Green fluid - wtf?

Got in teh car this evening. Had gone to Sainsbury's 2 hours before. About 1/3pint of green fluid on the drivers mat. Carpet around it isn't wet, steering column isn't wet/sticky.
WTF????
Acidic smelling too. PAS still works normally...

Normally green fluid in the foot well points to the interior heater matrix (radiator) leaking, but acidic smell?

Stick your finger in it and lick it, if it's sweet, it's antifreeze. If not, erm.... Don't lick it again :D

See if it looks the same as your radiator coolant.

heater matrix? it has been making odd smells recently, but it is only a standard old style sliding thing for heat - ie not aircon or anything.
if it is matrix, what can be done?

sounds like heater matrix. Is it a slightly sweet smell?
If you put the heater on full hotness does steam come out?
You say it's not the same colour as your coolant.... are you sure?

:( They can be a right cow to replace on some cars. Half the dash out, heater box out etc.

Hopefully yours might not be too bad, follow the two coolant pipes from the engine bay that go through the bulkhead into the interior of the car. They normally go straight into the heater matrix, if you are lucky, the matrix will slid out of the heater box.

While you are looking at the heater box inside the car, put your fingers into the outlet vents to see if you can feel any coolant, this would confirm it's leaking :(

Hang on, surely the stuff in the matrix is the same as the stuff in the rad? :confused: If Starionman says it's not the same then it can't be the matrix, can it?

The rad stuff is a much thicker consistency and, I'm fairly sure, more blue. I'll have another look today........
