christ!!!

i had to watch that 3 times to believe what i was seeing, thats something boeing would be proud of.

as for the silver/gold s13, its in the may '99 issue (silver saxo on the cover), on one run it did 603bhp, on low boost!!!, then the computer blew up.
i to would love to know if its still around, what a machine.

i think its got the 2 litre lump in it though, not the 1.8, as suggested by the tech spec.

dont take my word for it though, i can be a bit numb at times.

Rick, you could well be right about the engine in this baby being an SR20 - one of the earlier 'red tops' maybe.

Hmm, it seems Geocities don't like me linking to files from here, so go to
http://www.geocities.com/papalaz1/180sx1.html and this should hopefully work http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif

Your picture links aren't working http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif Geocities is complaining and causing a stink!
I remember the car from the Max Power, and Matt and I came to the conclusion it most probably was a 2.0 not a 1.8 - Didn't know the computer blew up though! Was it about 610-620bhp? Looked very mental. Torque curve must have looked like a heart EEG readout .. all flat then some ginormous vertical spike. Yes.. wet roundabout .. Slightly off topic now, http://www.crazydriving.net has some interesting vids in there now - in particular an Audi Quattro Sport which rockets off from a junction .. Oh, and an 800bhp mk4 Golf :!

The 180SX in Max definately had the SR not the CA. Also had standard brakes as I recall.......
