The damn BMW water pump has decided to start pissing water out the front seal, which in turn soaks the fan belt etc and makes them slip - hmmm lovely screeching noise at 3000 revs.

What I need to know is do any of these quick fix additives (Radweld, Stop-leak etc) actually work & would they be suitable for my problem? Or should I just stick a new water pump on?

I've got a few long journeys ahead of me, so I need the car to be working properly and not have to stop every 50 miles to top the Rad up :(

Where did you get it from?

i got mine from eurocarparts, though german swedish french are the same price.

Mine's an M10 not an M20 but still be pretty cheap i think.
just looked on http://www.gsfcarparts.com and they are £10.72 + vat for M20 upto 1988 or £20ish for 88 onwards, not sure why though TBH. Oh reckon it might just be a different manufacturer.

Don't risk sticking rad weld etc in it.

You want to get that 200 of yours finished bro - Bimmers suck.

Especially when they pull out in front of your fiance's brother on his motorbike and write it off. Bloody beemer drivers.

:)

I think it's just a different manufacturer TBH, but £20 is still pretty cheap. But yeah is typical LOL

Heh, must say thanks again Jezz for the link, Partco wanted £40+VAT  and didn't have any in stock :(
Ordered one from GSF parts :)
Got these bits too:

Wiper blades £3.75 each :)
Fanbelt £2.50 :)
Windscreen washer non return valve (which is also pissing out water  ) £3.40 :)

Cheapy Cheapness rules :D

Shame there isn't the equivalent for Japanese cars.

Easy job? My arse it is.
I've had problem after problem which i've managed with but now i'm stuck:

Can't get the viscous fan coupling off the end of the water pump shaft - its on solid. Ive had the other end of the shaft in a vice but it just tears bits of metal off the vice jaws as I try to turn it :(

Help, what can I do??

And yes, i'm turning it the right way!

Did you know it's a left hand thread?
If so try heating the nut gently, trying not to heat up the viscous thing.

I did it in the end :). I welded a big pipe to the shaft to give me something to get hold of :D

Its a bit of a job though.. especially when the under tray screws are rusted solid, the head of one of the distributor cap bolts has been rounded off by some ****wit and the bottom tooth of the altenator adjustment rack is missing    :(
And which stoopid kraut decided that the bonnet would be best hinged at the front!

Ah well its done now and at least the weather was nice through all of it :D

fooking hell, that's a bit of an arse isn't it. :(
All the rust sounds like my S13, or how it used to be, the number of sheared 6mm screws I've had to drill out and retap is ridiculous.

When you put it back on put some grease/copperslip on the thread just incase it needs to come off again.
