I got her in October and this is how she looked.

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00954.jpg

I was very happy with the spec of the car for the price I got her for. However the Matt Black paint was a bit on the rough side and a future plan was to paint her. I serviced her and then took her up to Crail to have my first go at "Circley Skids"

It was SOOOOO much fun and I felt I did rather well for my first time. I kept the car going having the odd break down (what S13 doesn't) however after a nice run to Edinburgh my car's Headgasket decided it was gonna give up between Cylinders 1 & 2. I had the car towed down to my mates house in Kilwinning to work on it and while it was there get it brought back to its former glory!

So Here the Story begins:

The Plan (I.e. How it will look at the end of March)
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/P3040016.jpg

We started today by removing the bumpers and lights etc.

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00027.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00025.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00021.jpg

I did that and my mate who is painting it started sanding down the car. We came across something rather interesting, the whole front end of the car was BARE METAL! :wack:

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00022.jpg

More pics shall follow next weekend, until then drool over my mates Azure Blue 350z on 20" Antera wheels  :notworthy

I guess that bare metal would have been Bob, I know he was planning doing a proper job inside and out so would have stripped it right down. Then ruined it with matt bandwagon black :wack: Lacquer the bare metal, it looks cool :D

Na Sam, its going back to Black and White. I can't wait to see it finished. My mate kept working after I left last night, found lots of filler in one of the rear quarters and he also took off all the front Panals. I'm going back over this wednesday to remove the tailgate and the doors. :thumb:

Well Here is the story so far:

I popped over on Wednesday night and we took off mirrors, tailgate and the ariel (Which was a whore of a job BTW!).

Martin, had primed the bare metal wings and bonnet and had started working on sorting out the dent on my pillar where the brick had hit it a while back :(

So, here are more pics!

Then with some shiny paint on, I started seeing the car coming together last night.

Well I meant to do this at the weekend but never got the chance so here is the update today.

On Thursday night Steve and I (but mainly Steve) pulled LOADS of bits off the car:

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00080.jpg

And made my engine look like this!

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00074.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00083.jpg

I had had a SEVRE problem with it and it was diagnosed as the head gasket as my cylinder pressures were:

75 75 130 140

Which was bad as they should be 140 (when cold) in all! Its plain to see that the HG was defiantly broken:

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00081.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00082.jpg

Don't worry though I have a Cometic 1.3 Metal one waiting to go in :cheer:

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00069-1.jpg

More of painting kinda stuff coming soon!

nice work, i love painting stuff, just so so time consuming but well worth it, :)

Nice work. Looking like it is gonna be a nice car again :)

Btw, how did you get the rear lights off after unbolting them? Did you just pull really hard to release it from the sticky gunk in fear of breaking them?

Matthew

Cheers bud,

I've had them off before but I need to fit them again with new Silicon.

Was down yesterday and got a lot done. I didn't get many pics as I was too busy working but here are some of them.

I first inspected Martin's work with the door shuts he had painted a few days earlier.

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00093.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00092.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00090.jpg

I was rather inpressed by the nice glossy white that was on the car, it got me excited thinking about what it would look like all over the car! So with my new enthusiam I got stuck into attacking the doors and quarters. If you ever have to get Matt Black paint off a car make sure you have strong arms or a DA Sander with plenty of pads as we went through about 10 Discs last night on just 2 doors and 2 quarter panels!

Before
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00043.jpg

During
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00100.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00098.jpg

After
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00104.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00096.jpg

Saturday will consist of sorting a small hole we found on my passenger sill (Thanks Hooky :D ). Martin will attack my Drivers side quarter as you'll see in the pics above there is some mad filler action going on in there. The car I think has had a good hard shunt there in a past life due to the dents and stuff we can feel. I will no doubt be stripping off all the brackets from my old rough as fook bumper and attacking them to my new "not as" rough bumper.

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/Project%20Paint/SMDSC00097.jpg

It has a splitter

I think I may also begin rubbing down my headlight covers and both bumpers in Prep for painting next weekend. I was hoping for the engine to go back together but Steve can't make it down and Nissan only gave me one Rocker Gasked :annoyed:

So There is End in Sight! More Updates to come! :sxoc:

the body should be painted tuesday :)

only then got the bumpers, tailgate, fuel cap, door trims mirrors and a wee touch up on the bonnet to do, then refit it all, flat it, polish it, ah joy :D

Fake Ben Taylor
16-03-2008, 22:04
was it matt or satin black in the top pics? :)

and glad to see it coming back to shiny paint :D

Rubix_Cube
17-03-2008, 10:26
Hey Ben,

It was Matt Satin Black (Harlfords Rattle Cans I believe). Yes, shiny white paint coming soon! :D

Martin_350z
21-03-2008, 23:40
got a bit of progress, the whole body is now completely painted, turned out really really well. pics aren't too hot though, either i had mister shakey hand man, or the lense was covered in shit, ah well.

the body is still to be wet sanded and polished, so dont judge it too much yet!

plan is to get everything else painted by the end of the weekend, then have around 4 days to build the car up, and wet sand n polish it.

oh and the engine now works! cheers steve! no doubt wullie will post better pics up soon.

Well some of you will be aware that my 200 has been kinda pumped for around 2 months now. The Key and Keyway on my crankshaft decided to go all shit and it knocked my timing out, and ****ed the front pulley and spacer plates etc.

Since learning of the trouble I've been buying bits to get it fixed before JAE. First of all was this 2nd Hand Auto crankshaft:

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00455SM-1.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00456SM.jpg
As you can see, its absolutely minted. It is almost standard size all round.

With changing the crank it is best to change all the bearings. This was a chance to upgrade bits. So I have ACL Race Main Bearings and ACL Duraglide (Heavy Duty) Big End bearings:

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00459SM.jpg

Rubix_Cube
13-08-2008, 23:04
With changing the crank I needed to go to Nissan to get raped for seals and gaskets etc.

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00461SM.jpg

Here are all the individual bits :)

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/th_DSC00462SM.jpg (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00462SM.jpg)http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/th_DSC00463SM.jpg (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00463SM.jpg)http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/th_DSC00464SM.jpg (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00464SM.jpg)

Rubix_Cube
13-08-2008, 23:06
Then while I was thinking about things I needed, i thought of things I wanted to change.... Its time for more power!!!

I bought a T28 Turbo to upgrade from my T25. (I used my spare T25 for a comparison)

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00457SM.jpg

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00458SM.jpg

With changing the Turbo I needed to sort out the management, so it was a Norris Designs "Stage 1" Chip. Here's what Norris's website says:

The Stage 1 chip also has the FCD facility, but includes changes to the fuelling and ignition maps as well. These changes enable the car to produce more power and is suitable for any 200SX running up to approx 280Hp. This chip gives +6Hp by itself or when fitted with an ND Boost Upgrade Kit will yield a combined +27Hp. This chip will work with either a T3 or a T28 turbo.

Needless to say I'm gonna be lovin the S13 more :D

I left work at 4.45 and headed to the Magic Kingdom we got there around 7ish and began working pretty much straight away, there was lots of pulling things and jovial banter of 200sx fixing/breaking/bodging :)

I took as many pics as I could be bothered to take, I was ACTAUALLY working believe it or not

We stripped all the I/C Piping and stuff off and prepped of lifting

Then we took it out, This was about 8-8.30pm

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00471SM.jpg

Then Steve began attacking the engine and gearbox

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f25/rubix_cube84/The%20SX/DSC00472SM.jpg

At this point I went and attacked the Old Manifold, T25 Turbo and Elbow then Steve called me over to say "Your Crank is well pumped, holy **** look at it!"

The reasons are shown below. I tried to show the pumped parts next to their replacements.

This is the most serious issue I had, the picture was pretty out of focus

But here is a clear one of the utterly ****ed key and then some of the utter ****ed keyway

Also while everything was off Steve was showing me shiney bits from inside my engine..

Polished Rods and machined pistons!!

Then it was around 12.30, all the new bearings were in, the new crank and turbo were all on ready for fitting today.

We got it all back together and she fired up first time and she now purrs so much. I'll get some pics tomorrow of the full set up :)

RPS Clutch is in. Feels great, holds the power well, pedal is a bit heavier but nothing that would kill you. Feels like my mates stock Evo 8 clutch now. The bite point takes a bit of getting used to, but I knew it would due to it being a paddle. I keep jumping about a bit when pulling away LOL Other than that its excellent!

Its a CA mate they run regardless! I had one that was able to start and idle on 1 cylinder!!!! Yes 1 Cylinder!!!! All teh bottom end was shot and oil and crap in 3 of the bores. COmpression test showed 120, 30, 46, 23

I couldnt believe it actually did start!! Should have heard it though! It was actually quite funny!
