Am I alone with this view?

It was in that copper/bronze colour like in the press shots.

Looked a bit like a hunched TT.

Mmmm........

PS I didn't think they were over here yet

lol @ Andy :D

But yeah Ripper, I am totally unimpressed with the styling of it - they blatantly want the Zed to be an Audi

Unusually Ripper, I don't agree with you. I think it looks great. There's an imported on in my town and I see it quite often. Will make a nice replacement for my 200 in a few years time I reckon, probably when they're just about to be discontinued and Nissan are selling new ones off cheap :)

I think it's orrid, Nissans attempt to try and steal some of the Audi TT/Boxster market rather than making something a bit special.

Vez

Apparently it is a bit special...

One fo the car mags I read stated "its got more feedback through the gearstick than the entirity of an Audi TT"

And as for boxster market, Dont think its aimed there somehow, boxster lives in a market all by itself!

Yep it looks shit IMHO, I just hope Nissan aren't going to use it as the basis for a new Skyline :(

I dare say all the twats that are currently driving around in TT's are placing their orders.....

3.5 V6 and 250 horses is a good start.

As they say 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'.

Therefore I can categorically say that my Punto should be hanging up in the Tate Modern:D :D :D :D :D

I don't think many TT owners will be queing up for 350s.

The 350 may look like a TT but it's still a nissan and one thing nissan have never been able to do is sell sports cars. No matter how good a nissan sports car is, it gets overlooked purely because of badge snobbery.

in 1985 the Silvia S12 was better than any Golf GTi but nobody bought it.

In 1989 the 200sx was by far the best performance coupe around.... but nobody bought it.

The 300ZX was faster than anything in it's class in 1990..... but nobody bought it....

The 350, it's better in every way than the TT but i'll assure you that they'll never sell as many 350s as they have TTs.

<rant mode>

And another thing,

Nissan should start giving their cars real names and not just numbers. Ok the numbers may mean something to us enthusiasts but they mean nothing to joe punter. When people ask what i drive... i just say "a nissan (insert random number)"

People go "oooh... a TT/boxter". Nobody ever goes "ooooh... a 200/240/260/280/300/350". The only nissan sports car that people remember the name of is the Skyline. The only one with a real name!!!

Yeah, I just refer to mine as a Silvia to non car enthusiasts.

Nissan compared to Audi is like wearing Asda value jeans instead of Levis - that is, in the mind of the hairdresser brigade...

Errrm... Primera, Micra, Almera, Sunny, Silvia, Skyline - just the 100nx, the 200sx, and the 300zx have number designations. Doesn't seem to do Audi, BMW, Merc, Peugeout, Citroen and Saab any harm - and none of them have named cars  Not sure what my point is, other than trying to second guess the consumers must be a nightmare for marketing people!

That's ok when Nissan give it a half decent name.. You should feel sorry for us 300 owners with Imports;

-"What do you drive?"
"A Nissan Fairlady"
(cue the homosexual jokes, innuendos and laughter)..

:D:D

I'm refering to nissan sports cars.

Porsche/Audi/Saab/BMW/Mercedes get away with numbers because they are considered "prestige marques"... ie.. badge snobbery. You don't have to mention the number when you say what you drive.

As for Peugeot and Citroen.... telling folk you drive a french hatchback isn't going to impress anyone...regardless of what number you put after it :D

partly badge snobbery, partly cos the top models for BMW have "M" and the "911" is probably the most established car model number (given that they've essentially used the same model designation for about 50 years).

When I get asked what I drive I say 'a Punto'.

If they know I've got the 200 I always say I've got a '1.8 Nissan'.

If they push it a bit and ask what it'll do I then say 'it's quicker than whatever you've got'.

Not very often I'm wrong!:p

The press seem to love it tho. Seems strange considering it's a Nissan.

Selling well too. All the uk quota (400ish) sold in an hour:eek:

according to auto express (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/ae_news_story.php?id=35047), think its nearer 290bhp than 250 though.

I thought the front was bad enough (keeps reminding me of the Citreon C3), but the back  , somebody really lost the plot when they designed it ...

Nissan seem to be reverting into their routine of "look at current Western cars, change the design so it's a bit more boring and anonymous, and rebadge as Nissan"

For example - VW Beetle and Ford Ka = New Micra
Citroen C5 = New Primera

God knows what they are planning to base the S16 on - the last we heard it looked like it was going to be a FWD, NA cabriolet, reminscent of the Peugeot 206CC

I really hope they don't fcuk up the Skyline, as at one point I would like to own a new one - however by the time I get hold of one it'll probably have become a 7 seater mpv with an electric motor, based on the Espace :(

They do have real names in Japan don't they? The 200 is Silvia and the 300 is Fairlady Z, and the Skyline is, well, Skyline :D

marty_t3

And that'll be why silvias, fairlady's and skylines are more popular in Japan than they are here (despite being the exact same car)

I agree. Although Renault and Peugeot seem to have done ok :)

marty_t3
20-03-2003, 09:54
But again, Renault and Peugeot don't make sports cars. Sports cars need real names unless they have a 'prestige' manufacturer. (2 exceptions i can think of though, the MR2 and VX220)

Maybe there's just a stigma about owning a Nissan??

Still, I bet the 350 would sell better if they gave it a decent name (and not girly names like Silvia and Fairlady ;) )

I really like em, and I'm hoping to replace the 2***** with one (albeit not for a couple a years yet!!!) 3.5 V6 with 250bhp to start does sound very tempting, and lest us not forget, if we were all primarily concerned with how our car's look in the eyes of others we wouldn't own 2*****'s. The important thing is how the bugger drives, and by all accounts the 350 does that pretty well. Sure it looks like a TT, but so what, I quite like the shape of TT's, although I would never own one!

Just my 2 quids worth.

Ta
