Cos it will be a mission to get a new one!

Went into halfords to get a front square one made up, my car sat out side, surly proof that i have that reg number, but would they sell me one? hell no!

Not having a photocard driveing licence, i have to take in with me:

V5,
Passport and,
a utilities bill.

I WANT A NUMBER PLATE, NOT A BANK LOAN!

I cannot see how they cannot give you a number plate when the car is sat infront of them, with same plate......surly, even if i have stolen it, makeing another plate wont help me....cos i already have a set!

Couls also make getting plates from places like Mj Designs or GTGraphix a bit tricky...........

fcuk halfrauds and just go to your local motorist discount stores - I wouldn't expect them to have a problem with it

Trouble is its da law, which they will be breaking if they give me a plate without me giving those details, its not a halfords thing, its a DVLA/Gov thing!

Which is why i can see companies like Mj and Gt having major problems......especialy time scale wise, sending details etc to them which many people wont want to do, i dont fancy sending my details off to people!

Q8 garages usually do it no fuss

Whether it's law or not I'd imagine most of the motorist discount places arry was refering to probably wouldn't give a toss. Stick on plate have supposedly been illegal for ages and that was according to the guy that sold me mine no questions asked! :D

Halfrauds probably only bother about it cos their too big to do anything 'dodgy'.

Pretty sure you can get a plate saying what ever you want, in any size, shape or font as long as you promise it's for 'show use only' ;)

Go to Fancy Plates (http://www.fancyplates.com). They're cheap, you can have the style you want (you don't have to have the plate makers details on the bottom) and they delivered mine next day.

WhenI got mine in November they were the same price as you'd pay at your local motorfactors (ie less than Halfrauds) plus p&p.

The law changed on 1st Jan 2003, that you now require proof of ownership.

i believed u its been pretty well advertised in post offices and halfrauds and motor factors, there is a way of bending the rules
though. if u dont have the correct spacing on the plates, i.e. mine. then its not classed as an official number plate:D :D

What the hell?

I got plates front and back made up at Halfords in Rochdale, perhaps 6 weeks ago or so, not long before I traded the S13 in. I just walked in, asked from them, and they made them for me?

Well i got me new front plate last night, a nice square one, looks loads better than the black brick, may look at getting a smaller
"not quite so legal" one as the standard ones are a tad big.

Had to give halfords my V5, which they got the plate number from and prooves i have a right to have that plate, my passport, prooving who i am.........names on v5 and pp have to match obviously.....and a utilities bill to proove i live at the address on the V5......after 10 min of those being studied he says, "ok give me 10 mins...go for a wander round the store"

Why the hell would i want to wander round halfords?

Still makes me laugh they are trying to sell a pioneer head unit for £600 that you can get out of a certain unmentionable mag for £350 :D (ooooooooo but free fitting  )

Kev
18-03-2003, 15:32
Yeah i got my pana r/c stereo+8 disk changer bout 3 yeas ago out of a mag for £235
Noticed about a year and a bit ago, they wetre selling the head unit alone for £200, shocking!!!

i dont usually agree with much the government does, but the new law on needing proof of ownership of vehicle b4 a shop does plates 4 u is a good un, BECAUSE scumbag kids and car thieves are literally having a field day 'ringing' cars - first stealing a car, whipping off the vins and then driving around looking for an identical car 2 the one they stole so they can use the number 2 'ring' their stolen car. Hopefully this new law, will combat the ringing bastards.....did u know that if the bastards get done on a speed camera, or even drive off for petrol without paying in a ringed car, then its the poor bastard who's number plate details they stole who gets the fine or the coppers round! Sick innit?!

are you real ????? . it takes about 10 seconds to nick a pair of number plates !!!!!!!!!!!! and about 10 hours to get legal ones made !!!!!!!!!!

But if you've had your plates nicked then you and the old bill will be aware somebody is probably driving around with duff plates, if however they buy them, you and the old bill would be unaware.

I think it can be said they hae got a bit too far with this one.....

Once again legislation has been put in place which hasnt been thought out properly.....

Surly the fact i have the car, with plates already on it, sat in the car park, means that making another identical plate cannot possibly make any given situation worse, cos i already have a set anyway.

Also, it has been shown in this thread that you can get plate from loads of places with out this hassle, which will make the whole system fall flat on its face.......its like having to pay or not pay for your tax disk depending on where you went. There is no point having this new legislation if you cant enforce it for eveyone, other wise i get the hassle of extracting a plate from halfords, while jonny car theife just pops along to his local car shop and picks a plate in seconds.......see my point?

Yeah, halfords aren't now allowed to sell anything thats not road legal...
found this out yesterday when asking for black lense tinter... the chap said "nah mate, we dont sell anything that you cant use on the road, new regulations"

they sold neons?!!!
