Following on from the thread about video files on the PS3....
Is it possible to stream video from a PC to a Wii to view on the TV? I have the laptop and Wii both connect to the wireless router and I can access the internet from the Wii. I would like to be able to watch thinks like BBC iplayer etc on the TV without having to get the leads etc out for the laptop and plug into the TV. I was hoping that by connecting the Wii to the internet I could do it that way but it doesn't work via the Opera interface which the Wii uses. I have downloaded a program called Wii video 9 but that appears to convert AVI fiels which can then be put onto an SD card and played that way, I want to do it wirelessly.
Anyone managed this or know how to do it (or even if its possible!)

Thanks guys!:sxoc:

You'll be lucky :wack:

Must admit, I thought it might not be possible.
At least if I know I can stop looking around for something that doesn't exist.

Thanks.

it is possible, with out any hacking etc,

its a bit of a get around, but download the opera browser on to your Wii,

download Winamp for your PC and winamp remote, set the remote access up and also your media liburaries for all your music and video

go back to your Wii and go to the winamp remote websiter and sign in, and all your media will be avaliable playable in the opera browser, plus you can stream to any device capable of internet ie phone (not sure if video will play on a phone but MP3's deffof do) in the world

ive never tried with video but MP3's work a treat, but its technically possible

Tversity will recode the media stream so it is compatible with the player.

Plus you can play youtube videos on the Wii:thumbs:

That sounds possible, something for me to play with this weekend.
Thanks a lot!

Ash,
Got you tube playing on it now. Want to be able to watch films etc though without having to burn them to dvd etc.

Thanks again.:)

You might be able to get mpeg2 dvd out of it but i cannot see the wii ever having the grunt to do even 720p let alone 1080...

You have to get points/stars from the wii website then download it from the "wii shop". Really easy to do, you get points with every Nintendo purchase, ie the console itself, controllers, games. Convert these to stars then download software.

Sideways,
Quality isn't very good but ok for me. MP3's sounded pretty good though.

you can also buy points either by putting your creditcard on the wii shop or from shops like game etc

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/latest/

all about setting up the iplayer on the Wii

On your Wii, you'll first need to install the Internet Channel, which costs 500 Wii points, or approx. £3.50 (unfortunately there's no alternative to having to buy the Wii Internet Channel for BBC iPlayer web site access at this time - but later we hope to be able to get BBC iPlayer on Wii without this purchase being needed). After you've installed the Internet Channel, browse to www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer, find your favourite programme, and hit Play. The programme should play immediately.

For a smooth playback experience on Wii you'll need an internet connection that can give you 1Mbps or better. If you're experiencing buffering issues, try turning off any P2P or other downloads that are running on other computers around your home.

BBC iPlayer on Wii is still in beta, and over the coming weeks we'll tweak the video encoding rates and playback window size to get the best possible video quality.

Just a quick update to this (soz for the massive bump :wack:). BBC iPlayer is now free to download on the Wii (well was available towards the back end of last year but only just now thought about mentioning it) and is pretty good too

Does indeed yeah, was pleasantly surprised at the quality :). Watched the Scalextric episode of James May's series and it streamed without fault.
