HELP! :o

IT question, when deleting something on the computer if you use the shift and delete combination so the stuff dosen't go in the recyle bin, is there anyway of restoring that data

any help would be very much appreciated

I doubt it. but maybe there is a way.

I guess thats y u have to press 2 buttons to permantly delete them

Not easily, but you can do it.

I had a program before (Norton something or other) which allowed you to do it.

You can only do it if that part of the disk has not been overwritten by something else.

Basically when something is deleted it is renamed with the first letter of the filename changed to a $ or something and its made invisible. Its still there though.

Thats assuming its a FAT files system I don't know if the same is true of NTFS.

Which I am now looking for,

anybody got a working copy of one or a link to a site with one which is free and working? :D

quite a lot of the ones you download show you what you can restore but won't restore it.
You might have to look a little bit harder for a less well known one.

Papa. Norton system works?

the funky tool you want is Recover4All and I *cough* might just have a copy of it *cough* (PM)

Papa is right though. You can only recover it if the entire file hasnt been overwritten by anything else. Windows / DOS changes the first char of the filename to "?" and it's then hidden.

I've found OnTrack's recovery tool to be quite excellent.
