View Full Version : [2008] TOTB 7 - Show of hands please
After the best SXOC showing for a while last year we have been offered more spots for 2008.
To be honest guys I'm reluctant to ask for more than 5
Last year we only had 4/5 actually take part, and that was good for our past history.
We did however mange 2 3rd places, BigTone clocking some insane top speed and placing superbly, and I did ok myself on the handling.
So, who is SERIOUS about TOTB 7 ?
Its on 27th of July and clashes with JAE ... which is unfortunate :indiff:
Think about it carefully please, and make sure the answer to all the questions is YES.
1) My car has worked recently, works now, or will work very shortly.
2) My car is to a high spec for at least 1 of the 3 disciplines tested on the day, or will perform all round.
3) I am reliable and would be proud to represent the club.
Please don't post if you only expect your standard car to have 8000bhp by then once you have dropped in the rolls royce jet engine, and not actually have something tangible with some proof to back up the claims on 1/4 mile, top speed or handling capabilities of your car.
The top speed this year will be 1km, not 1 mile.
Too many cars doing 200mph :wack: I think its 3 years since it was dropped from 1.25miles to a mile for the same reason.
This I posted last year is still valid
TOTB team selection will be on the following factors, not in any order
Overall car performance
Team Diversacy
Proven Reliable car
Familarity of format / competition in general
Arse! Feck! Arse! :annoyed: I'll be in Mauritius that day :( Was looking forward to trying out for it.

Clashes with JAE!? thats poor planning
Whats worse is my girlfriends brother is getting married at the end of june or end of july in slovakia, if its july i'm gonna be pissed

Cant believe it clashes :indiff: thats shocking!
I was hoping to make it to both this year. That might be a little difficult :wack:
Aye, one or both events are going to get some poor ettendence. Pitty :/

And i've just found out i'm meant to be going on holiday 17th May, which is Japfest
Well, thats 2008 ****ed up then!
yeah im intressted but i really wanted to do jae this year as its a very big sxoc thing.
im not even sure my s13 is upto the job! 400hp at most, should be good round a track tho. these is other better cars than mine that should go so i maybe good for reseave place if we cant get 5
Hmm, it was always my plan to have the new engine ready for TOTB 7 and enter. Not got anything tangible to offer at this stage, as the engine isn't ready. So I'm not sure if I'm supposed to post! Although my car works great right now, so that's a bonus (different engine though) :wack:
It will be set up for drag in the first instance, then top speed, then handling.
There are two RWYB sessions in January (20th & 27th), I'll be there getting in as much practice as possible
As the official commencement of entries is 1st March, I'm hoping that everything will be proven before this date.
It's a shame about JAE, the fools

sm was only 400hp last year ;)
i doubt my car will be ready :( will hopefully be 400bhp in time but box will be weak point :( till i can get my supra box machined:nod:
I'll be up for this, will have a new engine by that time with a lot more power etc. I will also have a lot more practice as I only just had the car last year, so this time I'll have the proven times needed.
My plan would be to go to JAE, and drive up on the Sunday morning (its not that far)
what do you have to do to qualify to be entered?

I could be up for a little trip from JAE to TOTB if either to spectate or to partake, depending on if I have got the money together to get my car all done in time.

JAEs gonna be shit if everyone stays off the booze saturday night to go to TOTB sunday
My cars nearly ready, should handle well and go fast a straight line!
Do you need to have FIA approved cage and saftey devices to compete?
I would like to go to a team event aswell and represent the club, but ive not been the most reliable person, however I am alot better now!
I don't think im allowed to go to club events though after missing an RR day (car troubles and job loss didnt help!)
JAE is the best car related weekend in the whole year.
It's piss poor planning by TOTB to let it clash with JAE, unless it was deliberate in an attempt to get fewer Jap cars to give others a chance.
I've been for the last few years to both TOTB and JAE.
I'd go to JAE over TOTB. TOTB is poorly organised, nobody seems to know what is going on, it's poorly run, safety is appalling and it tends to be full of Max Power chavs and leaves you feeling ripped off.
I'd highly recommend the JAE option!!:D
JAE is good and to be honest I would only go to TOTB if I were competing but thats more to do with the 6h drive from my house than anything else. Doing both in 1 hit is better for me as I never drink much at JAE anway (I'm the only one who dosent) and im half way to TOTB which is nice

totb set their date first....afaik its jae organisers that have ****ed up
I'm interested in TOTB this year, am also entered into the prostreet drag series in 2008 at shakespeare (http://prostreetdragseriesuk.freeforums.org/) so should have the car nicely developed and have had plenty of practice by the end of july
JAE date or venue does not appear to be confirmed yet ???

I will be doing jae then upto totb on the sunday, would be great if could get plenty of guys together for a jae to totb convoy, doesnt make up for the piss poor planning but make the most out of the situation. :sxoc:
I think this thread is more to give an idea of numbers for participation in the event....
Woops yes it is BACK ON TOPIC!!!
yea soooo what does it take to qualify as i should have my new turbo on and mapped by the end of the month so i should be able to start getting the hang of the car again not sayin ill be any good but ill give it a whirl
800bhp - sound like your a strong candidate.
SX Sam - sorry you have poor reliability with turnig up to club events, theres no way I can consider you for the team at this moment in time.

To be honest guys I'm reluctant to ask for more than 5
Last year we only had 4/5 actually take part, and that was good for our past history.
Can I ask why Kev? Last year the club entered 5 cars, unfortunately 1 broke so only 4 managed to run  MLR had entered 10 cars plus a couple in reserve, they had a few problems but other cars were able to take their places.
Why not enter 10 and 2 reserves? (there are plently of worthy cars on here now ) that way we may be able to field the full complement of cars :sxoc:
Its not just about the cars... its more about if poeple can be arced insoting their cars, turning up and making the effort. Something the MLR boys think its worth doing and make a better job at it
Thats not anything about you but an obervation of the club in general.
Surely all competitors will be paying the entry fees upfront  If they don't turn up they've thrown £100 (ish) away
anyway your not Kev so your answer doesn't count :p
Well yeah... but seeing as what ive jsut put on a CC for the entry fee for TA... ~£100 aint a huge amount. :p
SX Sam - sorry you have poor reliability with turnig up to club events, theres no way I can consider you for the team at this moment in time.
Fair enough mate, if you change your mind let me know, I would be reliable though, I am a changed man :)
Well yeah... but seeing as what ive jsut put on a CC for the entry fee for TA... ~£100 aint a huge amount. :p
Totb is on Yak then:D
If they give us 10 spaces Buffy and only 4 turn up Chris (the organiser) will be pissed:nod:
And next year we will get less.
However if people are definate and the above is stipulated to them then I would use the spare even SX Sam should be considered as a reserve.
Ive seen the other side of organising this event and when people let you down they are also letting the organiser (SM) and club down big time.
You cant tell the people off who fail to make it due to Mechanical failure but the rest:whip:
Has anybody entered in the past not turned up for any other reason than a mechanical failure?
Buffy, do you think we (you :wack:) have time to make mine competitive for this since she is now all run in and going sweeeeeet! :)
Has anybody entered in the past not turned up for any other reason than a mechanical failure?
I think people haven't had cars ready, and perhaps not been entirely realistic in predicting when they would be ready in the past, which was a problem.
We tend to end up with a lot of promising prospects but very few actual race ready cars.
Last year was the best show from SXOC in all the TOTB's I've been to. :)
IF mine is running and more competative than others that could run then I would be up for it.
I would have run last year but the block cracked........
Has anybody entered in the past not turned up for any other reason than a mechanical failure?
I dont know the full history off the top of my head, and its not just last year I'm going off.
Last year 3 months before the event we had 5 competitors and 3 or 4 reserves.
By the event deadline wwe had just 5 competitors, no reserves.
By the event we had 4 working cars.
I'm reluctant to make it more than 5 given our history, we dont have 5 people putting there hands up with cars that proven at this point anyway.
We'll stick with 5 but if the list swells and people are showing to be working hard to put on a good show for the club I'll haggle for more.
The List so far.
1) Bigtone - I have spoken to BT in person at Autosport although he hasnt posted here yet. His car will be another step on from last year and he has plans for plenty of 1/4 practise. 2007 = 3rd in top speed.
2) SM - Hoping to improve on last years 3rd place in handling.
3) Figjam - back again for more, his 2nd time the cars 3rd.
4) 800bhp - Will be running in the drag series in 2008
5)
Expressed interest.
Niteryder - still needs to sort car
SX Sam - but doesnt have great record of attendence.
Madda - RB26DETT S13
Bling
Noz
Damo S13 - Time Attacker
SM Persuding
Yak - with the sister car to mine, bother will be same power/livery
Bren - may build a 200 this year
Jez - has a awesome car
I know my record is not the best, I am vastly improved though, I wouldn't mind being a reserve either!
Id really like to support the club in this, and the car will be very well sorted by the end of the month
Buffy, do you think we (you :wack:) have time to make mine competitive for this since she is now all run in and going sweeeeeet! :)

Yes I completely understand, If I was organising an event I would also be weary about someone with my reputation for being reliable, I am going to start going to more club meet's and events when the car's back to gain the clubs trust again!
I have changed though and would happily come along as a reserve and to support the club
well i deff want to do this so put my name down,

if i can get the car up and going in the next two months ill have time to get 'some' pracice in it so we'll see how the build goes. :)
Well I know what I said but given the interest ......... 2 more places added.
DONT make me look a FOOL! (well at least not anymore of a fool than normal)

Redline TOTB 7 in association with Millers Oils
Sunday 27th July 2008 Elvington Airfield nr York
Team reps update
To all team /group reps
We will be launching Redline TOTB7 as usual in Feb 2008, but prior to that we’d like to confirm with you all who will be representing each particular club and group for 2008.
We intend starting dialogue from next week with team reps regarding the new proposals and changes to the event for competitors with a view to signing off any changes by the 1st March if possible.
In addition we have some information and proposals for you reps to put to your team members and groups which may be of interest:
For Spectators-
Introduction of raised viewing terraces in addition to grandstands for spectators which should help alleviate the problems with crowded viewing experienced in previous years. Further improvements to the results displays and PA system including a full Redline results service from the Redline marquee. The trade display area and show car section will also use the same larger hard standing area as last year which worked very well.
For car club members
Group buy discount as usual on bulk orders of 10 or more advance spectator tickets, along with a dedicated show area for the top 5 show cars from each club within the trade area. Competing clubs will also be given room for a club marquee if required alongside the show cars.
For competitors- specific proposals- please give feedback on:
1. Handling circuit- Straightliners Ltd have a new TAG Huer multi-car timing system for this season, which will allow 2 cars out on track (with suitable safety gap) to be individually timed and recorded. This should obviously reduce waiting times considerably. We also propose that the untimed sighting lap for each car is dropped as it is one of the main delays to the handling circuit. One other possibility is that all drivers are allowed to walk the circuit on Sunday morning prior to the event starting, to give them an initial sight of the circuit layout. These changes combined with the new timing system would massively reduce the queues on the handling and will ensure more competitors get all their 5 timed runs in (should they wish to do so).
2. Top Speed- we are proposing a standing kilometre top speed trap for 2008, which will give us a couple of improvements, one being safety related as the standing mile is already massively quick with many cars pushing 200+mph, plus it’s also very hard on the actual cars in terms of engine damage and retirements. If a standing kilometre is adopted we can also hard-wire the speed trap back to the main timing system, giving instant results rather than waiting for a print out to be sent back or radioed in. The reduced top speeds achieved would still be circa 160-180mph (est.) for the top cars so still very much a viewing spectacle. We are also looking at re-introducing the top speed viewing area for spectators. (Subject to insurer approval.)
3. Classes/tyres- last years class structure and tyre rules worked very well. Suggestions on other allowed tyres should be made before 1st March, similarly for any suggestions on rules/regs. Other than that we aim to maintain the class and rule structure from last season.
(Cont.)
4. Test days- Straightliners will be running some timed sprint events at Elvington using the new timing system in the run up to TOTB. These events are open to anyone, and will provide suitable qualifying/practise days for handling cars. Confirmed dates will be announced shortly but the first two are pencilled in for April and May at Elvington. (Info to follow.)
5. Toyo Tyres-we can supply Toyo 888s or T1Rs to competitors at special discount prices direct from Toyo- please email us for a quotation. Tyre fitting at the event may be made available if demand exists.
Please note some of the above points for competitors are proposals only at this stage.
Obviously team reps may come back to us with other comment/proposals but please do so before 1st Feb if possible, so we can discuss/agree and implement if necessary for the 1st March.
We also propose that the untimed sighting lap for each car is dropped as it is one of the main delays to the handling circuit
thats a bit of a bummer really but ok i guess as long as you get 1 or afew sighting laps
not really read that much about how the other totb have gone but seams good to me
thats a bit of a bummer really but ok i guess as long as you get 1 or afew sighting laps

Its a good thing, much better to walk the track as it did slow things down a lot:thumbs:
Those look like some very worthwhile improvements.
Kev, can I ask you or whoever is our club liason on this matter to raise one issue with them. The safety barriers have not in previous years been long enough to cover the start of the drag race/top speed run start where spectators are allowed to stand (typically on the left afterstand the grandstand). This has always seemed very dangerous to me, as any car going out of control in in the first few seconds of the start, which some have - but the drivers managed to recover, after passing the grandstand has the potential to end up in a large crowd of people, and it concerns me as I normally take the little one as do many others, as he loves it.
Apart from that looking forward to attending this if JAE does not clash. :D
Cheers,
Scott.

Thats interesting but how do we demonstrate we are competitors?

Kev,
We would be interested in supporting the club, the car is currently in many bits and completely unproven. But by the end of march it will have been on the dyno expected (6-800bhp) and by June it will have been well shaken down doing EDC. We also hope to attend some RWB events to get an idea for its potential. Its got tripple plate OS clutch, GTR diff (with 2 way) and shafts so with the right tyres and suspension set up we should be able to get some decent times.
Scottie - will do
800bhp - details will be available nearer the time, I think you'll have to order via me.
David - great news, keep me informed.
Well I know what I said but given the interest ......... 2 more places added.

Sorry, not had much sleep :wack:
Should be good this year, even better if we can get a good set of peps competing. Toyo deal is interesting, although I would say that as you dont get time to warm your tyres on a sprint track your better of with wide road tyres that heat easily like f1s
(just need to get out and get some good times
yea also would be good to get the full team and reserves together for a day to practice and help each other with set ups and stuff and ideas? before the event.
To be honest it probably better for you just to get as much practise as possible, last year there were TOTB sessions at SantaPod events - I'll pass details for those as and when.
Team will be picked in May, so you have until then to impress me. It may look like 4 are already "picked" but that doesnt mean they cant be unpicked even me and Tone with podium positions last year .....
keep me updated onto the state of your cars, post 1/4 mile slips here, post any proven handling achievents here, dyno run slips .. vids .... whatever you think will convince me your serious, have been practising, are improving the car - all of this will help.
Is qualifying for the 1/4 mile still 12.5secs or less this year?
well i dont know if a lot of ppl know my car but this is it....

I'm also at the moment looking at getting a spare set of wheels with 888s on for handling and some form of legal drag tyre i can use, along with uprated drive-shafts to try and solve a weak link. and also get a lot of practice in

Is qualifying for the 1/4 mile still 12.5secs or less this year?
Yes, you need to show excellence in at least 1 discipline, or prove your all rounderness.
I would say that you should aim for 11's if your car is primarily for the 1/4 mile based on what SXOC cars have shown interest in being on the team.
:D
Bling, your car surely will be one of the most powerfull S14a's on the board?
I am certainly interested SM, although unsure if I/my car are suiteable.
As a drap/top speed car it would be useless, but with circa 390bhp, AP brakes, proper suspension (Tein MonoFlex) it should be half decent around the handling circuit. I also have bucket/harness/cut slicks for track work.
Perhaps I can prove myself and this setup over the next few months on track....:)
Bling, your car surely will be one of the most powerfull S14a's on the board?
hant got a clue mate, i just like to try and drive it ... try being the main word there :wack:
Dan

Same here lol.:smash:
You know the spec of mine SM, you lot have supplied everything :wack:
Ill get a few 1/4's in when I get it back, and get a top speed run in.
Im also going to be attending quite a few track days and can take some video's if need be :)
I just hope I can prove myself, and show that I will definetly attend if my name is put down for a reserve or one of the main runners :)
Is it a test of the car or the driver?
IE, can Buffy do the drag runs for me and I will do Time Attack and Top Speed??
He has put so much work into the car and loves his dragging (whilst i dont) so I would love to share the driving, even if we told no1 outside of the club ;)

who apart from Tone is in 11s?
I'm looking at potencial, and looking at the people who have posted then 11's are where I expect the bar to be set.
Tone will be in the 10's for sure
If potencials arent met then of course I'll take the best team possible.
Madda - of course, driver can change for each event, just tell me at the point of team selection
i'm going to raise my hand as a possible if needed,
car will be of a similar spec to what yours was last year SM, so just need to get some track time in and prove myself and the car
From the organisers...
i also wanted you to ask team members on a new proposal, (which was aired last yr also) which is to review the drag finals as well, and reconfigure them to finish on the class finals in order, ie fwd, rwd, 4wd, pro drag. this proposal would see the end of the fwd vs rwd drag final and the 2wd vs 4wd final. we'd still have a trophy and prize for the winner of each class drag final though.
reasons for proposing this change; its a throwback to totb1, when the event could be won on the drag final alone. we then changed to a points based all round (fairer) system for totb2 on. the drag final system remained, and does extend an already very long day. the chances of an fwd car now beating rwd or 4wd are even more remote, and still wouldnt win them the overall trophy. this would then still give each class a proper drag final shootout and trophy to win, with the winner of each picking up a bonus point, same as the previous bonus for winning the 2wd vs 4wd drag shootout.
it would simply and clear up the end of the event, and we have been talking to other fwd and rwd reps about this proposal this week. currently a lot of spectators start to drift off around 4pm and miss the very last 2wd vs 4wd final, due to the length of time it takes to get through them all, and as mentioned the fwd vs rwd is a throwback to the days when a sudden drag victory could win the overall event. its now moved on a bit to the point where drag cars are winning the drag finals and proper all round cars win on points as intended.
let me know what the guys think, but to repeat there will still be the class finals and trophies, just not the specific 2wd vs 4wd end game

How about the top speed being over 1km instead of 1 mile?

hi kev spoke to you today ill keep you updated :)
Also enrolled in the Pro-Street Drag Series along with 800bhp, Figjam, Bigtone and 200sxslide
Just keep posting times and practise days attended to show your all putting the effort in, in my mind somebody putting the effort in will be above a slightly faster car that is hardly doing any events at all.
Ive entered the same drag series as Noz will aim to do a few sprint events and track days as well will be starting a project thread as well just shortly

11degC & sunny!!
Noz may well join you on this one as I would like to see what times I can get in before I finish rebuilding the new engine.
I would love to compete this year, my new engine and box is here, just waiting for some other parts which are due in the next 2-3 weeks, fingers crossed will be good enough and ready in plenty of time for TOTB

my car prob is one of the best handling S13's we have I'd have thought:
polybushed, rose jointed everything, strut braces, ARB's, coilovers, S15 Helical, 265/40/17-235/40/17. 315mm/z32 brakes, laser alligned. 370-380bhp.
Shame I can't drive it anywhere near as fast as Dobergoose or SM.

Brilliant matey, same plan as me.
Will defo be there tomorrow, have changed the suspension and packed the drag radials. Come and say hi, I'll be driving a black 200sx with gold compomotives shod in BF Drag Radials

Standard CA, stretched 205/45/16 tyres & rock solid rear suspension set-up, 1.2 bar of boost.
question can spectators go? or is it only peeps who take part?
Dont want to put my time down as it wasent great but I would be entering as an all rounder and I have it on good authority that the early season drag surface is a bag of poo (so I dont feel too bad) and traction was a big problem.
Looking forward to the new engine going in and getting out on track (1st track day is in Feb:)

I had a crap day just couldnt make it stick. Best time 14.1 @ 107mph. Anybody got any nice sticky tyres they dont want?
BTW on a private road the speedo needle reached the middle of the odometer. Any one got any thoughts on how fast this equates to?
To be honest it probably better for you just to get as much practise as possible, last year there were TOTB sessions at SantaPod events - I'll pass details for those as and when.
Team will be picked in May, so you have until then to impress me. It may look like 4 are already "picked" but that doesnt mean they cant be unpicked even me and Tone with podium positions last year .....
keep me updated onto the state of your cars, post 1/4 mile slips here, post any proven handling achievents here, dyno run slips .. vids .... whatever you think will convince me your serious, have been practising, are improving the car - all of this will help.

Might even be down to 1000kg by then as well
if the club and members want me to enter and my car is still
running then I'll go..

Show me some reliability and puts the times in on the 1/4.
I've been attending RWYB at Santa Pod as often as possible, it's been running decent power for ages. I also attended two SXOC-organised rolling road sessions this weekend just gone in order to provide a power figure, and I'm a long, long way away from Surrey RR. More importantly, I have a fully-forged engine on the way, this is just an experiment. If I can squeeze well over 400bhp @ the fly out of a stock CA, cheap T70 & management installed all of 2 days, I'm confident of decent power from pauters, wisecos, a rather special head, holset & proper map :) I also have the lightest S13 on here I believe....
The reason I'm building the car is to represent SXOC at TOTB, and I'm working my arse off in order to be able to do this.
But furry muff, I'll see if I can get a decent enough time next Sunday. I'm not trying to bitch my way onto the team, just getting a bit disheartened tbh :ghey:
On a side-note, is it not possible to get more places? I know in the past reliability has been an issue, but there seems to be a lot of interested parties this year and it may be worthwhile taking a leaf out of the Evo owners book. Just a thought :)
I've got us 7 places.
Noz - all the team will be picked on Merit, put the times in and you'll pick yourself. Your 13.4 is not yet good enough for a drag specialist, and I haven't seen anything to put your car forward for an all rounder.
800bhp is down into the 12's
I'd bet on Tone running a 10 this year.
Ken may have a V8 S14
FigJam and Purplepower have experience of the event, as does Jez, all have more power than you and potentially quicker 1/4ers.
Bren may well have over 600bhp, and a sequential box, and budget to spend on the right rubber and suspension
Your competing for a place against Madda's RB26 S13. Nyteryders RB25 Powered S13, both of which I believe could be 500bhp by TOTB, talking of 500bhp cars theres also blings supremely prepared S14a ...
I havent yet mentioned Stuee's daft wheelspinning torque tastic RB30'd S13, that car is no where near its potential and is proven reliable, I don't think Stuee is keen for the team but if he changes his mind and does some events (buys a bloody diff :smash: ) and creeps on some more boost he could easily rocket himself up the picking list.
Damo and Yak are both going to have about 450bhp, and have cars that will also perform on the handling course, as well as 12's down the strip with any luck, and some launching skill.
No offence but that's 10 cars that at the moment I would prefer in the team than yours, on outright performance and on reliability.
However things can change, and often have in the world of SXOC TOTB team selection, people fall by the wayside every month as the event approaches. You have upped your chances by being out there posting times already, lets see what times you get to, let see who else is doing what. I'll want a balanced team with as many chances at podium's and top tens as possible. There are 3 disciplines, go do some sprinting and hillclimbing if you think you can do a good all round job at all 3 disciplines.
I'm not trying to dishearten you, but I'm not picking the team now, although a lot would have to go wrong for me to unpick any of the first 4 names, if you deserve to be selected you will be. I'll also be fighting for my place and getting some 1/4 times submitted, last years result may help my case, but it doesn't automatically make it definite.

None taken
Fair enough if there are 10 cars that you'd rather have in the team than mine. Just means there are 10 cars I'll have to beat up with my little home-grown beast :) And as of now, this season, I'm second to 800bhp on the 1/4 after one attempt and now have up to 110bhp more than him on tap. Yes there are more powerful cars out there, but even Dan (Bling) with his 500bhp S14a (the best car of SXOC IMO) has a similar power-to-weight at the moment.
I am not, in any way whatsoever slagging off other people's cars (known Dan for years, and me & John have a healthy rivalry :p ), but I'm very proud of my motor, what I've done and what it can do. I am also very aware of the limited lifespan a standard CA may have with what I'm trying to do with it. This is not the engine that will be in it come July
One thing though, a lot of the cars you've mentioned aren't even finished, so can't understand how they can rate higher on performance or reliability "at the moment"
It's cool though, cheers for replying. I like a challenge and so does the car apparently
And as of now, this season, I'm second to 800bhp on the 1/4 after one attempt and now have up to 110bhp more than him on tap.:
I may have a little more power than you think, my boost controller was broken at the rolling road day so I was only running 1bar actuator  You may have missed that as you were still in bed

No we don't, I'm going to beat you ;)
I'm not counting on keeing my place at the moment, will be making some more changes soon ......Anyway, the way I see it is if we can get into the 11's then we will make the team :D

Lol, yeah good idea. The extra 0.6 bar / 9 psi (~80bhp according to the graphs) I have on tap may also help beat the 13.4 I managed on low boost :)
30kg lighter too without passenger seat & additional weight removal.

same here hope it goes well for every one, mines starting to move a little now and so hope to have lots of seat time and will get upto york for a RWYB day to see what it can do i would hope for low 12's as a min if i can get off the line but its built to handle not to drag race.

This thread is quiet compared to previous years, how are everyone's builds coming along?
Not done any 1/4 mile runs for aaaaages due to the weather, but the car is still as reliable as ever ;)
York RWYB on 13th, Pro-Street starts at Shakespeare 19th & 20th
Yes my preparation is going well, currently consists of,
Turn up at drag strip :)
Wait till they dry it out :(
Get a run or 2 on a cold slippy slidey surface
Wait while it rains again :annoyed:
Go home
Repeat as many time as possible :(:(
Car stll not ready with me but should be up and running by end of April, ready to set some times:)
i ran mine in ta this weekend :D but lots of new mods coming over the next 3-4weeks
I'm going to put my hand up for this now. Seeing as it doesn't clash now, my new engine should be up to the job and shifting on the dog box should see me get some decent drag times... just need to get some drag practice now
Yay convinced you into it :)
Everyone who competed last year should now have their DVD - if not please give me a shout.
Good luck to the chunk of the tream competing in the HKS drag series this weekend, looking forward to seeing the times :)

800bhp

We have 8 places remember guys, and I'll be picking the team on chance of scoring points :)
Last year we had 2 3rd places, Tone in top speed and myself in handling. The team selection this year is looking hard work with so many good cars, which is great for the club
Still hoping to be ready BUT, made a big fook up.
Not sure how many times I'm going to get to set but its safe to say I wont be setting any at the pro street drag series this month

OK guys, with 2 months to go I'll try and post my thoughts, then you can all see what needs to be done to make the team. I'm trying to be honest and no offend anyone, please dont take any comments to heart.
I'll point out this is not final, and feel free to point out something I have missed, or if you feel my thoughts aren't quite right.
I think we have 2 drivers for the Drag/Top Speed that are basically picked, they would have to unpick themselves at this stage.
1) BigTone (low 11's, capable of 10's)
2) 800bhp (12's)
Stuee69 just needs to contact me, or answer the phone when I remember to phone him ... with 11's he can easily make the team.
Noz hasnt got into the 12's, but can, but as you can see the bar is high.
Bling hasnt posted any 1/4's but has impressive power.
Kens car isn't finished.
FigJam is unproven at this moment and looking doubtful it would seem
Damo also has reliability issues but has a good chance of overcoming them
Yak has been fastest SXOCer at Time Attack all year, but should go drag racing for some experiance.
Nismo Pete hasn't been drag racing this year, and is behind Yak.
Madda is not looking to be ready.
Myself, I've still not been to the strip, and haven't been outstanding at TA, but have proven ability on airfeild handling circuits.
I think we'll take a team of 6, if it was picked now it would be.
BigTone
800bhp
Yak
SM
Noz
Bling
In that order.
Stuee could easily bump in 3rd in that list, Noz and Bling still have time to show there proper potential. Damo and Pete still have time to make the list.
Upcoming chances to hit the strip in June before the team is picked. (not including 14/15th where some are racing and some are at SXOC weekender).
Sat 7th "RWYB" Run What Ya Brung - Public Track Day @ Santa Pod. Vauxhall cars only, 2pm - 8pm.

well, at the mo the only chance im gonna have of proving my self is at the big weekender maybe ? (if i can knock a few DB's of my exhaust) and im gonna have to go to the pod on the 21st to try and get some times......anyone wanna lend me some drag radials!! :wack:

He's re-building his engine at the mo (almost done actually:eek:!) as there was a small issue of a cracked ring-land on no.6:smash: but its not done any damage....just a new piston needed!

might make this yet
who has a surface grinder and some know how to grind my shims in then?:D
Yeah, saw that, but Santa Pod is "round the corner" from Prescott hill :wack:
my reliability issues should be all sorted by the end of tomorrow with a bit of luck will let you know
Have we still got 8 spaces allocated???
Where´s brens monster :)
Will Jez be ready... isn´t the engine running now
6 ....
Unfinished
He has counted himself out
just confirmed with my mates i will be there so if anyone needs a hand i'll be hanging about !
im pulling my name from this due to bad luck and we have just put the 3rd rebuilt engine in with in 300miles
I've been under pressure to name at least some of the team by TOTB.
So ..... from the 6 places we have ...
1) BigTone - no suprises there
2) 800bhp - 12.5 already this year with only 320bhp
3) SM - see if I can match last years podium
4) Yak - see if he can beat me
5) ?
6) ?
So Bling, Noz, Squares, Pete, Ken and any last minute people throwing your hat into the ring .... you have just a few weeks to state your case and prove your point.
Noz - You need to be well into the 12's mate, the official qualifing time for drag specials is 12.5 or FASTER
Bling - You just need to prove your car
Pete - you should try and get some 1/4 slips
Squares - your car is reliable, that counts for a lot in my book, a 1/4 slip or footage from Prescott if you were there would help your case.
Ken - How far off is your V8?
Anyone else?
If anyone knows Stuee - kick him up the arse to join the club
Car is not far off now but wont be able to compete, I'm away on holiday, for the first time in 6 years the wife changed the dates we go away from first two weeks of July to the second two, sorry Kev, deffo next year and it should be supercharged by then:nod:
im so gutted i cant come forward.... stick me on the if some one dont make it there list as i will be there on the day anyway and in the 200sx if it dont die on the rollers on the 3rd and the next TA round before totb. engine seams good 600+miles now but i need to give it a few oil changes and stick the new inlet cam in after my fudge up :wack:
bling cars in bits at min. blown turbo not sure when it will be back on the road i know apt now have the turbo and he is after some mapping time with apt too
... after some mapping time with apt too
I think Dan has robbed my (4th of the year) mapping slot just vacated with my engine issues .....
I'll have to rebook with the next round of changes that I still have to make.
yeah, i new bling was after your slot but did not know he had got it.
Well I wont be ready next Monday ... It'll be touch and go for Oulton....

Hi SM,
Car is still running great and I am available for those dates.
I have pulled over 150mph on GPS, so would think I would be able to run that on the day.
1/4 mile? No idea I am afraid, perhaps I should have worked a RWYB into the equation, but I am afraid I haven't. I would be dissapointed if the car was not into the 12's.
Handling circuit, this is where I would hope to be able to do the club proud. I have been working hard on the car setup and have been having driver tuition which has helped hugely. I recently recived the "fatest driver of the day" award at Millbrook proving ground in a Caterham, and I later found out that it was the fastest time any GTROC member had recorded in the same car and on the same track.
I hope that helps,
Cheers,
It does help, thanks Squares
I'd be suprised if you could do a 12 without any practise on the drag strip to be honest, if you can do a RWYB in the next few weeks and prove me wrong that would be fantastic :) and would seal your place.
At the moment the 2 places left come down to you, Bling and Noz it seems, and with Bling being broken and Noz way from the 12.5 qualifing time for a drag specialist then you have to reckon your likely to make the team.
It does help, thanks Squares

How hard can that drag stuff be, its only a straight line.:wack: I will look to see if there is any RWYB stuff going on.
I will get some preparation going then, perhaps I can give you a call this evening mate?
