Im looking for some help in finding out what the normal emissons for a 1994 180sx. I think its listed on cert of conformity or something. I need it to vrt the car in Ireland cos there saying its putting out 999g of co2 per km. which sounds pretty fecking crazy. Even if someone knows if its under the 250ish region or not, ifs its more than that it wont matter anyways.

thanks in advance.

colm is asking about CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emissions. You two are talking about CO (Carbon Monoxide) and HC (Hydrocarbon) emissions.

CO and HC are produced by incomplete combustion of the fuel. A well tuned engine with a cat can easily pass the legal limits.

CO2 is produced by the proper, normal complete combustion of the fuel, and is basically another way of measuring fuel economy (carbon in = carbon out). colm is in Ireland and is faced with the application of the new, CO2-based road tax / registration tax to older cars.

CO2 is just fuel consumption; I'd imagine the 180 would be very similar to an S14 as it has the same engine and is the same size. Alternatively, if you can find a car with similar fuel consumption that does have official figures, it will likely be close on CO2.

The problem is that there are no official figures for an older import such as a 180, which is probably why your govt is listing it as 999 - it's just the default maximum. The question is, if you got it professionally tested to govt standards yourself, could you force them to accept your figure, or would they still be able to lump you in with all the 'gas-guzzlers' ?

yea, the new laws here are a huge pain the arse. the good thing is as far as i know that they will accept differnet co2 figures if you have something to back them up. Just finding them is being a bit a problem.

so just go with it
i think something like 255 is what the emissions are on the s14s so i reckons deyll be similar

yea it only like an extra €200ish for the vrt i think dude, but the prob is that if i vrt it with that rate then its €2000 for the road tax

no its not!!
tax laws only change for new cars
the only way the new laws affects imports into ireland is the vrt is based on co2 emissions
the tax stays the same!!!
570 a year or something close to that
