Anyone owned one b4?
Went with a mate to buy one today.
Its an H plate 2.0 16v GT (im sure they all are, apert from the 4's)

Having been speaking to me all that time he now wants to know wat he can do to it, mod wise.
Suggestions pls cos it seemed pretty bloody slow.
And wat size of wheels will it take without being silly?

I have been known to post something useful :)

At least I was honest. You haven't had the finest response to your query so I thought I'd explain my lack of input.:D

Oh, and Scrabble is my way of saying 'what's the point in modifying a car that can't keep it's driven wheels on the ground when standard'.

I have 58 horses chomping at the bit in my Punto and that is somewhat Scrabbli-esque at the best of times.

I really don't have much time for FWD Bouncy Rubbish: Does it show? :D :D :D

celicas can be quite fast cars, my best friend owns a GT4

if your friend wants to mod it up, start with replaces the stock air filter and fit a rampod of decent size on it... then head to the exhaust, a 2 1/2 inch usually does the trick....

wheels wise, dont go any larger than 15'' depending on the style u want, otherwise they can look really 'ricey'

hope thats helped

I used to drive an MR2 Mk II which shares the engine with the Celica GT (3S-GE) It knocks out about 160ish bhp. Things to mod are usual sort of stuff, filter, exhaust, plugs etc....
There was a problem that a lot on the IMOC board found with the dizzy caps. The contacts wear and corrode which obviously isn't too clever. There was a chap on the board, Paul Port IIRC who used to produce new caps with special contacts which solved the problem. If it hasn't already been done I'd replace HT leads etc with Toyota ones, seem to be about the best.
As for the rest, I havent a clue as it was as far from the MR2 as possible.
Just re-reading your post about the car being slow....check that it hasn't got the 3S-FE engine in it. That was taken from the Camry and was there *economical* engine. Only produced 119bhp!!
If you want to go onto the IMOC board its www.imoc.co.uk nice buch of folk on there, sure someone will point you in the right direction.

HTH
Mick.

The one I was in seemed slow as well, probably should be as quick as a hot hatch or similar. 0-60 should be around 8 seconds at a complete guess.

Advice for tuning - save up for a gt4 :p

I have a mate with a 93 2.0 GT. He had replacement cams, filter, exhaust and chip. He reckoned he has about 270hp but i think he was just "adding up the bits" to get that figure. My old S13 with it's rattly big ends and stock i/c would have p155ed all over it even after he had the mods done. Saying that... he had it on 17s with a GT4 wing and some evil looking jap bodykit on it so it looked the pups nuts. For FWD it did handle really well too (once it stopped wheel spinning).

I have another mate with a Carlos Sainz GT4 and it is bloody quick. It would have probably given my old scoob a bit of a fright. I'd reckon a stock GT4 would match a moderately tuned S13 on the straights and leave it for dead on the twisties (despite it's weight).

As Dunc already said..... don't bother modding a GT. Spend the cash on a GT4. At the end of the day it'll always be the quicker car.
