View Full Version : Should I buy another s13?

I'm keeping my old one for trackday use only, but I've got some money burning a hole in my pocket for an everyday motor. I've got around £2-3k and fancied a change from 200sx land.

I wasn't planning on getting anything TOO quick because I'd still have the 200 for track day blasts, heres what I'm considering:-

Toyota Mk2 MR2
Honda CRX (maybe v-tec)
Supra (not too keen on insurance and fuel consumption)

But having looked through the autotrader the 200sx is still the cheapest for performance per pound, but the rust etc puts me off (plus the fact that I've already got one!).

How much would a K-plate s13 with under 90.000 miles and excellent condition bodywork cost me? 17" alloys would also be appreciated.

I'm crap at deciding things :(

Dunc.

You'd be surprised about the insurance on a Supra TT, cheaper for me than my 200.
If I was you I'd buy another 200, but then I'm biased. Or at least thats what Kev and Jonny kept calling me tonight.:D though it was more like ya dirty biaseded

the supra isnt too sad on insurance nor running costs IMO - i was regularly getting 25-28mpg out of my 3.0i MkIII, non tubby admittedly but still good

The Mk III Supra is just as quick as the Mk IV if you can source one with the rare 1JZ-GTE engine in it - that engine is the predecessor to the 2JZ-GTE in the Mk IV. Differences are the 1JZ is 2.5 litres and as such is revier by nature (2JZ was stroked to 3.0 litres by Toyota) and the 1JZ has parallel twin turbo's where the 2JZ replaced this with the sequential twin turbo setup. Both engines put out a similar amount of power and big gains are to be had with both by simple things like decent zorst system. Mk III Supra's already in this country are very cheap now, they were made up 'til '92 and as such they are Grand Tourers on the cheap, mainly cos everyone wants the Mk IV - just check out Autotrader.

The other option is the Toyota Soarer which comes with the 1JZ-GTE engine or a 4.0 litre V8 and is totally loaded, a top spec car almost as good technically as the Mk IV Supra but a lot plainer in the looks dept.

Mk2 MR2's still hold their value pretty well and as such your choices are limited with £3k to spend, especially if you are looking for a Turbo model.

Would you recomend a NA one over a 200?

its a comfy car thats for sure, and it drives beautifully - doesnt have the "sporty" feel of the s13 - more of a grand tourer. Only slightly slower as standard and better specced inside.

I really enjoyed my one, still miss it now. But an s13 all the way for fun IMO :)
