Ideas pls.

A friends K11 1.0 p reg wont start, sounds like it really wants to, but it aint.

Plugs and air filter were manky, but i pulled plugs out and cleaned them a bit with sand paper, and took the filter out of the road all together.

Plugs were oily:( and stunk of petrol, so its getting fuel, and im pretty sure its getting a spark also.

Its so close, but just not there.

I know theres a couple of nissan grease monkeys on ere so give us a hand boys.

Ive got a feeling its a common fault, cos im pretty certain this happened to my sis's K11 last year and we eventually got the AA out and the guy said it was common, but i cant remember for the life of me, wat it was.

Help!

Kev

I copy your post onto "Cisco's Micra Files". It's an australian BBS for the K11. Not very busy but there's bound to be someone there who'll know the answer.

should also add.....

You say you're sure it's getting a spark?? I'd double check the distributor arm and cap. Give them a clean too and see if it helps. Also check the induction pipes. Apparently they've been known to work lose, block the intake and starve the engine.

oh... and does the car have an immobiliser??

Doubt it.... probably not gonna be back up north for another month or so. Too busy job and house hunting down here at the moment.

Kev, dunno if you've still got problems with the micra but i got this reply from someone on the Micra BBS... sounds like it may be a similar problem.

Hi,

I saw your note on the Aussie "cisco's micra files". I had a similar problem a while back. It occurs on a cold day if the car is moved a day or two earlier for a very short time (eg shuffling cars on the drive).

Apparently as the engine doesn't warm-up properly, the engine management system doesn't settle down and floods the engine. If it's a cold day, the excess fuel doesn't evaporate, so next time you want a cold start, it puts out more fuel again and soaks the cylinders and plugs. You need to take out the plugs, dry and clean them and leave them out for some time to allow the excess fuel in the cylinders to evaporate. If you look into the plug holes you'll see just how wet it is!

Go to http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/home/index.htm and search for "micra cold start flooded". There are a number of discussions about the problem and the solution. Apparently Nissan have a modification to a temperature sensor that fools the management system into believing that the engine is warmer than it is, so doesn't use such a rich fuel mixture.

Regards.

Thanks mate.
I think basically the plugs were removed and changed and it seems to be ok now.
