Done a few things to the car over the winter. I decided to go for a bit more power so stuff needed doing.

First off I did this with the help of Taff.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/enginerefresh009.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/enginerefresh012.jpg

And found a couple of issues.
A broken engine mount.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/enginerefresh013.jpg

The other side wasnt quite as bad but wouldnt have lasted much longer.

A fooked clutch and flywheel.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/enginerefresh016.jpg

Oh, and both the nuts holding the gearbox mount to the crossmember had dropped off so effectively the engine and box were held in place by half an engine mount and gravity.:wack:

Then I did this.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/enginerefresh033.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/enginerefresh035.jpg

Big end bearings were fine but the mains were slightly scored along with the main journals on the crank.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/enginerefresh031.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/enginerefresh036.jpg

So the crank went off to the machine shop to have the mains reground, along with the block to be glaze busted.

Then I bought new stuff. A GT2871R, a rare mild steel tubular manifold, a new dump pipe, some 660cc injectors, DB Power engine mounts, JE piston rings, ACL Race main and big end bearings, a new APT lightened flywhel, an Exedy paddle clutch and another gearbox. My bank account cried.:wack:

The head went off to my mate Paul_S13 for him to port and polish and then to his local machine shop for a light skim, the valve seats recut and valves lapped in.

While I was waiting for a few things to turn up I put some new brakes on from an R32 GTR.

I then welded a proper boss onto the sump for the temp sensor to replace the leaky bodge I did ages ago.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/engineystuff0141.jpg

Oooh, turbo and manifold.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/engineystuff0181.jpg

Then I started putting the engine together.

Check out my super simple 5 minute turbo support...

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/engine%20refresh/DSCN1179.jpg

And then me and Taff put it back in the car.

Tadaaaa.:)

Started running it in this evening and it drives lovely.

Just got to get it mapped and hopefully I'll have some decent power. Fingers crossed it doesnt blow up.:D:eek:

Is that a 'Frenchweapon' mani? Nice find

How much power you going for?

SteveCarter200

Yep, FrenchWeapon manifold, Ive been waiting ages for one to turn up second hand. Big thanks to Kieran_E1 for it.

I'm hoping for around 370@fly but we'll see what happens.:)

That clutch looks a bit homo, but that shouldn't detract from getting all that together in not much time; a couple of weeks ago when you PM'd me I had my doubts that you'd get it together.

Me too. Things progressed quite quickly once I had all the parts together and I got my arse into gear.

Speaking of the clutch, has anyone used an Exedy paddle kit like the one Ive got now and a Nismo cover? Im asking because the exedy is a hell of a lot lighter on the peddle than the Nismo was, which leads me to think that the cover isnt as uprated as the Nismo. Or is it down to the pivot point on the sprung finger doodahs?

Pretty impressive flywheel wear there Steve. Good to see you made some quick progress.

Nice one Steve. CAs still rule.

Too true  Although the drifting community probably deem it illegal to use a CA in a drift car

They do indeed, they have soul :D

Good work Steve - considering that lump's been given some proper abuse, even the mains don't look so bad

Updatetastic....

The car made 350bhp on APTs rollers which is nice. Unfortunately the brand new Exedy clutch didnt think so and slipped on 3rd gear clutch kicking. Bit of a pity as it was fine for normal use.

So I ordered a new clutch, one of the new Spec Stg3+ kits that DriftWorks are now doing. I also thought it rude not to buy one of their flywheels as well.:D The kit is pretty damn beefy and comes with a new release bearing, spigot bush and alignment tool.

So today me and Taff (who has been a huge help with all the car work, top chap)cracked on with the job of changing it over. Nice and sunny, nice and bloody hot.:wack:

I used the force to keep the front end in the air.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/clutchchange010.jpg

Bad clutch (for sale now, with a lightened flywheel, will be fine for an S13 with less torque than mine)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/SteveC200/clutchchange007.jpg

It took us 5 hours to do which wasnt too bad considering we had quite a few 'fcuk its hot' breaks.

Havent driven it yet but I'm pretty confident it will hold up fine as its rated to 450ftlbs.

During the week I also fitted my nice new carbon fibre sunroof thanks to Colwell.:notworthy Took a bit of finishing off to get the fittings attached properly and had to be creative to make a seal but it looks uber cool.
