FRIENDLY FIRE

Is it me or does it seem like we are killing more of our own than the Iraqi's are?

- Two Helicopters crash into each other an kill many!

- Patriot missile hits Fighter plane - Kills pilot

- Patriot missile locks onto F16 and F16 takes out patriot launcher!

- UK TV reporters killed by US troops

- Two UK tanks shoot and kill/mame one another

etc, etc.

(Take last Gulf War 1991 - UK army lost more men because of the USA than because of Iraq)

We keep being told the UK/US army's are the best in the world/have the best equipment and yet we are killing each other.

What hope in hell do we have when we get to Baghdad? I think we might loose 1000's in Baghdad. I just pray we don't.

Mate, can you imagine the friendly fire incidents in WWII!

There are always going to be friendly fire incidents in conflicts. Especially I'd imagine in these frenetic battles and street fights around the cities where Iraq forces are allegedly donning American/UK uniforms. Human error is always going to be a problem.

I am a bit surprised about the incidents involving Patriot SAM's though. They should be able to identify pretty quickly through their systems whether an aircraft is a friend or a foe. The allied planes should have like an electronic ID signature which should tell the operator their status. If this is not working properly they really need to look into this urgently before any other "mishaps" take place.

Not like the Iraqi's are flying a ton of aircraft up. That seriously was a big error that needs some explaining. Sounds like someone got a little trigger happy or wasnt doing something right on the ground or in the air.

I agree with you guys.

Friendly Fire is so upsetting though, I just think what a waste.

Makes me sad. :( :(

Apparently it was down to the software picking up the ID tag. The Tornado did transmit it and it was received but was misinterpreted by the missile battery. The radar should then have showed as a green dot but it remained red, warning of an incoming missile. Woman commander in charge of the battery didn't think and just fired:rolleyes:

Missed one Tornado (they were in a formation of 3  ) but slammed into the second.

In war there is bound to be some amount of friendly fire, but with all the technology we have today surely some of these incidents could easily have been avoided:(

Its bad enough having to die for your country in a foreign land without it being at the hands of your own troops:(

Yes, but with the advnaces in technology...

Totally unacceptable. having said that, by the time we reach Baghdad (if we ever do at this rate) Saddam will probably be anble to finish off the few troops we've got left with a single clip in a Magnum.

When did that happen? Not heard about it on the news, but that is pretty hilarious... assuming people didn't die in the incident.

Yep agreed, you could be your biggest enemy. So far 22 US troops killed and 20 Britsh troops killed by freindly fire.

Blame Blair, he sent you to war:rolleyes:
If he concentrated on domestic issues for once like the firefighters problem this country woulds be much better. Looks like the only thing Blair want to do is keep Bush happy and go along with anything he says.

Don't know whether this is true but someone told me Blair was Bush's Gimp?????

Hmmmmmmm let me think for a second, if you didn't go and INVADE another country the troops would be at home or with their families:rolleyes:
If they are with their families and not fighting they are going to be safe from friendly fire. I know this maybe difficult for you to comprehend, but just try:rolleyes:

Hmmmmmmmmm let me think a second. If Saddam got rid of his WMDs there wouldn't have been a war. But of course you'll find some way of twisting this to fit your ideological views.

I'll probably get banned for this but I really wish you'd stop posting this shit.

Yesterday I think. Saw it on the news whilst at the gym at 4pm :)

Luckily the radar for the missile battery was away from the battery itself, hence no casualites :)

Imran this is just a suggestion but this is a 200sx Bulletin Board, and the non 200 area is a convenience we have so we dont have to talk 200sx 100% but its also meaning we dont talk political events or anything else 100%. If you really want to put accross your points to people, it would be better to do so on a more appropriate forum, no? you are starting one too many problems with your "direct approach" on here, so please use it elsewhere, respecting wishes and all that..
cheers
