View Full Version : New drift/handling track

Right guys and gals. As you know I have been looking for a bigger piece of land to take tdsw to the next level, so far without any luck.
Some of you may know that I ran the handling circuit at the last street wars event, with great success.
Lee who organises this has presented me with a nice little opportunity, which has potential for the future.
The handling circuit itself was to small really for drifting, Lee has given me another half the size again, and left me to do the course design.
Mike and I were going to run the next tdsw on Saturday the 7th, but what we have decided to do, Is run this one instead, just as a trial, to see what happens. This is not instead of tdsw, nor is it linked to tdsw. It's something completely new and may only run once. I'm going to call it a handling circuit just to protect my reputation and the reputation of tdsw. However I have a feeling this will be the next step forward, and am really excited about the potential.
The event will Run from 11am until 9pm on the saturday and the same on the Sunday I believe. The organisor and land owners will not have camping or drinking on site, but crash lives a couple of miles away and might be prepared to let people camp in one of his many fields, but he would like numbers beforehand.
The cost for the Handling circuit will be £20 for each day individually, but if you want both days he will do both for £35.
Unlike most of our events this one has several hot food vans, lots of portaloos, half naked women drapped over cars, public liability insurance and emergency services on site.
No doubt you will want more information, please ask away, and give me as much feedback as possible.

Thank you, I was going to say something about the street drifting myself, but didn't want to be rude.
Street drifting isn't cool and more recently I've had more and more people approach me discussing how there drifting has come on leaps and bounds, when I enquire were they practice, I've been informed roundabouts and car parks!
F@*king amatuers, giving the rest of us a bad name.
Slider, long time no speak, I've blown an sr20 up since last time we spoke and now need three new engines/rebuilds, shame you dont live closer.
More info can be found on trampdrift south west, or the street wars website.
also called the dakota raceway. There should be a map on their own site too.
The dates are 7th June and 8th June
It's situated on Smeatharpe runways, nr dunkerswell.
Track design hasn't been decided yet, but will be designed for drifters rather than fwd or 4wd.
I will keep you posted with more info, but this is the first time this will be aimed at drifters, and the first time the track will be big enough. This is a practice day, there will be no 4th gear mangies or 7 car drifts. Unfortunately!
But if this is successful, potentially we could get bigger and bigger.
Also the times will be
Saturday 2pm until 9pm
Sunday 11am until 5pm
Sorry if I misled anyone.

i'm not ready to do any of this ut will be if it becomes a regular thing! would it be one or two cars at a time?etc
semtex 360
22-05-2008, 15:06
At TDSW we have had up to 9 cars on track at any one time, not that Mike would have anything to do with anything so stupid.
I think it'll be one car on track at any one time, certainly for the first event anyhow.
If this event runs as well as I anticipate, who knows for the future.

Well to put it politely, of course people on here do illegal stuff, we just don't discuss it publically - i.e. make it look like the club promotes/encourages it - we don't  :).
For a start we've got insurers reading threads, police too (probably best not to call them 'pigs' again ;) ), and from your own point of view, advertising stuff like 'good roundabouts' isn't a great idea - it may seem like paranoia but it could get you nicked one day.
It's not 'head up arse' at all, just being smart.
Yep, well said John - Id be pretty pissed if I got pulled on the roundabout you mentioned in your first post mate.
driftalot - you cant mention it on Driftworks, so why do you think you can here?

i know and i am sorry for my rant, just got my back up as i was only asking if anybody local knew of anywhere private to practice high speed drifting. Cheers for replying in that manner, much appreciated
driftalot - you cant mention it on Driftworks, so why do you think you can here?
Some clown posted a simillar question on possible spots for the Bristol area on DW - whats worse people replied. So much for keeping a low profile:rolleyes:Police or Chavs.
Problem is that drifting is the next 'neons' or 'sunstrip' for chavs, they just want to get stuck in (on the street) and ruin it.
Its so frustrating thats such a pure type of Japanese car culture is being raped by these types of morons - its only through guys like Semetex putting on practice days and people progressing from them through recognised champioships like BDC and EDC that drifting will gain the credability in British motorsport that it deserves.
I have attended two TDSW events with CH1EF and take my hat off to Semetex, his hard work is clearly paying off as i have seen his events grow considerably in just two visits. I hope to attend again in the future.
Right time to get off my horse now, its just i cant stand peoples enjoyment being ruined by a mindless majority:annoyed:.

Rich, I'm getting all emotional. lol
Thank's buddy, glad you have noticed my hard work.
That's exactly the reason I get involved, to get it of the street, and provide an entrance to getting experience. Some of our drivers are getting there already, and a lot of the others probably could compete if they could be bothered lol.
However,
Can we all move on to talking about this event please, I want this to be a cool couple of skiddy practice days, for little cash. And the main reason my events have always been so good, is the atmosphere and welcoming nature of us all.
Lets not use the post as an opportunity to discuss or complain about other stuff.
Who's coming?

Are helmets required?

Hi buddy I would have a look at the Street Wars website, also called the dakota raceway. All the information should be on there to answer all your questions.
Just quickly though, unlike tdsw that I run on luck and anything goes this is a lot more organised and there are rules.
Helmets are definate, you need to show your licence and sign a disclaimer when you sign in and pay. Some helmets are there to borrow, but they are limited and the drag racing that takes place at the same time uses most of them.
I believe pit crew and friends would be classed as spectators and would have to pay a fiver or something, but dont quote me on this.
Steerfromtherear who organises tdsw with me has got someone with a tyre van, but again, if you refer to trampdrift there is a lot more info on there and you can pm mike yourself and enquire.
Also, there is no maximum number of cars at this event, that's why I got involved, and when I ran it the last time, although it wasn't aimed specifically at drifters there were gaps of an hour with no cars on the circuit. I am aware that there will be a lot more people at this one but have a team of trampdrift volunteers and some skills in reducing queue times. I dont forsee queue times being a problem.
The event is about 15 minutes from Taunton, but again the streetwars website has maps on there with more specific details.

semtex 360

I'm heading up to the track tonight to check out if the new design will work ok, I'm also going to the camping area nearby to set up the fire, toilet, camping and parking area.
I'll confirm the address for the camping tomorrow, and put up a map or directions to everything at the same time.
So the design hasn't been confirmed yet, but should be tonight. I will be aiming it at rwd cars. The surface is not great, but I've drifted on worse.

Holy shit, thats a lot of hp per ton bro. I drifted my 100cc gokart at the last trampdrift after blowing up "another" 180sx. The crowd loved it and twinning with a bmw looks very different 1" of the floor.
I'd personally love to see it up there, And I will have a chat with Lee for you.
If you read the rules on the street wars website, it will tell you about scrutineering, this really involves checking nothing is leaking, nothing is loose etc. Common sense really.
And when I enquired about bringing my go kart to the last one, my biggest problem was lack of clutch. Mine was a push and go, wereas I'd assume yours would have a clutch, therefore you wouldn't need a mate to carry you to the start line.
I'll let you know later, but If I get sidetracked my number is 07504817749

Oh dear, the numbers look dissappointing.
I could go on for ages saying I'm dissappointed, But I wont.
The track will be worth the hassle, checked the area out with Crash last night, lots of second gear stuff, just like everyone wanted.
Lee has looked at a couple of track designs and only had an issue with one minor bit. This has been rectified and I'm waiting on a confirmation phone call this morning.
The camping area is looking good, Crash has sorted a fire, loo, bins and created lots of parking.
and the bikini contest will be near the handling circuit !
I will let you know on the day the location of the camping as we dont want a load of chavs turning up crashing it. It would probably take me 20 minutes to remove a 100 chavs, and we dont want that, do we?
Come on the weekend!
Cant wait now.

Yes it has everything on it, its basically an R6 welded on a go kart frame, the clutch is like a paddle clutch and is on the sterring wheel, its got the original bike clocks (that rev to 18k ) its got the ignition for the keys, kill switch the whole lot, and is extremely safe!, till you put your foot down lol
We wouldnt be able to make it to this one you are organising as its being stripped down and painted up but we will be 150% there next time, il get some pics up for you guys too soon
