I feel i must praise the clio driver who treated me to a termendous display of skill outside my work carpark this afternoon.
The take off from the line was remarkable. 16 valves screaming away at 5000rpm for five or six seconds, his powerplant resonating through his DTM twin exhaust pipes as he sat on the line waiting for a gap in the heavy traffic.
He dumped the clutch with all the professionalism of a time served drag racer. He controlled the 8 seconds of wheelspin on the soaking wet and oily tarmac with ease before the car started to drag itself off the line like a arthritic greyhound. He had the car right on it's limits as he demonstrated to me by letting me hear his car bounce off the rev limiter in 1st for at least 5 seconds.
He went for second and again displayed tremendous car control as the front wheels spun frantically with absolutely no traction. The rev limiter once again reminded me of his talents as he gave me another 5 second burst before he went for 3rd.
And then he was gone... leaving me only the smell of burnt clutch and catalyst to remind me of the experience.
