Retro and Sportscar Action Day - Castle Combe - 14th June '08
It's described as 'Hundreds of cars, driving Thousands of laps, in cars worth Millions of pounds. Expect to see anything from the Austin A35 to the latest sportscars'.
Question for the area reps: Do SXOC have a stand organized?
If not, should I try and arrange for one?
I will be booking a track pass anyway, but it would be nice to park within a club stand area.
Insentives are, there is a free 'Giant Classic Cruise' for all club members at lunchtime! I am not sure if this is exclusively for the pre 80's cars though.
There are 'new to track' slots again and the rest of the track time will be split into: Genuine classic cars, Modern classic cars and older and new Sports cars.
Track time in advance - 25GBP per session
Admission in advance - 8GBP

Booked my track tickets today and am in the open session at 1615h. Chose this session so I can run in the same session as my mate in his fully rebuilt and restored Mini Cooper S.
Other slots available were modern classic and modern sports.
Unfortunately this is all on the same day as the SXOC monthly meet at Longwell.
Dont think there will be a sxoc stand there as it is the sxoc weekender all that weekend:nod:

No there isn't.
I think the emphasys is on the older cars, though they have changed the name of the event to retro, rather than classic.
200's are totally welcome though. If you choose to go on track it just means parking in the public area.
There will be the latest sportscars within the paddock as well as the classics.

Crud. Must pay more attention!
If I'd known about this I'd be there instead.:annoyed:
I'm going, have been trying to book tracktime the last two days but the one person who deals with it at CC is off... why can't anyone else in the office do it!?

Ask to speak to Marie.
Mine came through the post today:D

Yes, Maria ( ;) ) has been doing all the bookings for Action Days for donkeys years, but apparently she was off Thurs afternoon and phoned in sick on Friday. My point is, it can't be that hard, why can't anyone else in the office do it? Combe can be a real Mickey Mouse operation sometimes
Anyway, managed to book today, so Jeff and I will be out at 10:30 & 11:30 in our Capri. Watch out, people in expensive classics! :wack:
If I'd known about this I'd be there instead.:annoyed:
Do you go around with your eyes closed :wack:

That's probably why I overlooked it. So used to seeing it, when it came to knowing the important bits like time and place, I realized I hadn't actually read it and it was now too late.:annoyed:
I have now read it properly just to add insult to injury. Still, I'll be having fun on Saturday, and happen to be working Sunday anyway.
And there was me complaining the other day that there wasn't a proper 200 weekend event within the south region.
I have learned my lesson.:whip:
My tickets and track time were waiting when I got in from work yesterday :D
Going over to Jeff's tonight to make sure the Capri is in a fit state to go near a race track :wack:

Warning! Just been sent this:
I thought this sort of thing was illegal now, but apparently it is going ahead.
Hopefully it won't interfere with getting to Castle Combe, but just in case:
I believe it is to do with the Shell drivers strike.

Brilliant fun had too:thumbs::thumbs:
Really good day out and I'm amazed the weather was so good. (Also a bit burned:o)
Got a ton of photo's.
At the time I thought I had some excellent photo's of the 200's I saw on track, but on inspection they are a bit blurey as I was on maximum zoom on a digital camera.
Cars on display pics are much better. Got a lovely pic of a rather nice pair of Bristols!!

So how fast does that mean you didn't time yourself at then? :D
Also, unless this:

is meant to be a replica of the rather rare (1 of) Lola, then it's a fooking aweful GT40 copy :wack::hurl:

Think I might know the reason for his improved times!!!....
Possibly because he disregarded the 'no overtaking on corners' rule this time round!!!:wack::wack:

I was doing woeful 1:36s at Japfest, this time I was doing 1:31s in the early part of the session, we reckon I went faster as it went on but only the first 3 laps got recorded...

1.36's are indeed shamefull  :whip:
1.31's however are where it's at, as you'll probably have dropped at least down to a 1:30 dependant on traffic

Right, take 2.....
I tried responding to this on tuesday and caught a virus while serching for the relevant pics :wack:
I know it's not a real GT40, what I ment was it it ment to be a replica of a Ford GT40 or The Lola mk6GT ;)
This is a Lola MK6gt  (i hope)
http://www.classicdriver.com/upload/images/_uk/11194/img01pop.jpg
I can't find a picture on the web, but there was a one off development of it that was nearly a dead ringer for the GT40.
Only real difference was the roof line and doors which looked like the car you've snapped on the body of the car in my pic
If that's ment to be a Lola though the front and rear end are wrong is all :wack:
And if Ford then that leaves the roof wrong :smash:
I go to too many Classic car races I know :o :smash:
