Can anyone shed a little light on how these work? What do i need, to be able to send money to someone?
The other person is a friend in the USA and this seems like the best way to send money.. But i could be wrong, anyone else got suggestions on how i can get money to him?
Thanks

Paypal is the best way, but bank transfers are okay, u end up paying about £20 for the privelige tho.
U need his bank name, his bank address, his account number and his sort code (or equivelent)

It doesn't necessarily cost anything. I just transferred some cash from my account to another without charge. Dunno about across the Atlantic though...check with you bank.
EDIT: actually I just remembered tranferring cash to Hong Kong...I needed to go into the bank with ID, fill out some forms and then had to pay about £15. There's also some sort of currency conversion charge but you can specify they pay at their end :). Couldn't do this over the phone though.

It costs a little to wire transfer but not a lot, can't remember the exact figure now though.
Takes about 15-20 mins to get it sorted so be aware...
I had to transfer some money to my brother in Turkey 2 years ago.............went into the bank and said 'I would like to transfer some money to my brothers account in turkey please'
Lady: 'certainly Sir, how much?'
Me: 'about 200'
Lady: '£200 pounds sir?'
Me: 'No, £200,000 thanks very much..'
Her face was a picture....it was only a little high street jobby....... :D
