Hi Guys & Gals
bit of R&D here, but as thread title really.
What would it take to get you to more meets and events. Be as honest as you like. Are the meets in the wrong place, wrong time, are you shy, do you not like the people (although i doubt many will admit this:wack:). Even if its because i smell and Bristol Blue forces food down your throat:D
Really we cant improve if we dont know whats wrong so fire away.:sxoc:
edit: please no-one take this as a personal snipe. its purely informative:nod:

Imo, I don't think anyone should blame other people for themselves not wanting to go to meets. Ok, so sometimes a few idiots turn up (namely prats in shopping troleys at Longwell), but as long as the core people at the meets either strongly dissaprove or completely tell them to do one then that's all gravy.
The reason I don't go to that many is simply because I'm a lazy bastard and I usually don't think I want to go and meet new people - both reasons that are because of me and me alone.
I'm going to try and make the effort a bit more (like I did a few years ago when I was new to the club) and go to Pembrey next weekend.
Saying all that - if the club would spring for hot girls attending in bikinis with ice cold Stowfords Press cider, then I think we should all make a combined effort. :D

Seriously though, I don’t think there’s much actually wrong with the meets, like Tom says, there’s sometimes a few idiots, but it’s not like we’re a Ford meet or something equally as common, it’s not even as though it’s a Jap or even Nissan meet, getting enough SX owners together at the same time and place to form a decent size meet is always going to be difficult, the only thing to do is to be as welcoming to everyone (with any type of car) as we possibly can be.
thirded about the lady attendance.......strangely enough....
seth pretty much sums it up really.....
matt...you could well be onto a loser from the start, you only have to look at the weekender.

thats my partly my point though. It was a great event on our doorstep and the local attendance was pretty poor...

i usually find that the time is akward because its right in the middle of myday so i only make a few meets normally, i would prefer 10-11 instead of 1-2pm as it usually is.... dunno if anyone else feels the same?
what it boils down to at the end of the day, is, different people may want different things from the club. I am reminded of what someone i now class as a good friend of mine said a few years ago at Peterborough, and that is how the club had gone beyond the car. some people may want/welcome a more social aspect to membership, i, for one enjoyed the curry night, and will, if possible attend the next gathering. this years jae, im not even taking the car, just going to have a pretty drunk weekend meeting up with friends i have not seen since last year. i suppose, for me, after close to ten years ownership, i could even be bored of the car and looking at them, but still enjoy the company of some/most of those that i have met.
a working SX?
in my case working silvia

The above post is about events. As for meets, I don't think there is too much wrong with the meets. Ours is a rare car so sometimes there may only be a few people attending but thats enough for me. As long as I can see 200SXs and talk about them, that'll do.
i see your point:nod:
What would it take?
I think more choice would help, rather than just the club organising everything and every detail and then just asking 'are you coming or not'. I think the important thing is the cars, not the BBQs or the Jenga etc..they come second in my book and I would rather they were an option.
That is, I believe more people would say yes to attending if events weren't always an 'all or nothing' kind of thing.
Thats what it would take as far as I'm concerned. I hope this helps in a constructive way.
I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say mate  What choices are there not enough of? Without a few distractions such as a BBQ, Jenga etc. most non-track events would just be a load of cars i.e. a meet...?
Or do you mean more varied events so you have a choice which ones to go to, like we have bowling on Tuesday and Hangliding on Thursday and you decide which you're keener on? In which case it's tricky as we already struggle to get numbers - any event takes time to 'set up' (even if you only do that and don't 'organise' it) and the more events you have, the less people generally attend each one.
Not dissing your point, just genuinely trying to understand what it is :wack:
me i always work on a saturday, so will never be able to make it to a meeting. could always try a midweek night sometime?

Well I am new and would need to travel but I'm up for meeting as soon as the car is on the road. Sunday's are always a good day cuz thats usually fatty food day in my diet so mcdonalds and burger king are a must lol. If you get idiots turning up maybe shift it to a better spot, I don't like the car park at longwell at best of times but with summat lowered it is bound to cause issues. Maybe somewhere in a similar area. JJb car park down near brislington isn't much further n ppl have had meets for other stuff there n security are always pretty good n there's a pizza hut!!!

Dont know what you guys currently do, but I will be moving down in January and would personally be attending locally monthly meets, definatly be at the weekender and would want to attend a few track days (if I can get the car tracj worthy this year :D)
Up here in the midlands, a lot of us try and catch up at least once every few months for a good p:zz up (all be it, normally at the reps house ;)), I hope you guys do the same?

Bristol meet is held once a month, as are the Cheltenham meets.
Location details in the following thread:
http://sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=59933
Normally in the better weather months there are other meetings and impromtu get togethers!
Much is planned for '09. When the longer light comes back in the evenings it will be easier to arrange evening meets on weekdays, pitch-and-put golf, fish 'n chip runs, and more club stands at Castle Combe events!
Keep an eye on the West Country section for details.
Do we ever go for meals? Meet up drive to a pub and have a roast or something? Would be good, could even get a pint! :)
I imagine il be attending most meets regardless but im a fat bugger and cars + food + beer + women = heaven.
Just gotta hope there are some saucy waitresses. :)

After a few events, those who haven't had to dash off have often grouped together and gone for meals. And as Matt said the food orientated events last year were the Cheltenham curry night,Christmas get togethers and the BBQ.
Oh and cheesy chips are ofter the order of the day at the Swindon meet.
Don't forget the SXOC BBQ at Japfest:thumbs: All cooked in the SXOC Car-B-Q.
It's an easy one to organize. Feel free to start a thread if you want. I'll probably go. However I need to tone it down a bit as I have events planned for the next 3 months.
Love the West Country spirit:thumbs:

"west country spirit"
ooooooooh arrrrrrrr!!! lol
well i havent gotta sx anymore but i like to pop along just to see some old faces. i quite lik the place where we meet but what i was thinking was have 3 ,1 in the south Gloucestershire, mid shire and north area's and rotate where we meet every month to try and get more people to come, if you get what im trying to say???
that way you dont get bored with the place you meet and gives other members around our area a chance to meet up and maybe making it a little easier for everyone...?
Ya get me???? ohh arrrrrr :sxoc:
