View Full Version : Imports and Limiters?
My friends has just bought a S reg Jap Impreza WRX and when he told me it was limited, I said "oh it won't go over 100?" and he said no it's got a limiter on the rev, basically when he puts his foot down it gets to 4k and cuts in every gear, I've witnessed it and beleive me it's nasty!
Do they do this on many imports or is his fooked?
sounds like something is wrong there - theres usually a speed limit, as you suggest, but not a rev limt that low.
Sh1tter, the lad has only had it a week

The first thing to check is that tt might be either his actuator that is broken (might as well get an HKS adjustable one in its place for like £80).
Secondly, he might be overboosting.. Check for anything that has been put on the car to run higher boost (ie, bleed valve :( ECU Piggy Back unit etc) and this could be another reason why its doing it. The boost it set too high for the stock ECU, and its hitting its pre-programmed fuel cut. The easy solution would be to turn the boost down bit by bit untill it revs through out the whole rev range in 3rd (ECU's tend to limit boost in 1st and 2nd, so while it might not happen in those gear, it could still happen in 3rd and above.. Dont know if this applies to Impreza's)
Another cause of overbooting could be a split pipe on the actuator..
What you describe is not the way imports are limited, they just simply refuse to go above 180kmh and its a gentle limit.. It sounds exactly like when the actuator failed on the Starlet i had.. It nearly made you headbutt the windscreen!!!
Hope that helps..

Kool, cheers guys, the guys on scoobynet said it could be overboosting so I'll get him to check the pipe etc like Pazza said.
Good job guys!! :D
