Help me convince him to do so!!!!
I wouldn't even have to think about it. M5's are luuurvely :D
I know what an M5 is, i just think its funny watching a grown man cry :p

Yeah go for the beemer, though dont expenct anywhere near the tourque of the Mustang....
The 3.5 Litre M5 engine isnt to tractable, and is based on the (and more or less is the) race spec. CSI engine, thus meaning that unlike more modern beemers with a wonderful tourque curve, this era of M5 really needs to be worked HARD to get the best out of it, drive before you buy.
I drove one when they were new, and frankly the 540i was an easier and more reqarding drive!
Defo give it a drive though, and see what you think!
Thanks Rob, thats really helping! :D :D
hmm... what to do...!!
Vez, thanks mate, thats what I need, some constructive comments!! :)
Must go drive one now... :p :D

Hehe, just thought I'd do my bit ;) :D
Cheak stuff like radiator and other engine bay ancileries, because these should have been replaced as they tend to fail as the old 5's got on a bit (around 4 years), have a good listen to the chassis as you drive it to, there should be NO clonks from the suspension....
See if you can still get one thats under extended warranty (yes they are around) and at £500 a year are worth every penny, and are good value, and BMW are very flexible with mods and extended warranty to (though check with your dealer, there is a friendly one in reading that defo is).
Make sure all the toys work, there are buckets of them inside, and fully leccy seats too!
And on your test drive, dont get TOO enthusiastic with the right foot, they will drift as well as a 2*****, my old man had a 525i sport (same suspension setup as M5) and that got regularly sideways too :D
LSD is really nice and tight, and none of that TCS nonesense either!
Its the only way to go....

dont do it Skip !
its a boring faceless BWM , how can you possibly compare it to the 'stang ?
the mustang is too cool to swap for a poo bwm, even if it is an M5.in stead of being the envy of all true pertrolheads for having a real american muscle car you will be the envy of sales reps and old people (the only people i ever see in M5's) :p and who wants that ?
ok ill admit to having never driven one, but then again i havent driven a mustang either.
at the end of the day its up to you mate but for the love of god dont do it ! :D
Hehehe, thanks guys! Now I am even more confused! :) We'll see, the Mustang isnt going to be the easiest car to sell even if I wanted to... I have until June to decide, ts when all the tax, insurance and MOT turn up together... :(
I am going to drive one next weekend with tanjuakio, it'll be fun either way!! :D
Take the Five.
I got left for dead by one last year - wow!

Dont know muck about M5s or beemers in general, but I would have thought the M3 coupe is better due to weight - am I completely wrong here?
Superb car that they are, I am not liking the pimp comments I am getting :( But I really really want one!! :D
All will be revealed when I test drive one on Sunday...!
0-100 in 13.5 seconds is sorely tempting, the Mustang takes 15 seconds to do that, how lame...! :p

you're an evil man ;) :D :D :D
There are a lot of BMW drivers who stick a M5 or M3 badge on their car so it wont stand out. Get a skyline get a good turbo, paint it bright flip blue and you will be a god. Every body owns a BMW they all look the same they are nothing special and are expensive. A skyline is a car you dont see every day and it looks something special.
There is a black R34 skyline in middlehurst for 15K see autotrader. I went to see it but decided on the cheaper 200sx cos I like performance but the skyline was a bit to fast, the 200sx scares me when I floor it never mind a skyline.
Other cool cars
imported Rx7 8-12K
mitsubishi fto
mitsu gto
scooby
etc, etc
I have heard it all, I am not bothered about the looking really cool bit, I love the fact that the M5 looks like a normal bee-emm, but will waste most things this side of a Porsche.. :D :D
Condsidered a GTS-T Skyline, may go and look at one over the next couple of weeks, dont want any of the 4wd rubbish, RWD is the only way... :D :D
Alternatively, I could just keep the Mustang, and add nitrous...

I say get the M5, although I'd prolly get something like a Supra/rx7/nsx/skyline if it were me (budget permitting).
Woooo 100th post :)
Well, who knows, thanks for the input peeps! Youll just have to wait and see..!! I may yet be tempted to turn japanese... :D
voodoo_melon you can now change your flame spitter thingy above your avatar... :D

Erm what planet are you from ?!?!?! BMW's HANDLE I used to have an old E30 320i and you can really throw them about (much more than my 200), almost every BM is better balanced that most cars on the road.
Save up loads and get the V8 M5 ;)
This one was bugging me because I really dont like beemers so tryed to create a watertight argument but failed but got some research anyway.
performance, price...
2001 M5
5litre V8
390bhp
0-60 = 4.8seconds
weight 1800kg
cost for 1999 above £25,000    :(  :(
cost for 1990 bout £7000 (fit for scrappers in my opinion at this age)
1998 NISSAN Skyline GTTS (R 34),
2.5litre inline6 turbo
250bhp
0-60 - 5.6seconds (guess)
weight 1550kg (ish)
4kish+/- on engine = 400bhp, 0-60 of 4.2seconds or under

If your looking at straight line speed a modded RWD skyline will pip an M5 (if u dont mind modding). If you want handling though the skyline will handle better mainly due to its weight BUT at the end of the day they both handle like a sack of spuds. If you want handling get a light car, noble, lotus, evo, rx-7 etc. BMWs and skylines will be beaten by a caterham easily round a track. But caterhams are not practical. NB a standard scooby 270bhp would beat both to 60mph (4.5seconds I hear floating bout net) and corner better, but this goes against your principles, being 4WD?
Skyline advantages
If you enjoy moddifying and the incredible fun turbo kick, noise etc
Easy to import a low milage mint condition one (even pre-modded 4 u)
Disadvantages
Hard to insure group 20 + £300 for being japanese + £200 for being moddified (exaggurated guess) :(
BMW
Fast
Easier to insure
Dis - expensive to buy
german
common looks
Why dont you try them all out, if your in no rush go and have a look at them test drive etc. Only test drive dealers cars cos you dont want to waste anyones time. After extensive searching I went for the 200sx, I did not look at beemers because i dont like the looks. I also associate BMW drivers with a certain stereotype probably unfounded as all stereotypes are but it still puts me off BMWs. But with japanese sports cars the majority of people dont know what they are they just look cool and are quite fast and cheap, plus the film fast&furious persuaded me. Try it u may like it.
Hope this is of help. Anyway I better get to work now, these cars dont pay for themselves (unless I start a taxi company that is).
Thanks Mr T, thats the kind of feedback I wanted!! You basically have come to the same conclusion as me, go test drive them all! :D Be fun finding out either way!! :D :D
Why not....Keep Mustang and
Purchase the Drag spaceframe conversion for the front and rear of your car, with all new suspension and coilovers all round!
Then your car will corner too!
Then do the supercharger bit (but dont do those massive hoovers) get twin vortex units (tiny little bleaders) and intercool them! :D

In case you hadn't noticed, the king of indesicion (Skip) is now tempted by a skyline GTS!!! He's a feckin boy! :p :D
I may be the king of indecision, but whichever decision I make, I will be :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D a lot...! :p :p  :D
Oh bollocks, why now look at a twin R1 engined Mini?
360 BHP RWD MINI, 0-60 in 3 seconds? Probably cheaper to build than a skyline and maybe just a little quicker too!
