Can somebody shed some light on this... such as what the difference between Mitsubishi 3000 GTO, Mitsubishi 3000 GT and Mitsubishi GTO are they all the same thing? Is one of them a import? performance? etc...

Dont want to be beaten by a friend (hes getting it,not me! I'll be sticking with the 200sx, he just doesnt know what he's missing! his loss!) just doing my homework!

cheers!

My mates 97 3000 GTO ran 12.5@120mph ...

American GTO's (known as a VR-4) have 320hp stock.

He had upped boost, full turbo back exhaust, dual pod intake, and hard pipes.

3 litres, 6 cylinder, non turbo(RWD) or twin turbo(4WD), probably 0-60 in about 5.5 secs (dont quote me on that). I think that the 3000gt was the british model and the GTO was the jap model, not sure about the 3000GTO though. As far as I'm aware, there's no performance difference. Sorry people but if they weren't so expensive, and weren't group 20 insurance, I'd have one over an SX anyday

Might be quick in a straight line, but they don't go round corners, 4ws or not!
Make sure you take him on the twisties as I don't think you'll have much chance away from lights:(
I'd have gone for a Supra personally....:D

i was thinking about this, in comparison to a 300zx they are crap just look quite nice, but i think both the 300 and gto look nice just in different ways

I have heard that the GTO is VERY EXPENSIVE to maintain because everything is controlled by computers?

Great looks, pants reliability. Non-turbo's are a bit jobby.

Later model GTOs have weak transmissions (6-speed getrag) as well as a hefty price tag on every part on them. The car weighs 4000lbs. w/ driver. Stuff breaks all the time on them.

I think they look frickin wicked

I'd love a go in one to see for myself if they are as cr@p to drive as everyone (who hasn't driven one) says they are.

apparently handling is good. but cuz of the sheer weight it lacks get up and go. thinks its between 5.5 and 6 to 60 but feels sluggish and maintenance is extoranate.

i do agree they loook wikid, but, i also think the zed looks wikid and i'd prefer rear wheel fun and is apparantly quiker n e way so my next car (excluding my next car which is going to be a second s13) is definately going to be a Z32 TT

They have a bad rep, but in reallity I think they are fantastic cars.

They are very heavy, and more of a tourer than a track car. The reason why most people don't like them is cos the technology on the car does most things for you. I've driven one, and I felt very fast, handling was very stable. But you are cut off from the outside quite a bit.

I dunno about reliablilty or costs, I couldn't even afford to insure the thing. I'd probably go for a supra over the GTO, but they are good IMO.

Afaik the GTO was the name for the earlier versions and it was rebadged 3000GT for the latter ones when it went thro a few cosmetic changes. I think mechanically it remained the same.
They are gorgeous cars but cost a lot to maintain properly. I have heard it is difficult to get Mitsi dealers to help with parts+servicing on imports as they are a bit "anti import", dunno if anyone else has heard this?
As said, they are also loaded with technological gadgetry which is remotgage time if it goes wrong as are most parts for them.
I would consider an R33, FD RX7 or a Supra over one if practicality/finance were an issue but if you love the cars then WTF!!!:D

They look fantastic:D

Although I've heard that the electrics can be frankly shocking;)

BTW they are not supposed to be the most involving drivers car assumedly due to all the gadgetry sanitising the driver feel of the car. This is what a friend told me when he test drove one prior to buying his M3. It did go like "greased weasel 5h1t!" I think was his expression! I have no experience of lubricated weasel excrement but one assumes he meant it shifted a bit? ;)

3000gt was the early model up to about 92-93 dodgy gear boxs, GTO came after, you need 95 or later to avoid the iffy box, they also changed the lights from pop up to no pop up!

afaik the gto is a grey import and the 3000gt is a uk spec car.
