I've been doing the turbo gaskets on my 180, and it's nearly all off, except 1 of the water pipes to the turbo.
I've done the one at the front of the block, but the other isn't like on the s14, it goes around to the back of the block, and looks to me like it goes into anther pipe.
How do you release it

Any help much appreciated, thanks

hi mate

there is a bracket which you have to un- bolt on the back of the block ( very awkward)

then you can pull pipes up and disconnect them i think ?

I did mine using a pair of long nose pliers. The metal pipe goes into a rubber pipe just after it disappears between the head and bulkhead. You can get to the clip but i won't lie it is a little awkward.

I blocked it off, fitted a UK S14 alloy pipe (where the hose joins back to the head) and used S14 braided hoses :)

Cheers guys

So, the braided hoses you need are the S13 one to go to the back of the block, and S14 for the other water and oil, unless I change to a S14 water outlet, then use all S14 hoses, right?

I'm not sure about the S13 hoses..... Does the CA18 have the return to the back of the head?

I have S14 on mine except for that hose which i left standard for the time being. I was told it was the same as the S14 but found out when refitting my turbo that one of the hoses was different so left it.

I now have the elbow StuyMac mentioned and next time the turbo's off i'll fit it and the last hose. That's definately the way forward....

I think the hose goes to the back of the head on S13's, going by what I could find in the S13 section.

I cut a section of the pipe out in a nice easy position, just by the RHS of the manifold and replaced with fuel hose, and jubilee clipped on later... :)

I've had another go at it tonight.
I undone the 2 bolts holding the bracket on to try to get better access, but after much pulling, I ended up just cutting the pipe.
After I moved the end section up so that I could see it better, I noticed the spring clip thing around the hose :annoyed:

Easy007, I thought you were on about the bracket earlier, not a spring clip on the hose :o

Cheers for all the input

Done a bit more to it.
I found it easiest to take off all the coil pack wiring out of the way, and remove the top heater hose to, which leaves it like this

The small pipe that goes to the turbo T's off underneath on the metal bit of the pipe the heater hose comes from, as in the picture.

Seeing as it's so akward to get at, I thought I'd extend the pipe, so I cut up some of the old hard pipes and put some flares on the ends to help keep the hoses on

I put that back on with a small piece of hose on the end to attach to my new braided hose to (S13 type water one)

Thats as much as I've done for now. Should be finished soon, fingers crossed.

Thought I'd update this, as I've done a bit more today :)

I bought a S13 long water return, and S14 oil pipe and the other water pipe.
When I tried to fit it all, the S13 long pipe fits ok. The 2 S14 ones caused me much grief, and I couldn't get them to fit after a lot of messing. The swages on the pipes just seemed to be too long to allow the pipes enough movement to fit, and they clashed against each other. I don't know how you others managed to get yours on, maybe they were a different design to mine (Hose Solutions).
These are the offending pipes

In the end I admitted defeat and went to Earl at Silverstone, (who are really helpful) to get some pipes made to my own spec. At first I just got the water pipe made up but with an angle on the end instead, so that it would clear the oil pipe. I offered this new one up, and it looked as if it would fit, and give room for the oil pipe. The pipes from Earls had a lot shorter swage on them to so it didn't get in the way of fitting

Next I tried the oil pipe and realised that wouldn't fit :annoyed:.
Another trip to Earls to get an oil pipe with an angle on the end, and the right sized banjo, as the one I got with the first pipe was a loose fit. Showing the bloke at Earls, he said it was the wrong size, 12mm, and got me the right one for the job , 7/16
I also asked him about the banjo bolt for the block, as the one supplied from hose solutions had a 7mm bore hole up the centre, where as the Nissan one had about a 2mm hole restriction. He thought to use the Nissan one NOT the new one. Maybe the 180 turbo has got the restrictor in the bolt then

Happy days now I thought, got all the pipes:D I went to fit them, but the angle on the water one wasn't quite enough to fit

Another trip to Earls to get an extra angle adapter. While I was there, the bloke confirmed what he had thought about the oil feed bolt. He said he'd had a customer who worked developing turbos in and he said it was as bad to have too much oil to the turbo, as not enough.

This is how it is now fitted together

and I just need to put these pipes together

So almost done, :sxoc:

so am i right in saying you need the s13 long hose and an s14 hose kit and really an s14 turbo to get it to work properly?

Easy007

You don't need an S14 T28 at all

You do ideally need an S14 hose kit and an S14 alloy elbow off the head as this will make fitting the pipes sooooo much easier.

That would have been alot easier to do with the S14 water pipe.
If I were to do it again, that would be the way I'd go.

by using the s14 elbow (i have access to one!) do i just blank off the rear water feed pipe?

Easy007

yep  screw/bolt in the end.
