Anyone know anything about or own one of these models.
I am considering another moto (maybe) and want to look at alternatives to the S13.
All comments welcome (Good, bad or indifferent).
Not decided on price range yet but have thought on the following:
Look for late year S13, S14a, 300ZX, Mitsibushi or Soarer

Lexus Soarer owners aren't the most poular of people on this board.....
Ok, one owner in particular. You can ask him on the GTR forum if you like, he goes under the name of Mycroft. :D

Driven by blue-haired old biddies in these parts. Real men drive S14s ;)

Meant to add 300ZX in Poll but forgot.

I'd go for the S14. (despite me being an S13 owner)
The 3000gt and the 300ZX will cost a fortune to run and a fortune when they go wrong (the mitsubishi being the worst). Ok, so both are faster and look stunning but they won't impress anyone if their sitting on your driveway cuz you can't afford to drive it.
The Soarer is a nice comfy car but it's also heavy and pretty expensive to run. IIRC they are only imports so will hit your pocket pretty hard when insurance time comes around.
Stick to a nissan... cheaper to run, cheaper to fix, cheaper to insure, cheaper to mod .... and just as many grins/mile.
I voted another, and suggest a Mitsi EVO 4-7
The Soarer is excellent value for money, and being a Toyota it'll be bullet-proof reliable.
There are problems though:
They're *all* imports.
Virtually all of them are autos.
If something does go wrong, it'll be horrendously expensive.
Looks aren't to everyone's tastes.
Personally, I'd go for a Skyline GTS.
Yer, apart from S14 i'd go for a R32 GTs or GTR depending on budget, not a nasty 4 door one tho :p Sports cars only have 2 doors :D I have noticed you can get Soarers badged as a Lexus or a Toyota, is there any difference eg, trim, year of make, engine, import etc.
Nope - AFAIK there's no such thing as a Lexus Soarer you see - they're all Toyota's - it's just some owners put Lexus badges on them.

I would tend to agree although the Owners Club seems to market them as Lexus

Probably because they came out the same factories as the rest of the Lexus models (remember, Lexus doesn't exist in Japan - they're all Toyotas over there), and a variant of the Soarer was sold under a in the US as a Lexus. (SC something-or-other).
Yer its known as the Lexus Coupe over in the states i think, Wheres Nismo Freak when you need him :p

So that's a big plus then.

I quite like them. The 2.5 TT is a great engine. But they are Toyotas! Not Lexus

Doesn't it really depend on whether you plan to modify it and what you plan to do with it?
Personally Ive always thought the Soarer looked like a tremendous bargain for luxury and power (TV etc in some I think, 6 cylininder twin tub power, electr. active suspension too I think), but if you were thinking about modding Im sure it would get very expensive, and the weight/engine size etc. must make it a real guzzler, dread to think what a modded one would use!
For lesser mortals (those without bottomless pockets), the s14/a (with some assistance from this board for bits/advice etc.), could be a real missile, reliable with tolerable fuel ecconomy for very reasonable money.

They are highly modifiable. Although its going to get pretty expensive after you've done the usual BPU's. I think the basic upgrades will probably get you not far off the 400 hp mark IIRC.

I used to be on the MR2 board and one of the guys on there used to drive one, Chris Wilson, I believe I've seen his name mentioned on here before. Hes got a machine shop and really knows his stuff. Anyhow, I'm sure they do one with the same TT engine as in the Supra, and apparently while its obviously not going to be as quick, it aint that far behind!
I do agree that they look like an "older" mans car but probably can be quite good fun! :D

see if yo can get a EVO 4 for cheapish (fat chance). deadly machines, have the same engines as 5/6/7 so you know you could challange Simon Noriris's EVO 5;)
Soarer, SFAIK is equipped with either 4.0 V8 or 1JZ (2.5TT), which is the forerunner to the 2JZ found in the Supra. Highly tuneable, although parts aren't that easy to find. All 2.5TT Soarers are imports, so insurance etc quite pricey. Big heavy car though, plenty of toys though, later ones had in-car TV, SatNav etc. Bit pipe and slippers which is why Mycroft has one I expect.

Ive seen evo 4s (60 000 ish miles) for around the £6-7000 mark recently.
Great 'point to point drive' as standard, but not as fast on open road as a modded s14. Would love one as an alternative car though, if I could afford it!
