View Full Version : Importer for VVT Unit?
Does anyone know of an importer for a VVT Unit. I met with Phil at KP Motors and he said to try RDH but nothing comes up on Google under this name, I've tried RHD, RDH auto etc:confused:

RHDJapan ?.
I've just sent them an e-mail about the vvt and to register on their site:thumbs:
Just had a look and they want £248 delivered for the VVT Sprocket and The VVT solonoid is £58. If your unfortunate enough to get stung with duty etc too - your looking at over £350+ for both.
Ouch!

is that the piece that makes our engines not sound like diesels or like old ford escorts which have a loud tapping sound ?
Had an e-mail from RDH saying they can supply any part but need the part number, Phil said there was only one vvt available for the s14 so why the part number? but if anyone has the number I'd be grateful. Butuz, did you get the price from their web site as I coudn't find it on there and is it best to put on a new solonoid with the vvt.
I know it's going to be expensive but the loud "tappet" noise is ridiculous and the performance is down:(
VVT rattle usually dissapears as soon as you rev it whilst in hear - if the rattle stays with you at all revs - it could be something else?!!!

Although the performance seems down she's smooth on the open road, the loud tapping noise is only there on tick over-low revs. The usual comments from people are "you haven't sorted your sprockety thing out then"

That don't sound like vvt  vvt is normally a trrrkkk sound for about 3 to 5 seconds when pulling off in first!
If its extreme i think it can go on for a while, but not on tickover!
Agreed. Before you spend £300+ on VVT stuff take it somewhere to have it looked at - it could be something like a sticky hydraulic valve lifter?

Another vote for second opinion
I have not yet heard NVCS (proper name for what you are calling VVT) rattle on idle.
It could be a sticky lifter as Butuz has already mentioned.
A month or so back a garage near to my work thought it might be a sticking valve/lifter so I put valve cleaner additive in and ran it for a few days then had the engine flushed and refilled with a top synthetic oil. On picking the car up from the garage she sounded sweet but half an hour later it was back to the loud tapping?
Phil at KP Motors suggested the NVCS unit but I don't really want to shell out £300+fitting to have the same problem.
The sound that Paul descibes is the same as when I first had the car, a slight "rasping" sound when lifting the clutch in first gear. When Simon did some other work on her back last year he put a second hand NVCS unit on and the engine sounded fine.
The tapping does seem to be coming from the top of the engine. She's done 70k and the timing belt was changed at 50k as a garage in Barry said that was the original problem, although it wasn't (wasted money) Any idea's where to go from here:confused:

I have heard a few cases now, where the 'VVT rattle' has got worse, and rattles badly at a steady idle. Sounds like a diesel Transit and is not pleasant.
The car won't break down, it just sounds terrible.
For diagnosis, if the car is in gear, and revs above 1100rpm, the noise should disappear.
If the noise is still there under any kind of acceleration, it's not VVT, it's something else.
The fix is the same, a new or better sprocket, and the noise will start to reappear afterwards. Whether that's 1000 or 100000 miles later, nobody knows.
