Am I the only one who enjoys the disapproving looks and shaking of the head from people as you drive past with exhaust screaming and dump valve going? :D :D :D Maybe I shouldn't but it is so much fun.
We have several old people around here and I just love annoying them with the car.

I prefer just crawling past people with the low growly rumble from the exhaust then blipping the throttle and getting it to pop. That way you can annoy people but they can't critisize your driving or accuse you of speeding :D

It's why I have sorted out my DV so I can turn it on and off - sometimes, I don't want to draw the kind of attention a DV draws - ie the Nova Brigade trying to race you.

I felt really bad last week, with my slightly blowy zortst/turbo gasket, the tubby screams like a jet engine under high boost, hotly followed by the wastegate flutter of not having a dv....

Anyway, took off along a streight road near where i live, on a quiet sunday morning, and put foot firmly to floor in second, said jet engine noise sent some poor old lady flying to the other side of the pavement, nearly dragging her husband to the floor, think she thought it was a rocket or somut!

Found this funny and also felt very bad at the same time:( :)

Sorry old lady, i didnt mean to scare the living daylights out of you :)

Hayley
26-03-2003, 13:24
OK so I am the only one. :)

I never said I was speeding though. We have a hill in almost every direction you go around our house, so driving up them in second gear (not fast) means the exhaust is loud.

Some horse riders pissed me off the other day, i come round a corner and see said riders about half a mile in front of me, so i slow down and put it in 5th to keep the zorst noise down, get up to them put it in 2nd and go past at about 3mph being as quiet as possible and it must have been obvious i was trying to be quiet, but no i hear "shut that bloody engine up you twat!"  get in front of them and put it in first and floor it:mad: there was no meed for those sort of comments i always respect and take care to be qwuiet whenever i see people on horses but they were just damn rude!!

Horse riders are a funny breed, some are very nice, and are polite when i slow down, we wave at each other and smile, and some are just damn right rude. For which there is no excuse.

Hayley
26-03-2003, 13:33
To be rude to car drivers is wrong, totally. But to get in front and then floor it was also wrong and could have been so dangerous. There are idiots everywhere, but to risk harm to someone is not really a sensible reaction.

Sorry but I know how dangerous it can be on a horse, and how badly injured you can be coming off them.

And roads are not just for cars. What about bikes, pedestrians, etc. If there were more bridle paths then horses wouldn't have to go on the roads so much, but there isn't.

Jezz_S13
26-03-2003, 13:41
Horses on the road fcuk me off big time!!

They expect every fcuking right and expect to get away with shitting everywhere. Do they pay tax? Do they fcuk!!

I'm terribly sorry if you like horses but they are dog & cat food AFAIC.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Personally I think kids should be locked away instead of running around the roads kicking balls into my car and garden, and generally annoying me.

Everyone has a right to use the roads and dangerous driving and putting someone in a potentially dangerous situation is not right and to be honest, pretty stupid. You all condone speeding around schools and so on, yet you are happy to frighten a horse and risk the rider.

MOST riders don't expect anything more than consideration.

Didn't approve of booting it - which is why I said pull over and give them a good shouting to. Roads are not just for cars, true, but they are definitely not with horses in mind as the priority, and this particular riders attitude was as if he owned the road, and all cars should be tuned with horses in mind.

Perhaps the horse and it's attached rider should go find a field or somewhere else sensible to go play in rather than on the road.

Hayley
26-03-2003, 13:59
I know some riders can be rude, I've worked for some right idiots. But where do you expect horses to be exercised? There are so few bridle paths around, and some are them are too dangerous to ride on. You have to go on roads to get to them. Riders don't want to be on roads, we have no bloody choice. I once had to ride past a quarry with great lorrys coming and going because the entrance to the bridle path was next to the quarry entrance. It's not right but it's life.

My point is that you shouldn't put people lives in danger. Half a tonne of horse can do a lot of damage and they scare easily. They have a right to be there and do deserve respect. Slowing down and pulling out to pass them is all we ask for. For your car's sake as well as the horses.
If someone was rude to you in the street would you kick their dog? That is the same as frightening a horse because the rider was rude. Abuse the rider not the horse. It's only an animal that doesn't understand.

You try and get a farmer to let you ride across one of his fields. You'd have more luck being allowed to take your car in there.

You don't own the road, horses have rights as does everyone.

I pay for my right to use the road, do horse riders?

SMiFFAD
26-03-2003, 14:08
When i used to have my landrover i used to get in many an argument with horse riders whilst off roading.

this shut them up:

"if it wasnt for people like me, you wouldnt have tracks to ride on, do you ever take a saw with you and clear the track? i dont think so"

They do tend to have this idea they have right of way everywhere and cars should be taken off the road!

Think you have to be a bit funny to own them anyway, my mums got a couple, we used to have great arguments about this! :D

Booting it isnt a good idea, but i know the rage when you are polit and get the finger back, you just feel like wolloping them back into reality! Usually find a few stern words shut them up, cos they are very eager to shout at you in the belife you will ignor them and drive on, they change their tune when the car pulls over and you get out!

Hayley
26-03-2003, 14:09
Do pedestrian, cyclist, etc.

I have to pay taxes that go towards schools yet I don't have kids. Why should I pay. You just have to be grown up and realistic sometimes.
So you hate horses, do you really want to risk their life. Do you really hate animals that much that you want to put them in danger.

Tell me how would you feel if you killed a human because you frightened their horse and they fell? Would that make you feel good? Would you be proud then? Is it really worth it when all you have to do is stop and yell at the rider.

And do you really believe that car drivers own the road?

I don't ever remember seeing anything anywhere that stated that with the invention of the automobile Horses are now barred from public highways.

Car drivers generally are good with horses, and horse riders are generally curteous to cars, however in both categorys there are morons, and quite frankly flooring it in first afterwards is a bloody stupid thing to do. Two wrongs don't make a right, they hurt your feelings (and were out of order) but you could have caused a serious accident or injury.

Finally, half the reason that we are so "advanced" as a culture was due to the domestication of horses by our fore fathers, it allowed us to cover much larger distances, wreak havoc on weaker neighbours and for hundreds of years was the base for Britain becoming a strong agricultural and later industrial power.

If you haven't guessed I like horses, I would have one, but they are hard to housetrain, and I have no stable ;)

Jezz_S13
26-03-2003, 14:21
If you read what I've posted I've never said I've put a horse at risk, or frightened one deliberately. Neither would I, and yeah I'd feel very bad about it, that's why I slow down.
Still it's not usually enough for the pompus twat riders though.
I don't like horses though no.

Yep I also resent paying tax for schools, shite NHS, this fcuking war. Neither of which I plan to use or in the case of the war agree with.

Look, I don't really want to argue anymore. You have your opinion and I have mine. Just don't judge us all by the bad examples. :( If you ever passed me on the road you would know that we aren't all bad. If I ever had problems with my horse when a car was passing, I would signal to the driver, for their sake and mine. Just be considerate, that's all. And take my word for it, most of us don't want to be there. We have to be.

Jezz_S13
26-03-2003, 14:35
Being labled as bad examples...

This is kinda why I posted this "...Us boys just get labelled as boy racers. " at the begining of the thread, it's a stereotype, just like horse riders some good, some bad. :)

I am considerate to horses for all the danger aspects mentioned previously, the fact as to whether I like them or not is immaterial.

ooppss, caused a bit of a debate here, I live in the country so have to deal with a lot of horses on the road, i am very carefull when around horses for their safety as well as my car`s,i actually stopped because one of the horses was being a bit jumpy about other cars going fast the other way, i then waited for it to settle down and then proceeded as quiet as possible past them, they would have been well aware of how carefull i was being coz you can hear my car from miles away so their comments were well out of order. I was being curtious(?) they decided not to be, so i proceeded as normal without taking them in to consideration.

Interesting. What you are doing is admitting cowardise by taking out your feelings on an impartial observer to the whole event. If you really felt that strongly, you would lash out at the person, not an object who never cuased you offence.
Displaced aggression is a deadly trait, unfortunatly. It incidates a predilection for avoiding potential confrontations or, even more interestingly, for escalating them through some injurious action to a third party.

whilst i do agree that horse riders have a necessity to be on the road at some point, i dont disagree that car drivers "own the road" - i mean, at the end of the day car drivers pay tax to maintain it, and lets face it - horses dont need tarmac ;) You dont see many other types of road users contributing towards their upkeep (regardless of how little/much damage these users actually cause or dont cause)

But i DONT agree to anyone forcing horses off the road, scaring them or any other type of activity in this respect - i mean, c'mon, be courteous to others and they will be courteous to you!

I am not flaring up a dead argument here guys, merely adding my say - i think its a valid, honest and unbiased say so pls dont lynch me, or any other board member for it :)
