Battery light?

Hello,

Any ideas why when I take my foot off accelerator pedal the battery light comes on? Put foot back on and it goes away.

I have just had the garage put a volt meter on the battery and he said it was charging.

Knackered battery?

Any ideas welcome. Cheers

Should also mention that the car has developeda whirring noise & it is holding back more than usual too
