Only time I've ever seen anyone else going sideways is when I came out of a roundabout on full opposite lock in my old MKII Escort years ago... then I saw a sierra XR4I do exactly the same thing in my rvm :D then he came past me like I was stood still :(
looked bloody cool tho :D

There was a young lad with a 2litre sierra that used to work in a factory i was working in. We used to get to work around the same time ever day. The car park had a really nice low speed hairpin at the far end so we had regular tail out contests on that corner every week. I never actually knew the guy... still don't even know his name but he got quite good at copying me round that corner.

Yep - back when me and a mate both had 2.8i Capris. We had loads of little drifting competitions.

I was better though ;)

Saw an old WRX come round a roundabout sideways near my parents place in Kent once, exhaust popping and spitting flames, dump valve pshtuiing as it straightened out and launched past a volvo on a dual carriageway. Looked good to me :) My scoob-loving friend nearly had a sticky accident tho :)

hmm, everytime Jackal,JK and I go out for spin i'm the one showing the way with sideways action... must admit, if I pull of out a junction on full chat Jackal is always there, ready to oblige...

JK, we need to take you out on an airfield some day, give your car a workout :)

Sierra Cosworth slung the ass out on corner exist from what looked like boredom being stuck behind a micra the other day. I cheered.

He had a flat and was in a state of shock and panic, keeping his foot on the gas whilst leaning out the window shouting for help :):D

Yup, I've followed my mate from his workshop in his full rally spec MKII escy, and watched him drift all the way round a roundabout, and then again drift out from a set of traffic lights in rush hour :D

When I was a wee boy, I was with my mum in her car going over the duke pass in Aberfoyle the weekend of the scottish rally, the dukes pass is a steep up and over climb/descent between Aberfoyle and Callander, loads of Alp like hairpins(well nearly) when Jimmy Mcrae(Colins dad) caught us up(only just my mums a nutter behind the wheel):D in his Sierra Cossy Rally motor and my mum pulled into a layby and let him pass just before the hairpins started, he passed us and slid round the hairpin while waving, I had always thought it was the co-driver but mum swears it was left hand drive which makes sense for a rally car.

A few times, best of all was at a light controlled crossroads, when I was waiting at the front of the queue. This 3000GT came flying round the corner sideways - a good precision bit of driving, as the road he was going into is quite tight with bollards either side, and the 3000GT is hardly a little car!

Quite dangerous really, to onlookers as well as the driver, but I couldn't stop myself from grinning at him and giving the thumbs up as he went past :D

Ask Matt to re-create this story at Billing with his usual facial expressions and arm motions, it really does add another dimension to the story :D:D

Out for a blast one evening - got to the Goring/Long Furlong junction.

And what did I see?

An AE86 Corrolla going round and round and round the junction very very sideways.

Sat and watched for a bit.

Gave him a cheer

and then joined in!

AE86 and S14a super drift stylee!

He then crashed it at the washington roundabout - so I gave him a lift home to pick up a spare wheel to replace the one he smegged.

Other than that absolutely loadsa times - mainly from my rallying/motorsport mates

One incident sticks in my mind though.... My mate and former co-driver/navigator Steve, let him drive my Manta GTE hatch. drove it up the road to a roundabout 400yds away. He's never driven a Manta before (he never drove the Manta 400 in anger) and as we leave the roundabout he hoiks this almighty 4 wheel drift oversteer, one handed, looking at me and says;

"Yeah, its alright this...."

Anyone who's owned a manta will testify that they ain't the easiest things to drift standard.

Then there was the occasion with the GSi3000 on the disused A-Road in the snow, again with Steve, when the Law showed up..... and demanded we let them have a go!!! Copper, in my GSi3000, on snow, public road, 1am, pulling enormous slides and giggling like a schoolboy!

How do S14s rate as "easy to drift" cars? I've never tried anything else, and obviously not all RWD are created equally. Is it easier to drift an S14 than most things? Seems pretty effortless to control to me (most of the time). :P

Don't think I've ever seen another car sideways :'(

S14s aren't as easy as you'd think - damn turbo lag spoils the fun... needs big v8 response and torque to make it really funny

Saw a sierra cossie get a bit sideways on a roundabout down at blackpool a few years back. I was in a kia mentor at the time and all i could manage was a rubbish scrabble from the front and a load of understeer......knew i had to have RWD after that.

Manta's are easy to drift.... so's the S14

if you wanna try something awkward try a 3 series...

damn back end flips round real easy if you aint carefull

the Chevette used to be hard as well before it got a live axle

hehe, all the time. My mate had this knackered xr4i and fitted a LSD. he then took me for a trip round his home town. O.M.G. the guy is a headcase anyway but EVERYWHERE was sideways. He never once lost it though, he always had control.
Then there was my other mate who had a 4x4 saph cosworth. understeered in the dry, but in the wet;) we used to have broadsiding competitions. me in my 3-door, him in the saph. we'd have a code signal of a single flash of the hazards if we were going to play. then we'd know to back off and give the other room.
Then there was Stockley park. in the wet it was sideways heaven, loads of diesel on the roundabout from the turning lorries y'see sooo effortless to broadside, you didnt even have to de-clutch and rev, just boot it.

Not that i'd broadside on the public highway, that illegal!!!

Most recent - my mate in his 4 litre Jeep.
Auto.
That he had bought 15 minutes before.
From a breakers - it had no front brakes.
Nutter.

Ive seen a M3 or two do it, never any jap metal though. Weird.
And for whoever asked how difficult a 200 is to drift, I find it easy to get out there, but less forgiving than my old cherokee or sierra. :)

I got a 7and a half tonner sideways by mistake last year, in the wet, ****ed gearbox, got reverse instead of second for a 90degree right hander, crunched it into gear and then one big drift. Shat myself but it must have looked cool, girlfriend wasnt impressed though:rolleyes:

Lol, not as impressive but when I left uni I did a cack delivery job for a while. Ragged 7 shades of shlte out of the White Arrow transits. Was winter so despite little power still easy to get the back end out, especially on muddy country lanes :D

Ok guys,

this is it,

you're all gonna flame me now,

this happened a couple of years ago,

when I had a Ford Explorer,

and a caravan:eek: yeah I know, well it seemed a good idea at the time.

It was the biggest mother f*cker you could get, 6-berth, twin axle, air-con', central heating, the lot.

There I was, king of the road mixing it with the artics, overtaking them all, when............

Oh sh*t, oh sh*t,

Got the biggest snake on while overtaking the second artic on the A12

Jack-kniffed the Explorer and the caravan, took out a section of the central reservation, went across in front of the artic with the Explorer completely sideways at 60mph. All I could see through the passenger window was this dirty great caravan pushing us along.

We ended up on the nearside embankment:o

£17,000 caravan written off:eek:

£4,500 damage to the Explorer:eek:

Luckily no one was hurt:)

I had been towing for 10 years (not all at once) and considered myself to be somewhat experienced, but you never when the unexpected may happen.

We never knew what really caused the accident, but I blame the offside rear Firestone that was shredded after we came to a stop.

Right, that's it you know the truth, I had a caravan.......

I'll get me coat then, it was nice knowing you all.........sob......sniff.....

Nobody will talk to me now........

Hello?

Any one there?

I can definatly agree about the manta's i used to own a Manta gsi put a filter and exhaust on it, It was so mental sideways constantly but like the my 200 could be a real handfull in the wet. Hmm here's something u guys might be able to help me with not long after putting the filter and pipe on my mate was following me, We were going fairly fast when he flashes me to pull over it turns out i was spitting flames and when we looked the entire inside of the backbox was glowing red and i mean bright red.
Ok it was only a cheap peco system with manifold  (look i was young ok) But what would cause this to happen ? it did it on quite a few occasions but i never did get to the bottom of it and for na engine this seemed strange.

Ps. The gsi was the opel version of the gte (import) heh everthing was in german blew a fuse one night took us ages to work out the writing on the fuse cover :D

Ford Explorer?? Pah!
I drove a toyotoise Previa round Lahhdahhn Taahhhhn for a bit and managed to get that sideways a few times .......... :)
It was an auto as well - shifter on the steering column :)
And I learnt my trade in a cherokee jeep - the first time I handbraked it was on the top of a multistory car park, and I *really* didnt know if it was gonna roll
It didnt, and a beautiful relationship was developed :D
