View Full Version : Dori Car / OPT Drift Club practice day - Monday 12th May

Dear all,

Our next practice day has changed dates this May. The date is now Monday the 12th of May. The practice day will be held at our usual venue, Turweston Aerodrome, near Brackley, Northants.

The day will be run from 9am - 4pm. We will be changing the layout of the track to allow for some real practice rather than having a set course which some people who are just learning might find off-putting. Myself, Kiki, Non and Brett will be there on the day to give advice/help and to marshall the event. We won't be hogging the track time, so there will be plenty of time for everyone else.

The layout of the track will incorporate a donut arena to practice small radius drifts and a figure of 8 layout. We will then have a large u-turn to practice long drifts and an s-bend section to practice linking left and right handed drifts. We will also make the day more interesting by moving the layout around.

There will be a quick safety briefing in the morning, then the drifting will start without a lunch break and carry on until 4pm. We will try to have the cafeteria open throughout the day but it is advisable to bring your own lunch. The nearest town; Brackley, has lots of chip shops, cafe's etc. The nearest McDonalds is about 10 minutes drive to Towcester.

Results from the UK D1 Round 1 are as follows:

1st place - Non (OPT Drift Club) S13
2nd place - Brett (OPT Drift Club) S13
3rd place - Myself (Dori Car Drift Club) Skyline R32 GTSt
4th place - Scott - S14
5th place - Caz - AE86

We have 20 places for the practice days and would like all people to book in advance. We have lost money too many times from people backing out at the last minute. Therefore if you are interested in coming along please send a £50 cheque to:

Peter Wolstenholme
5 Palmers Moor
Thornborough
Bucks
MK18 2HP

I have roped my parents into organising the money side of things for me so please make cheques payable to the above.

£50 is the total price for the day.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to call me on (07977) 079154

Thanks in advance and hope to see you all soon.

James

I couldn't remember Scott's surname. Otherwise I would have posted that instead. never mind. edited it now. Will u be coming Phil?

I Neeeeeeed to drift m8, but I don't know if I can afford it, I'm also not liking the idea of havin to be stickered up when doin a comp :(

Driftaholic
08-04-2003, 23:34
you get 3 free HKS stickers that retail for around £25 total! the 76oil one is a bit shit, but just take it off at the end of the day? We can't hold these events without sponsors. The insurance is a killer! It's have a sponsor or charge people double!

PhilMorrison
08-04-2003, 23:44
Insurance is a nightmare fair enough, but to charge people £70 to enter a comp, and then insist on them displaying these advetisments?? I don't know, maybe I'm the only person who has a prob with it, but as I said in the other thread, I have put 'alot' of effort into making my car look the way it does, and the last thing I want is some tuning company taking credit for the 100's of hours I've put into buildin it (and mags etc refering to my car as the "Black HKS S14").. don't get me wrong m8, I don't have a prob with attending practice sesions, but I'm thinkin I'd rather not bother with the comps, if it means that I have to pay £70 (which I think is pretty steep) 'and' have to put gay stickers on my car ;):D
please don't take offence m8 ;)

Driftaholic

But trust me Phil,

It all adds up. You've not been to a proper day I don't think. We're very well organised now. You wouldn't recognise the days now to the old days. We have a hired marquee, cafeteria open, HKS stand. Last day we only just broke even. I could break down the costs on here but it's private really. But the marquee costs £400 hire, insurance is over a grand....it all adds up.

For the sake of a few stickers we think it's worth it. Plus if you win you get a nice trophy, oil, £300HKS voucher for winner, runners up get HKS t-shirts, posters etc.

Come to the next one mate and i'm sure you'll not be bothered about a few stickers :)

Kev
09-04-2003, 01:59
Its all too far away for me so i spose my comments are..... useless...

But i totally agree with Phatty, i wouldnt be putting stickers all over my car to advertise someone else.
2 stickers are on my car, 1 saying www.sxoc.com and the other saying www.apex-performance.co.uk

the reasons are that both organisations have helped me a great deal in building my car, and saved me a fair bit of money also.

I'll have to come and check out 1 of the practice sessions then m8 :) I guess I won't be able to compete in the finals tho, as I will not let any1 put stickers on my car, maybe we could come to sum arrangment so I don't put stickers on my car and If I win I don't get the HKS prize ot sumthin?? does'nt bother me really :)

I'd like to give it a try but I've never been to a drift day and was wondering whether this would be suitable for a complete novice.
I also drive an auto and £50 is a lot of money to cough up to make a total prat of myself. Could someone try to reassure me or should I just forget it.
Thanks Don

i'll be sending the cheque in the next few days cos i need to be involved in this after attending the 7th of this months , im still telling everyone about it now!!!!

What's all this about the sticker problem , they look cool on the photos and vids it's a HKS sponsered event so hey if you dont fancy them on ur paintwork put em on ur windows and take them off when ur finsihed. (Cant see the problem).

Trust me iv'e never done a event before and the 12th will be my first time, but i dont care what i look like, i hoping for some pointers so Paz you best get ready for some scary rides, this was one of the best motoring days of my life up to now and the next one cannot come round fast enough.

£50 quid is well worth a days drifting. It'd cost you a lot more if your caught doing it on the road!

Im even looking at R32 GTS's after hearing James and Mat ripping up the track.

NO NO NO need to finsih AE86 damn you guys!!!

These events are perfect for the learner. Especially as Kiki, Non, Brett and James will be helping and they are all shit hot at Drifting..

As for an auto, yes it makes it harder (cus the easiest way to learn is to Clutch kick), but it can be done.. Oh D, where are you? :D Just takes time like everything, i bet everyone made a fool of them selves the first time round.. I know i did :)

Konban wa! ;)

With auto you're pretty much confined to power-over, and relying on weight distribution, and throttle control to make your drifts. Once you've got the hang of throwing your car around, it's non-stop fun!

Drifting in '2' can be done, but it's harder as you still have kick-down to contend with, I used to drift in '1', as I had instant throttle response, with no kick down or loss of power. This used to result in my hammering down a runway and into a drift, hitting the limiter all the way in 1st... but drifting isn't meant to be good for your car now, is it? :D

I've just done a feature for Revs magazine tonight....just got in, and was offered £5500 by a guy called Aman who came along to watch. I'm really considering it, so if anyone here wants it give me a shout. 180SX with SR20 will be the only replacement for it!

the 7th was my first experience of dorifto and it kicks ass even when you're crap like me:D I had 1 good drift in the whole day (with 2 passengers:eek: ) and came last in the comp, but it was so fun that I decided I'm gonna practice until I'm better than Non:rolleyes: :D
