View Full Version : now breaking H plate pre-facelift green/grey/black

Guys and Gals.
I've now got KennethM/Kenny200SX car in my Driveway.
I got it as I first thought it would help my son and I get to know more about 2 hundies and learn how to get some repairs done without paying through the nose for a mechanic to do all the work.
I've posted a Poll to see what everyone's opinion is for what I should do with it.
I originally thought about getting a turbo and anything else it needed to get through the MOT and move it on but then thought I would probably end it getting more if I broke it.
It has a few mods (Superchip, Boost Gauge, K&N, Goose, DV from Falkland Performance, 16 inch alloys) and a decent Serv. Hist with a few receipts from Kenny (£840 from Falkland alone)
The only thing is I am not great with car's and don't want to end it fecking it completely.
All opinions greatly appreciated.
Another point to note is that my Clutch/Gearbox is getting noisier by the day amd I might think about the new Clutch and decent Gearbox in Kenny's to go into mine.
At least it's good to have a number of options !!!
TOO LATE, ITS BREAKING.
ALL BITS AVAILABLE.
Alan, do as u originally intended, work on it with ur son, its the best way to find out about them and "train urself up".
The reason i know a wee bit about them now is cos ive spent the last year or so re-building just about everything on mine.
How old is ur son Alan, cos u could always build it with him, for him.
Ull find peeps are alot less likely to damage a car they have spent hours slaving over.
Anyway, im only down the M8 if ur needing a hand, and rumor has it that Martin (dobergoose) is quite handy with a spanner.

Cheers Kev/Martin
My son is only 14 but willing to learn and help.
I'm not sure what I am going to do just now.
I'll take it for a MOT and see what damage is reported, then decide if I break it or repair it.
I will more than likely swap bits between it and my car in any case to keep me on the road.
Thanks
Alan
I've got a couple of questions before I vote (I never make anthing easy do I  ) :
1. How much did you pay for it? (To judge how much profit you'll make breaking it)
2. Whats all wrong with it? Just the turbo and whatever the MOT discovers?
Dunc.
Also, could you not use it as a track car (knockhill, crail) so both you and you're kid can drive it and get the benifits of any work done?

I've got a couple of questions before I vote (I never make anthing easy do I  ) :

Got it quite cheap. I Thought it was a bargain considering what I got with the car. The book price for trade is £650 and "good" is £1200 and that is for a completely standard car.
2. Whats all wrong with it? Just the turbo and whatever the MOT discovers?
ASAIK Just the Turbo. Possible rear pads although I have them spare anyway.
There is also the fact that it seems to kill turbos (Kenny had another second hand T25 installed last September and it lasted 10 days !!)
It has a Goose, Superchip, Bleedvalve, DV, 16 inch Alloys, CD Tuner, 6 Disc Multichanger (Pioneer), Kenwood 200w Subs in the rear parcel shelf, new clutch etc.
Also, could you not use it as a track car (knockhill, crail) so both you and you're kid can drive it and get the benifits of any work done?
My wife would go mad having another car permanently in the drive so I'm afraid that's out of the question.
Cheers

I also have to admit to swapping parcel shelf's with mine already. So I now have the Kenwoods 200w speakers on my car.
I am swapping interiors at the moment as Kenny's was slightly better than mine.
I have swapped the Pioneer Head Unit and 6 Disc Multi-Changer for a Blaupunkt CD Tuner and 6 Disc-Multi-Changer from a Renault (I just have to get the leads for the Renault one !!). I am going to install a spare Sony Changer compat. Radio cassette in for now.
I will be swapping the drilled and grooved Front discs with mine soon (My discs are fine but I like the look of the grooved and drilled ones).
My car needs a clutch or possible gearbox so might swap these depending on the cost a new one and effort involved in the swap.
The tyres are good on the rears and virtually brand new on the front (Toyo Proxes)
It does take an eternity to start when cold which I will have to investigate further.
I've now voted: swap bits to yours then break. :)
Sounds like you've started doing this already! Plus if you're selling the tuning bits they sell fast as feck on this board!
Alan, I might be interested in the complete car. Does it only need a turbo? Does it run?
How much would you sell it for?
Graham
Gee, you can have mine if you want? Same situation, dodgey turbo (not blown, still runs) and still got about 1/2 a year MOT.
Are you looking for a trackay drift car to complement your gtir?
Dunc.
Dunc, I may well take you up on that offer!
I am looking into this at the mo as I can insure a 2***** as a classic car and use it for trackdays cause I use the GTiR as my everyday car.
I just need to pay off the rest of my holiday first.
How much would you be wanting for it?

Yes the car runs. It takes a little time starting from cold but is fine once going. I will be taking it for an MOT this weekend to see what is required to get it back on the road. It will need a Turbo although I am just finalizing a purchase this week. Kenny got a replacement T25 from Steve Carter last September and got it fitted by his local garage but apparently it only lasted 10 days until it there was no boost. I have a good Service History with it and receipts going back from when Kenny purchased it.
All over condition is good.
Alan
Alan, Dunc,
Both myself and a friend are looking for S13's so you both might get them sold.
What is the rust like on both? Is it worse than the norm?

I will take some pics tonight and post them up tomorrow.
No tailgate rust that I can see. Slight rust on rear wheel-arches although nothing serious.
Car is as follows:
H Reg Green / Grey&Black
Manual
Just under 100k
Air-con
Superchip (Falkland Performance)
Bleed Valve (Falkland Performance)
Turbo side DV and Pipe (DV - Demon Tweeks)
Boost Gauge (30 PSI) (Falkland Performance)
[The FP receipt is for over £840 back in 2001)
16 inch alloys (2 Toyo Proxies with less than 3k on front, Goodyear on Rears with good tread)
K&N
S/H although not 100% complete. Receipts since 2001 from when Kenny owned the car. New clutch in Nov 2001.
Cheers
Alan
Gee,
If Alan's is going to have a full years MOT on it, you'd be better off with that. The only good thing I've got going for mine is the decent engine and a few mods (FMIC, K&N, Chip, boost guage etc). Like I said, mine passed an MOT (boot needed welded up and jacking points as well) a while back but I wouldn't recommend it as everyday transport, although I used it for this. It's more suited to being used just for trackdays like I'm going to use it for, I'm a bit short on storage space just now though. I was thinking about selling to someone to let them break it for spares but TBH its a bit of a waste to break a car that runs fine except for a turbo thats on its way out.
Dunc.
Dunc,
I will be looking for a trackday S13 but my friend want's an everyday one.
Yours sounds perfect for a trackday mota especially when I already have a spare engine and clutch!
I think my friend would be really interested in Alans as well.
Are you both going to be at the RR meet?

Assuming my clutch holds out I'll be at the RR at Star.

If you decide to let your mate get Alan's one and are still after one for yourself for track action then give me shout. I'll PM you my phone no. if you want to speak about it? I might be at the meet to deliver Kev's LSD (diff! ), unless you'd be interested in buying that as well?
Dunc.
Alan, cheers for the pics! The bodywork looks in good condition.
Let me know how you get on with the turbo and the MOT cause either my friend or myself would be really interested in it.
Dunc,
If my friend buys Alan's 2***** then I'll give you a shout about yours.
Cheers

Alan, cheers for the pics! The bodywork looks in good condition.
Only the rear wheel arches are a slight problem. (Apart the car needing a wash. I'm in the middle of building a garage so there's a lot of muck around. !!) I'll try and get better pictures in better light at the weekend.
Let me know how you get on with the turbo and the MOT cause either my friend or myself would be really interested in it.
I will try and get it for an MOT this weekend and it looks as though it will be next week before I get a Turbo.
Cheers

Took car for MOT this morning.
It has failed. :(
Pic of the failure sheet attached.
Basically:
Both Outer Sills holed to excess within 30cm of suspension
(2 x new sills required ?)
Front Discs pitted on inside edge
(Cause it's been lying a while ? Been advised they will clean up)
O/S/R Disc pitted to excess
(New Rear Brake Discs required)
O/S Sill holed at Seat Belt mount area
(What is needed here ??)
O/S Sill holed at Seat mounting area
(What is needed here ??)
What to do now : Break, Repair or Move it on as is ???
The reason I say to move it on as is is I'm not a mechanic or know anything about welding/spraying etc so would be happy getting some money for it.
Comments very much appreciated.
Alan i removed ur attachment cos it has ur vin no and reg on it mate.
id say buy urself a welder and have a try urself.
Ull pick up a set of rear disks pretty cheap from someone breaking their car.

Thanks.
Didn't think that someone would be so underhand as to use the Vin and Reg but you never know.
I have edited and removed both VIN and Reg from failure doc and re-attached in this reply.
I have been told by my m8 that id I get the sills he will weld them in and do the necessary spraying for £25 a side.
I'll get a pair of rear discs and put the new ones on my motor and swap mine onto the spare car. That way I am gaining from the deal too.
Any ideas on where to get sills in my area ?
Cheers

Need to get a couple of centre caps for the front.
New sills are only available from Nissan and are around £110 per side.
Id just get some metal plate, bout £10 and cut it to the size needed, infact, thats exactly wat i did do.
btw, peeps on here may be ok, but this bb is available for anyone to view Alan.

Ummm. To repair and sell on, huh? This 200 was a catagory B insurance loss in 10/2000. This means it suffered extensive damage. The bodyshell should have been crushed. The vehicle should not be on the road. This means you shouldn't even have the car in your possesion.: "
Anyone looking for some decent spares ?

Yeah, I was a bit shocked to say the least if it proves correct.
I have emailed and PM'd Kenny for his thoughts as he was obviously driving about since 10/2000 with his wife and kids in a dodgy motor.

Seems as though the Turbo I was buying from Tonnie on Sunday is going to be a waste of time and money aswell.
Story of everything just now I suppose.

Your more than welcome to it as I will not need it.
Tonnie agreed on £60 and he's bringing it to Star on Sunday.
I've sent a PM to Tonnie regarding the position but not had a reply yet.
Sounds like we have a plan that keeps everyone happy then :)
Do you want me to send Tonnie a PM before he sells it to someone else ?

It looks as though Tonnie has now got a free Turbo.
He has advised me that it is OK for me not to get it.
I have said I think it would be best to hold an RR Auction as it looks as though the highest bidder between Kev, Martin and Dunc will end up getting it.
It might let the day pass a little quicker and keep us entertained eh ? :p :D

Looking at the V5 etc the VIN number matches the Engine compartment. It also matches the Service History book (from new). Kenny appeared to buy the car in 09/2000 so therefore I can only assume there is a mistake here as the Cat B Insurance loss was in 10/2000.
I also have an MOT certificate from 08/12/2000 @84k miles.
I also can't understand why, if the car was a Cat B write-off while in Kenny's possession he would commence all the modding (£830 alone from Falkland Performace for the Superchip etc) in 01/2001.
As said I am awaiting information from Kenny before deciding what to do.

Kev, saw a post by Johnny Crossland in this thread:
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37604
I understand this to mean that he gets better fuel economy with the pre-cat ECU, which kinda makes sense seeing as my motor is essentially that now (i.e. de-catted).
Also thought that a spare ECU would come in handy when I get a chip in the not too distant future (after I've got a FMIC).
And you thought I didn't have the bug yet....... :D .

Kenny bought the car on 30/09/2000.
Accident (Forgot about it !!) in 10/2000.
Written off (Insurance paid out over 3k) as the Cat B Insurance loss in 10/2000.
Paperwork on Insurance and Accident LOST !!!
Kenny bought it back (£450)
Garage that other party knew from accident was involved in repaired the car.
Back on the Road (MOT'd 08/12/2000 @ 84k)
I will obviously be breaking it now once I have had time to calm down.
I am following things up elsewhere though
