View Full Version : ticking sound ARGH
Hopefully I am just being a novice here, but when I lift the bonnet with the engine running I can here a ticking sound on my S14a.
When I press the throttle it goes away, so I don't think its the tappets. The car has been driven well, not thrashed and now has 50,000 on the clock. I would appreciate any suggestions as to what the noise could be/is. Nathan, have checked and there does not appear to be anyone trapped under the wheel arch.
Am a "little" (reads -> quite a lot) concerned, and will get it checked asap.
Thanks,
John. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif
PS The car is coming up for a service. And the noise cannot be heard when the bonnet is shut.

You sure its not just the injectors ticking away?

Dave,
To be very honest with you, I wouldn't know what an injector sounds like if it came up and bit me!!
Computers and Hifi systems are my speciality. Am trying to learn about my car...
Hopefully this is all the noise is, but will ask blokies in garage when they service it for me.
Thanks for the reply Dave,
John.

Dave,
Have just met Nathan and Paul, and they are thinking injectors too. http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
So it loks like I have been a car hypochondriac.
Thanks guys,

Haven't been able to go very far, have been packing for holiday. Going on Monday, tomorrow, and I still am not sure as to the where abouts of my passport! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/confused.gif
It really has made a difference, couldn't really notice at first with you and Paul in the car, apart from the noise of course!!!! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
Went over to Hatfield last night and I really was suprised. The car just feels so much better, so much more responsive and livelier (spelling ??). Have noticed some strange sounds though, a kind of odd vibrating sound, that can be held at a certain set of revs? hmmm... Any ideas? Car did make noise before without Blitz fiter, but not as often, could just be a vibration somewhere. Or perhaps Waste gate chatter?? not that I know what that sounds like!!! http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/biggrin.gif
The car needs a service, plugs, oil, oil filter etc.. and will probably go for the blitz exhaust too. Will see if the noise persists after that....
Nathan/Paul, Thanks once again!
Am going to be offline for about 2 weeks from Monday evening.
