View Full Version : Jae - 2008
Firstly a big thank you to Bubble on the SOC forum as I've shamelessly copied his write up of the JAE pre event meeting Mark, Dani and I went to a little while back...
The event is mainly being organised this year by Fuggles, Andy Barnes and Glen. Most of you probably know that Claire (Booty Licious) has regretfully had to step down from her previous role of jointly organising JAE with Fuggles.
JAE will be very different this year compared to the bland and soulless EOE showground of the previous two years at Peterborough. The aim is to recapture the character of Billing and then some. Mersea Island is a unique place and full of character. The Island is accessed by a causeway, which does flood at a high spring tide, but is only impassable for half an hour or so, all part of the fun
http://media3.dropshots.com/photos/127158/20080210/131349.jpg
Mersea Outdoors is found down a couple of windy lanes and is right next to the sea, with a sea wall at the front of the site and a gentle slope down to the back of the camp.
http://media5.dropshots.com/photos/127158/20080210/133253.jpg
There will be a speedboat towing a banana etc, for rides in the sea and if we want to have a beach party untill the early hours, then that is fine. Bring some wood and we can have a huge beach bonfire too. The only condition being that we cannot burn their new fence
http://media5.dropshots.com/photos/127158/20080210/133325.jpg
There is a purpose built new slipway down to the beach, so there is easy access. Talking of access, if there are any Blue badge holders, or any one with special needs, there are a limited amount of log cabins on site for accomodation. Applications should be made directly to Fuggles for these.
http://media3.dropshots.com/photos/127158/20080210/133758.jpg
This is a view with the sea wall behind me. Where you can see the Green & Yellow portable light units, our club stand will be in that area. It is close to the sea wall, but not down the bottom of the site, which could become boggy if it rains. Having said that, the site is both council run and owned and they have paid attention to drainage issues, so there shouldn't be a problem.
http://media5.dropshots.com/photos/127158/20080210/133214.jpg
Behind the 5-aside football pitch you can see some of the log cabins. Apart from inter-club football competitions, there are planned "It's a knock-out" and "Takeishie Castle" type events, as well as climbing frames, zip wires and childrens play areas etc.
There will be a covered trade stand area, as well as outdoor trade stands. Food vending vans will be varied and there will not be charging £5 for burgers like at Peterborough either. One of the halls doubles up as a canteen with proper kitchens and dinner ladies - just like school
Breakfasts are planned at just £2.50, so no need to go hungry and it will be a good chance to socialise with others and start the day off right. Evening meals will be catered for too, with a chance to sit down and recharge your batteries ready for the evenings entertainment, which could well last untill dawn
One hall will be decked out in a Japanese theme and will be serving both hot and cold Saki etc. There will be a disco, fireworks and even possibly kareoki too
During the day time there will be "Show & Shine" for those that like to show off their pride and joys in the judging arena. There will be trophies for various categories of car and club stand etc. There is planned a competition between "Jap Performance" and "Banzai" magazines to determine which is the best mag.........somebody mentioned mud wrestling between the ladies (don't think they have been told yet though)
There will be so much going on this year that the three days just wont seem enough and will fly by. IF it should rain, then there is no need to sit in your tent feeling glum and thinking should I go home. There are indoor events in the halls to keep you amused
Camping this year will be directly behind each club stand, so you can sleep within easy reach of your car and keep an eye on it. If you have children and need some where quieter, there is an additional area over on one side with an 11.00pm curfew for loud noise.
JAE may be a bit further than some would have liked to travel this year, but I am sure that if you make the effort and drive that extra hour further than Peterborough, you will thoroughly enjoy it.
That gives you all a good idea of what JAE is goign to look like this year, we are going to endeavour to get the usual SXOC JAE stuff in place too.
I will be posting up threads for stand space and more info on specific SXOC JAE bits in the near future but in the meantime I would like to get a rough idea of numbers of people who would like;
A) SXOC club stand space for their 200
B) Camping sapce next to the club stand
So we can book up the correct sized slot.
Please vote in the poll above for what you would like, there won't be any names, it's just a straw poll to assist me in booking the right sized slot
Alg ;)

Wasnt you the one jumping up and down telling us to get our fingers out our arses and sort some events as you was really excited and wanted to attend them all

Just a tip here, should this happen again, but in these circumstances it took me a few minutes to realise that it's just as effective to hold on to your tent from the inside, you still have the same weight holding the same structure, but with the added bonus you stay dry!!:nod::D

Didn't someone do just that and it somehow ended up with them getting banned from SXOC?
LOL, no the reason he got banned was not because he was trying to hold a tent down
Didn't someone do just that and it somehow ended up with them getting banned from SXOC?
So one of the SXOC rules is that in the event of a strong storm during a club weekend you have to hold onto your tent from outside and get wet

Some of us will be importing adequate supplies of beer from Yorkshire on the way in. You can't get a decent pint in Essex whether the causeway's flooded or not.
