Anybody Else Buying Wipeout HD Next Thursday (25th)? [Archive]

Only £11.99 downloaded from PSN Network Store. Loved Wipeout 2097, the new one gets great reviews and is a bargain for a full game with online play too. I think it features a lot of tracks or something off the PSP version, but I couldn't give a crap as I have never played it. Nice to get a decent reasonably priced exclusive for the PS3 for a change ;)

That's the first game out on the PS3 that's made me wish I had one :D

Bought my PS1 after playing the original wip3out, and 2097 was awesome. Even quite enjoyed the third outing on Ps1 although can't remember what that was called?

Shame the ps2 version was total turd :(

Think I may have to go and annoy some of my ps3 owning friends so I can play this :nod:

meh i dont think i will buy this one as they had to 'tone it down' as it failed several times on epilepsy tests :(

the third outing was fecking awesome and called wip3out, i owned all of them for the ps1

It's cheap enough though, so I will definitely try. If it is sh1t it is not like the usual £40 a game. Then again I guess you cannot sell it. I can see them also making money selling add-ons for the game in the PSN store. I loved 2097 it was the only game on the PS1 that I liked, my other favourite games at the time were on the Saturn.

What made the games for me was the music too, wipeout wasnt great but 2097 and wip3out were fantastic!

guess you have to rip the music from there as you wont have a disc to rip the music from :wack:

also they have kept all the teams from wip3out and some of the tracks look like modified versions from wip3out which was my favourite out of the three.... guess i will buying a ps3 now then too lol, 300 quid for one game... im mad

Never had Wip3out, but 2097 was great music. Fluke - Absurd was my favourite, the start of that track is so awesome :cool:

Just put the £300 on your credit card ;)

Wipeout HD is already out in the states by the looks of things from the main website and nice too see the icarus team is still in it as those ships were fooking quick but weaker than a wet paper bag when a weapon hit it. though i dont remember triakis or harimau...?

EDIT: Shite just found out one reason why wipeout fusion and the rest have been so poor....... wipeout, wipeout 2097 and wip3out are ALL made by Psygnosis but Fusion, Pulse and HD are made by SCEE..... which if pulse and fusion are anything to go buy then this may not be great - but its showing more potential than pulse and fusion did so still could be good.

Might have to try it on somebody elses ps3 before i buy one purely for this game

I bought Wipeout 2097 (PS1) off ebay as I love the game. The graphics are really bad now though on a big LCD, really blocky so I can't be bothered playing it. I dunno if they do anything to improve the graphics on PSN, but I am not sure that I would download it when it came available if they don't, unless you have a small LCD or a CRT to play it on.

six axis will be shit to control wipeout. Especially when it gets to the faster stages! :wack: Motion controls are never precise or fast enough.

Fook me, got my cuz in america to buy it as he has the same taste i do and he said it was fecking awesome and i should buy a ps3 just for this game lol, he said for $20 (price it is over there) that its worth every penny and youd have to be nuts NOT to buy it

Wow - this looks awesome. I've only been mucking around for the last 25mins and it plays well and looks superb.

I've got it playing on a wall mounted 50" panasonic at 1080p and I found myself standing infront of the tv about 1m away - so my entire field of view was wipeout (in a dark room) and christ on a stick does it look good!

First thing to do is switch the motion sensor on - it works so well!

Have you downloaded the game i.e the 1gb download? or is it just the 'Unlock-er' you've downloaded?

GO back to the download list in the PS store - it sounds like you've possibly only select the unlocker for download and not initiated the actual game download yet - its probably still queued in you list of downloads??

As the threads about Wipeout, i'll go with that. It is very good, the motion sensitive controller is great! I'm loving it - just need to get a dual shock I think.
Haven't had much luck with the online mode though I seem to join races that never start (ok, 2 but that tested my patience:wack:) hopefully they'll be more on tomorrow.

Anyway... how were the young ladies in Thashers week?

I've not tried online yet, was determined to get gold in all of the starting events :D I've got 4 golds so far. What a fantastic game, it looks gorgeous but the feeling of speed just isn't there for me, weird.

I like it, I am still not sure what all the weapons do but will have to research it. It is pretty fast on the higher classes. It looks stunning, I really cannot complain for £11.99. I am a bit of a noob, but when I play COD4 after this, which I always thought was a really fast game online it feels so sluggish. Definitely the best game I have played apart from COD4 but I need to spend more time on Wipeout, the online works well too. At least you can pick the track that you want, race type, and speed class etc, when online. Something which I really hate about COD4 when playing free-for-all not being able to choose the map that you like, like you can on the PC version.

I'm loving this game. I'm also really liking the motion sensitive controls - although a dual shock is definately a must (I'm guessing here - but i think thats what my standard controller is missing).

It looks and runs absolutly stunningly - I need a bigger TV:wack:
SOund is great and I think my only critisim is the lack of music - although what is there is very good - and I presume you can select your own music to play in game anway.

Bit of a thread bump. Will probably need moving into the gaming and tech section.

Does anyone still play this? I finally got round to buying my second PS3 (now that there are some good games out!! ;) ) and now have this on it.

Have any of you got the beat zico trophy (achievement)? In sixty laps of finger shredding I've managed to get down to 31.20 secs. But I still need another 4 tenths! It's impossible! Having a rest now (thought I'd look up whether or not there had been a thread on here).

Seems I'm two years late to the party! :wack: been a fan of wipeout since the original on the PS1. It's been one of the strong reasons of me always buying a PS3.

This guy seems to have the best technique. But it's so difficult to pull together and hope everything happens right all together.

I've added a few side shifts that seems to make me quicker against my other ghost but i keep falling apart at the end of the lap.

Must of done about 200 laps so far trying to get it. :wack: If i persist it might come together eventually through luck!!!
